Several advisory board seats open

All of Wake Forest’s 13 advisory boards will have openings this fall as current members’ terms of office end. You can make a difference in our community by applying for one of the many upcoming vacancies on the town’s advisory boards. The boards were established to give citizens input into what happens in the community and to advise the Board of Commissioners on matters that affect citizens and their town government.

Applications are being accepted through Wednesday, Oct. 21, for appointments to the following boards and commissions:

  • Board of Adjustment
  • Cemetery
  • Cultural Resources
  • Design Review
  • Greenway
  • Historic Preservation
  • Human Relations Council
  • Planning
  • Public Art
  • Recreation
  • Senior Center
  • Technology
  • Urban Forestry

Only residents who live in Wake Forest or within its extra-territorial jurisdiction (ETJ) are eligible to fill seats on the Planning Board and Board of Adjustment. Candidates for the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) must reside in the Historic District, in Wake Forest, or within its ETJ. Professionals with historic preservation expertise are especially encouraged to apply for the HPC.

Applications are available on the town’s website at www.wakeforestnc.gov/advisory-boards.aspx and in the town clerk’s office at town hall. Please note the Historic Preservation Commission and the Public Art Commission have their own applications.

Applications may be completed and submitted online. Completed applications may also be mailed or delivered to the Wake Forest Town Hall, Attention: Town Clerk, 301 S. Brooks St., Wake Forest, NC 27587, or faxed to 919-435-9419 but must be received no later than 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21.

Candidates will be expected to attend an upcoming meeting of the advisory board to which they applied in order to introduce themselves to the board’s current members and explain why they wish to serve. To view each advisory board’s interview schedule, visit www.wakeforestnc.gov/advisory-boards.aspx and click on “2015 Advisory Board Interview Schedule.”

Candidates for the Board of Adjustment, Design Review and Planning Board will be introduced to the Board of Commissioners during the board’s work session on Tuesday, Dec.1, at 5:30 p.m.

Following the interviews, each advisory board will review its slate of candidates before submitting their recommendations to the Board of Commissioners. The board will announce the advisory board appointments during its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 15. New terms will commence in January 2016.

Selected applicants will volunteer for three-year terms, except where unexpired terms are being filled, and advise the board on a variety of topics relating to the Wake Forest community.
