The festival and event season is upon us

Every spring it is just not the dogwoods and the redbuds blooming. The town of Wake Forest blossoms forth with festivals and events on every weekend.

This weekend begins Friday, April 22, with the Wake Forest Police Department’s “Your Way for Inclusion” campaign to raise funds for the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics in which they are partnering with the two Wake Forest Burger Kings. Officers will be at 12301 Capital Boulevard and at 923 Gateway Commons Circle from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. to take your donations.

A little later that Friday the Wake Forest Fire Department’s Drive-By Fish Fry begins at 11 a.m. and ends at 7 p.m. or whenever the food runs out. It is too late to pre-order but you might be able to get a plate or two if you are in line at 11 a.m. at Station #1 on Elm Avenue.

Then Saturday, April 23, the newest festival, Forest Fest, will offer an array of family-friendly activities from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., including the Wake Forest Guild of Artists Spring Art Market on Brooks Street, extended hours for the Wake Forest Farmers Market (8 a.m. to 2 p.m.) on South Taylor Street, free Historic Downtown Walking Tours led by staff of the Wake Forest Historical Museum, and the town’s Urban Forestry Board will host the annual Arbor Day Tree Seedling Giveaway in the town hall parking lot. Over 3,000 ginkgo, persimmon, oak and sweetgum seedlings will be distributed.

Sunday, April 24, is the opening concert for the 2022 season of Six Sundays in Spring, which began on the lawn at the Wake Forest Historical Museum on North Main Street and proved so popular it had to be moved to Joyner Park as soon as the park was completed.

Marcus Anderson, a local favorite, will be on the stage Sunday evening beginning at 5:30 and ending at 7:30 p.m.

Readers can see all the details for the weekend’s activities in the longer articles in this issue of the Gazette.
