Start planning for the Fourth

Yep, we are in the middle of the winter holidays, but it takes a lot of time and work to arrange a two-day, multi-event celebration that brings thousands of people to town. That is why the all-volunteer Fourth of July Celebration Committee will hold an informational meeting next Wednesday, Dec. 2, at 6 p.m. in The Forks Cafeteria on Brooks Street and invites everyone interested in helping or joining them to attend.

“This year’s 42nd annual Wake Forest Fourth of July was a successful celebration attended by approximately 5,000 people for the fireworks on July 3 and 3,000 people for the children’s parade and games on July 4,” Scott Yates, a committee member, wrote in announcing the meeting. “The all-volunteer Fourth of July Celebration Committee organizes the Celebration to honor our country and community. The celebration for our neighbors and families is funded by gate receipts from the previous year’s celebration, along with contributions of area businesses and the Town of Wake Forest.”
