If it is March, the spring has to be here – and officially on the calendar it arrives tomorrow, March 20. But on March 17 and March 18, Monday and Tuesday it was ice on every branch and icy drizzle after wonderful sunshine on Friday and Saturday.
This is definitely more than the usual North Carolina variety weather. It has to have even the most optimistic of the Wake Forest Farmers Market gardeners gnashing their teeth and screaming in frustration.
However, on Saturday, March 22, you can be sure that there will be a lot of meat and eggs and maybe even a bit of something green. Maybe the best bet is a knitted scarf or hat to wear while you shop for the local honey, the locally roasted coffee, the goodies baked by people you know, handmade jewelry and soap, cheese made over near Durham and wood crafts.
In the next couple weeks we will learn about the spring and summer vendors. Many shoppers want Locals Seafood to return as well as the flower farm and all the vegetable gardeners. But spring will come. It has to.
