The American Cancer Society is recruiting teams from businesses, schools, families, places of worship, neighborhoods and more to participate in Relay For Life, coming up May 16 at Heritage High School.

Relay For Life is a community-based event where teams members set up campsites and take turns walking in honor of those who’ve battled cancer. Each team has at least one participant on the track at all times, and cancer survivors and caregivers take a celebratory first lap. Four million people participated in more than 6,000 events worldwide in 2014.
“Relay unites communities across the globe to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action to finish the fight once and for all,” Coward said. “Many participants are our family, friends and neighbors who have faced cancer themselves. Each new team that registers brings us one step closer to saving more lives.”
The upcoming Relay events are:
April High School Challenge — team raising most money in the month wins a free hot dog lunch served at Relay;
Thursday, April 9 —Relay team meeting 6:30 p.m. at The Factory (upstairs in the Mill Room), S. Main St., Wake Forest
Sunday, April 12 — Dine For A Cure at Texas Roadhouse, 11140 Capital Blvd., Wake Forest, 11 a.m.-10 p.m.; the restaurant donates 10 percent of proceeds to Relay (email skuhns@wcpss.net to receive the required flier)
Thursday, April 23 —Relay team meeting 6:30 p.m. at The Factory (upstairs in the Mill Room), Wake Forest
Saturday, April 25 — second annual Marga-Relay-ville 5k race through downtown Wake Forest; 8:30 a.m.; for details, call 919-522-3695.
