Shorty’s featured Friday night

The only Wake Forest business that is 100 years old is the former campus favorite, Shorty’s Famous Hot Dogs. Still family owned, it no longer features the two barber chairs or four pool tables that used to draw the college students, but it is still going strong on South White Street, and it will be honored during Friday Night on White on June 10 by Mayor Vivian Jones and Wake Forest town commissioners when the band, The Will McBride Group, takes a break. There will be a raffle, lots of good reminiscing and, of course, hot dogs.

Presented by White Street Brewing Co., Friday Night on White takes place along South White Street from 6-9 p.m. on the second Friday night of each month from April through September.

Food and refreshments will be available for purchase at several downtown restaurants. A variety of food and dessert trucks will also be on site in the parking lot of Fidelity Bank, 231 S. White St., and along Owen Avenue, including Arepa Culture NC, Charlie’s Kabob Grill on Wheels, Virgil’s Jamaica, Cockadoodlemoo, Bulkogi, Sarge’s Chef on Wheels, Kona Ice, Lumpy’s Ice Cream, and Sweet Stacey Cakes.

Other bands scheduled to perform during Friday Night on White include The Stone Age Romeos on July 8, The Remedy on Aug. 12, and Crush on Sept. 9.
