These are the candidates

Polls will open at the Wake Forest precincts at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, and close at 7:30 p.m. You can see a sample ballot and find your precinct – with directions – by going to http://www.wakegov.com/elections/Pages/default.aspx.

You can cast three votes – one for a mayor and two for the list of five candidates. Wake Forest elections for commissioners and mayor are nonpartisan and there are no voting districts. Also, you do not have to show ID to vote; just recite your address and sign your name.

The candidates for mayor are Vivian Jones (incumbent) and Jim Thompson (a first-term commissioner). The candidates for the two open seats on the town board are Ned Jones, Thad Jusczcak, Liz Simpers, John Van Ness and Bridget Wall-Lennon. Commissioner Margaret Stinnett chose not to seek another term and Thompson is running for mayor.

The Gazette has published interviews with the candidates each week since Sept. 27 and you can read them in the archives. You can also watch the local candidates’ forum sponsored by the Wake Forest Area Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Wake Forest as it airs twice daily, at noon and 6 p.m., on Channel 10. You can also view the forum in real-time streaming video at www.wakeforestnc.gov/wftv-10.aspx or on demand at www.wakeforestnc.gov/2018-mayoral-board-of-commissioners-candidates-forum.aspx.

Rather than trying to paraphrase the comments of the candidates, the editor urges you to look back through the Gazette archives to read their answers and to watch the forum if you were not present or have not done so yet.

You can also ask them questions directly by calling or emailing them. The addresses and numbers are:

  1. The Board race is a best 2 out of 3. Jones and Vannes have no chance, although admirable of them to put their names in the ring.

Thad, Simpers, and Wall-Lennon will all be within 10 percentage points of each other in a very tight race.

Jim Thompson will carry 60% of the Mayoral votes.

    1. Sorry, Jim. I have corrected it. Having to type with one hand and one finger is the cause but I should have caught that.
