Silent art auction during Art After Hours

The Friends of the Wake Forest Library and Beth Massey, owner of Wake Forest Art & Frame Shop, will provide a different experience this Friday during the monthly Art After Hours – a silent auction of donated art.

Between 5 and 8:30 Friday night visitors can check out the art work and bid on it. The winning bids will be determined at 8:30 and the winners can pick up their new treasure at that time. Payment must be either cash or check.

The money from the silent auction will be used to help the Wake Forest library. The nonprofit Friends have most recently donated a large-screen TV with an Apple computer to illustrate the books and stories during children’s programs, staff and volunteer workstations and adult work tables and chairs. The group also sponsors programs at the library and celebrations such as the library’s birthday.

Just down the street in Mary Benejam’s Artists’ Nook at Mimosa, she is featuring Vicky Lynne Stroedecke, who paints in transparent acrylic on prepared cotton canvas and sews it into a functional piece such as a dress-up sling sack or a refined clutch with strap. “The combination of skills and experience makes her work unique. A U.S. Army veteran and a Meredith College graduate, she has also been a commercial interior designer and architectural CAD drafter. Her current work features pieces inspired by vintage photography and collectables, and she lives and works with her husband in Youngsville.

The seven resident artists at the Sunflower Studio & Gallery will welcome two artists, LuAnne Payne and T. Angelique. Payne is known for her pastel and collage works with their blend of whimsy and nostalgia, and Angelique uses her art as youth outreach and will show works in acrylics and oils.

Upstairs over the Wake Forest Coffee Company you will find the Artist Loft and Gallery, where the resident artists will welcome photographer Mary Katherine Powers and her black and white photos of Wake Forest. See your hometown in a different way.

You can also join the community painting of a dog and cat that will be auctioned later to provide funds for a rescue group.

The Lang Sisters, Chloe and Jessie, will be singing at Next Consignment Boutique, and owner Pam Jay says they are already well known and recognized as Tomorrow’s Bluegrass Stars. They only began playing guitar in 2011, but now part of several bluegrass organizations in their native Chatham County while performing at festivals, fiddlers’ conventions, weddings, arts ;programs, nursing homes, fund-raisers and Christian outreach events.

Barbara Blaisdell will be the featured artist this month at The Cotton Company, showing her photographs from her travels around the world and focusing on the countries of Iceland and Namibia. Now a Wake Forest resident, Blaisdell has a booth at The Cotton Company. Friday night she will talk about her photography during the reception with light refreshments from 6 to 9 p.m.

Top off your evening of walking, buying, looking and talking with friends with dinner at one of the downtown restaurants.

Stacey at The Lemon Tree is offering a four-course dinner with autumnal flavors. Check out the offerings from soup to dessert and make reservations at Stacey@thelemontreewf.com or 919-521-5806.
