Six Sundays begins April 26

From jazz and big band swing to reggae and folk pop, there’s something for all music lovers at this year’s Six Sundays in Spring concert series. Sponsored by Wake Forest ARTS, the performances get underway Sunday, April 26, at 5 p.m. with Raleigh band MikeMickXer.

Sunday’s performance is part of Wake Forest ARTS’ annual spring concert series featuring free, live, outdoor entertainment. Scheduled on consecutive Sundays through May 31, Six Sundays in Spring offers area residents an opportunity to enjoy a variety of local and regional performers and an enriching cultural experience.

All concerts are scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. in the E. Carroll Joyner Park Amphitheater on Harris Road. Food and refreshments will be available for purchase, but concert goers may also bring a picnic. Alcoholic beverages, along with gas and charcoal grills are not allowed. Park visitors are reminded that firearms and unleashed pets are also prohibited.

Other acts scheduled to perform during this year’s concert series include Capital Transit on May 3; Casablanca Orchestra on May 10; Liverpool: Carolina’s Beatles Experience on May 17; Jeanne Holly on May 24; and Gravy Boys on May 31. New this year to Six Sundays in Spring is the “Wake Forest Has Talent!” competition. At intermission during the first five concerts, competition finalists will take the stage and perform. Audience members can vote for their favorite contestants at www.crowdrise.com/wakeforestarts.  The finalists range in age from 8 to adult, and include vocalists, rock bands, pianists, country singers and more.

Android and iPhone users can have a handy pocket guide to Six Sundays in Spring in the palm of their hands by downloading the Town of Wake Forest app and utilizing the app’s “Six Sundays in Spring” function. Designed to offer smart phone users instant access to important details about this year’s concert series, the function includes the complete 2015 concert schedule, information about Joyner Park, weather information and more.

IPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, and Android users can download the free app by searching for “Town of Wake Forest” on iTunes, in the iPhone app store, or in Google Play or by scanning the appropriate QR code provided at www.wakeforestnc.gov/app.aspx.

In the event of inclement weather, this year’s concerts may be relocated to the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre, 405 South Brooks Street. Updated concert information will be available by 3 p.m. on the day of the concert on Wake Forest TV 10 and the town’s Facebook page and by calling the Wake Forest Weather Line at 919-435-9569. Smart phone users who have downloaded the town’s app will receive a push notification message informing them of any schedule changes.
