Strawberry Day at the market

Start your visit to the Wake Forest Farmers Market Saturday by stopping by Market Manager Robin Hendricks’ booth to sample some of the sweet strawberries that are on sale this Saturday, and remember to get a raffle ticket for a market basket full of items from the farmers, bakers and crafters at the market plus gift cards from Farm Table Restaurant & Bar, B&W Hardware Store and a gift bag from Wake Forest Downtown.

The market will be open from 8 a.m. to noon in front of the Renaissance Centre in Renaissance Plaza on Brooks Street. Hendricks supplies a tent for children to play and make art, and the music will be by Dry Bread Road.

Make sure you check out the new vendors such as Heritage Seafood with shrimp, scallops, crab and fish depending on what is in season at Wrightsville Beach, Hampstead and Beaufort, the fresh doggie treats from Madison & Goliath, Little River Gardens with seasonal fruit, vegetables, flowers, mushrooms and eggs, and Rolling Fog Farm with its seedlings (tomatoes, herbs, veggies and flowers) and egg.

So many of the old favorites are back or never quit even during winter’s bitter Saturdays. Ronnie Brogden has a new sign: Deborah’s Farm Fresh Vegetables, but he has the same old patter. Bailey Newton and Phyllis at Triple B Farm still offer a wide variety of pasture-raised meats along with sausage and eggs. Bob and Ginger bring pasture-raised lamb, pork, beef along with turkey, duck, quail and chicken from their Turtle Mist Farm as well as seasonal vegetable and fruit. Stop and get some Wood Leaf Honey as well as beeswax candles. The Flour Garden offers baked goods ranging from empanadas to breads and rolls. Need eggs, try Heritage Farm Eggs. Gabie’s Garden Vegetables include greens, tomato and other plants, garlic, and hanging baskets.
