Rogers Road rezoning request withdrawn

On Tuesday night, August 15, 2023, Mayor Vivian Jones was absent from her usual chair because she was representing the town at a conference.
It was expected that a public hearing about the requested rezoning of 27 acres on Rogers Road for 148 townhouses would bring out a sizable number of town residents to object. And then there could be a lengthy discussion by the town commissioners.
But before the meeting and in time for the agenda to be amended and possible speakers to learn of it, M & M Co., LLC, the owners, withdrew the request.
That led to a 15-minute meeting during which Mayor pro tem Jim Dyer led the other commissioners in a prayer, Commissioner Chad Sary read a proclamation about the dangers elderly people experience if they fall, Jennie Griggs, the director of the Northern Wake and Wendell senior centers, responded but did not speak into the microphone and thus was unheard except for those in the room and the commissioners voted four to zero to approve the consent agenda.
