A tea party with gardening

Join the Mad Hatters of the Wake Forest Garden Club for a Tea Party, Gardening Seminars, an Art Market and Classic Car Show.

On Saturday May 14, 2016 the Wake Forest Garden Club will host its annual Mad Hatters Tea Party and Art Market at the Wake Forest Historical Museum at 414 North Main Street in Wake Forest. The event will include the Mad Hatters Tea from 11 to 2 and the Art Market and Classic Car Show from 10 to 4.  Two Garden Seminars are a bonus with your ticket to the Tea Party!

The Mad Hatters Tea will include a traditionally plated afternoon tea with the option to stay for seminars. Our first seminar speaker will be Christina Harvey from the Audubon Society. Christina will speak at 10 a.m. on the subject of bird friendly gardening. Helen Yoest, garden journalist and stylist, will then speak to us at 11:15 about gardening with North Carolina native plants. Helen will have her most recent published book, Good Berry, Bad Berry, available for sale.

Tickets to the tea and seminars are $15 and are available for purchase at the Cotton Company and the Wake Forest Area Chamber of Commerce through the day of the event. Tickets will also be available the day of the event at the Wake Forest Historical Museum, as long as tickets last.

Additional Mad Hatters festivities are open to the public at no charge on the museum lawn. Shop the Art Market and enjoy the pleasure of finding that unique gift for someone special or your own collection of original arts and crafts. Browse through pottery, paintings, jewelry, candles and fabric arts. Locally grown plants will be available for purchase with expert advice on how and where to plant and care for them for maximum success. You are sure to find something wonderful.

The car show will feature classic cars owned by local car aficionados who are always ready to talk about their treasures. Drop by the museum lawn free of charge to see these fabulous vehicles.

A special addition this year will be music performed by an ensemble from the Raleigh Symphony Orchestra.

Proceeds from the Mad Hatters festivities will benefit the Wake Forest Historical Museum gardens along with other projects supported by the Wake Forest Garden Club including Arbor Day, Dirt Day and Wake Forest Garden Club Flower Cart, which creates small floral arrangements each week for nursing home residents, shut-ins and others needing a little cheer in their day.
