Senior center this week

During the first week of April, the special events include the Wake County Senior Games Silver Follies, a potpourri of music, dance, comedy and more held at the Garner Performing Arts Center on Wednesday, April 6, at 4 p.m. Check with the front desk about carpooling and transportation. The Northern Wake Carolina Steppers Line Dancers will perform along with the Steptacular Tappers and shaggers Garylor and Toni.

Lauren and Drew Bridges, local writers and story tellers, will be at the center Tuesday, April 12, at11:30 a.m. to help you learn to tell a good story.

Wednesday, April 13, is the last day to have your taxes done at the center, but you must call for an appointment.

On Tuesday, April 19, staff from the Wake County Board of Elections will offer Election 101 from 10 to 11 a.m. How do jurisdictions work? What services are available to assist voters? Get a preview of this year’s Presidential Election. Correct forms will be available if you need to register to vote, change your address, or request an absentee ballot. Get involved! Get information on how to become a precinct official for Election Day or at an Early Voting Site and get paid to do it! This is open to the public.

“Moving On – Learning to Live with the Loss of Your Spouse,” a four-week series offered at 12:30 p.m. on Fridays during April is offered by Heartland Hospice. A snack lunch will be provided. To join, sign up by Wednesday, April 6.

Remember there is free tax aid provided by volunteers with the local chapter of AARP through April 13. It is available Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. but you must sign up for an appointment.

The Wednesday Zumba class is being held at the Flaherty Community Center during March and April.

There is a full schedule of events, classes, support groups and other offerings every day at the center as well as Bingo, blood pressure checks and exercise classes.

The Northern Wake Senior Center at 235 East Holding Avenue is owned by the Town of Wake Forest with programming and staffing provide by Resources for Seniors. Most programs are free for all.
