There will be two community ceremonies on Friday, Nov. 11, to honor all America’s veterans, the first at 11 a.m. at the Wake Forest Veterans Memorial and the second a sunset ceremony in front of the Wake Forest Town Hall.
The Walter E. Cole American Legion Post 187 will celebrate Veterans’ Day with a community ceremony at the Wake Forest Veterans Memorial located on the grounds of the Heritage Golf Club at 11 a.m. Friday November 11, 2016. As our nation honors the over 23 million living veterans from the Greatest Generation to the Latest Generation, let us never forget this debt that is owed. No government commission or single dollar amount can adequately re-pay what has been given to all of us throughout our nation’s history through their blood, service and sacrifice.
The formal ceremony has set aside a moment to honor those veterans commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War. Vietnam era veterans will be provided with a commemorative pin designed by the Department of Defense to distinguish their faithful service to the nation. Please join the Wake Forest community and the other veterans as we pay tribute to these gallant and brave warriors.
The Wake Forest community is also invited to gather in Centennial Plaza in front of the Wake Forest Town Hall Friday, Nov. 11, for a Veterans Day Sunset Ceremony to honor all America’s veterans. The ceremony will be held from 5 to 5:30 p.m.
The Colors will be posted by the Wake Forest High School Army JROTC Color Guard, a guest speaker will talk about flag etiquette, and participants of the “Why Veterans are Special” writing contest will read their essays.
