Although many of the programs and services offered by the Northern Wake Senior Center have been distributed all over Wake Forest in preparation for the expansion construction to the building, the center is still open as is the center’s office. Both are still at 235 East Holding Avenue.
Miranda Strider-Allen’s latest update says, “The new expansion date has been moved to January 2018. Our senior center office and staff will be moving to The Lodge later this year.
“The Body Shop, computer lab, SHIIP counseling, ceramics, meeting groups and some Wake Tech classes are still being held at the center.” There are details and schedules in the written update.
A very special event will be held from on Thursday, Nov. 2, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Renaissance Centre – a party celebrating the senior center anniversary and a veterans’ celebration, Giving Thanks. There will be fun, food and entertainment. Also, the Ladies of Valor of Wake Forest will present quilts to veterans and there will be a veteran pinnng and certificate ceremony. You must sign up to receive a pin and certificate. They arefor all veterans and spouses of deceased veterans. The Giving Thanks letter-writing campaign will also be held at this event. These are thank-you letters to congressional representatives for funding the Older Americans Act.
The Northern Wake Senior Center at 235 East Holding Avenue is owned by the Town of Wake Forest with programming and staffing provide by Resources for Seniors. Most programs are free for all.
