The Wake Forest Public Art Commission will host a special reception in the Arts Annex of the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre Saturday, July 27, from 9 a.m. to noon to formally open its 2019 Wake Forest Temporary Sculpture Exhibit and its Spotlight on Wake Forest Artists Exhibit. Light refreshments will be provided.
The reception will have an informal, open house-style format, so you may drop in anytime between 9 a.m. and noon. A program featuring remarks by Mayor Vivian Jones will begin at 10 a.m. Public Art Commission members and several featured artists will be on hand throughout the morning to answer questions and share information about the selected works of art.
Free, illustrated maps highlighting the locations of the works for each exhibit will be available during the reception. Area residents who are unable to attend the reception but wish to take the self-guided tour may also pick up a brochure at the Renaissance Centre and Wake Forest Town Hall.
Spotlight on Wake Forest Artists
Wake Forest Guild of Artists and artists residing in Wake Forest were invited to submit one piece of original art to the Spotlight on Wake Forest Artists Contest. An Artist Selection Committee comprised of arts professionals and representatives of the Town of Wake Forest, the public art commission and Wake Forest Downtown, along with professional artists who do not reside within Wake Forest selected the following works (the display location for each work is shown in parenthesis):

Each of the selected art works will be scanned into an electronic image and reproduced in brick vinyl. The vinyl will be applied to the facade of the designated Wake Forest buildings. A plaque with information about the artist will be located near the art panel.
Each artist will receive a $100 stipend and their artwork will remain on display for one year.
Wake Forest Temporary Sculpture Exhibit
The Wake Forest Temporary Sculpture Exhibit features six three-dimensional sculptural works of art by a variety of artists in publicly-accessible outdoor spaces throughout Wake Forest, including the Wake Forest Town Hall campus, the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre, Miller Park, Smith Creek Soccer Center and the Depot Parking Lot.
Experienced artists and artist teams across North Carolina and beyond were invited to apply. An Artist Selection Committee comprised of arts professionals and representatives of the Town of Wake Forest, the PAC and Wake Forest Downtown selected the following works for the show (the display location for each sculpture is shown in parenthesis):

Selections were based on artistic excellence and the goal of exhibiting a variety of styles and media in appropriate sites. Each artist will receive a $2,000 stipend.
