The Wake Forest Police Department conducted a DWI checkpoint in the area of the 200 block of the Dr. Calvin Jones Highway/NC 98 Bypass from 11 p.m. Friday, April 24, until 2 a.m. Saturday, April 25.

Officers from the Holly Springs Police Department, Apex Police Department, Cary Police Department, Morrisville Police Department, Zebulon Police Department, Rolesville Police Department, Raleigh Police Department and Wake County Sheriff’s Office participated in the operation. A BATmobile (mobile alcohol testing station) was provided by the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services’ Forensic Alcohol Branch, and a Wake County magistrate was at the site to facilitate processing of those arrested. Representatives from Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and Citizens Assisting Police (CAP) were also in attendance.

Charges during the operation included six DWI arrests, four other alcohol violations, seven misdemeanor drug charges, and 12 non-alcohol traffic violations.

The operation was part of the Governor’s Highway Safety Program Multi-Agency task force aimed at reducing impaired driving through enforcement efforts and public awareness.

In addition to the DWI enforcement work performed at the checking station, Wake Forest police officers will continue their efforts to identify and arrest impaired drivers while on patrol throughout the town.
