Quick! Get a free rollout yard waste cart

The Town of Wake Forest is offering residents a unique opportunity to request and receive a free rollout yard waste cart – while they last.

The Town has in surplus approximately 100 48-gallon rollout carts formerly used for recycling. Now that all single-family households receive a complimentary 96-gallon rollout recycling cart, the Town is making a limited number of 48-gallon carts available to residents upon request.

Anyone wishing to secure one of these surplus carts marked with YARD WASTE on the side must complete and submit the online request form available on the Town’s website at www.wakeforestnc.gov/public-works<http://www.wakeforestnc.gov/public-works>.  Please note: There is a limit of one cart per household.

Area residents without internet access may request a yard waste cart by calling 919-435-9570. Anyone who calls after hours may leave a voicemail message. Voicemail requests must include the resident’s name, physical address and telephone number.

As a bonus, the Public Works Department will attempt to deliver at least 10 requested carts per day, Monday-Friday, until all have been distributed.

After receiving a cart, residents can place brush, leaves, limbs, mulch, flower trimmings and grass inside the receptacle and place it behind the curb on their normal yard waste collection date. Do not place dirt, plastic or trash inside the cart.

Again, these carts are available one-time only – while they last. For more information, call 919-435-9570.

  1. Since the response was so remarkably fast. I wonder whether the Town Mothers and Fathers (the Commissioners) will recognize there is an unfilled demand for yard waste receptacles that the Town should address. The Town wants “loose” yard waste (like raked-up grass-clippings, etc) bagged or canned, before they will take them. A reusable, easily-emptied yard waste container provided by the Town is “greener” than plastic bags we must purchase.

Why not buy more, and at least offer them for sale to residents?

  2. this is the 1st time i have heard about this. i went to the wed site and it stated they were out within 15 minutes. it would have been nice to have known about this before hand,

    1. Well, Stanley, I absolutely agree. I saw the press release this afternoon as I was getting the Gazette ready so I put it in, thinking they were just starting. Wrong! I also learned the town hall is not going to be lit up blue for April but it certainly sounded like that if the town officials thought people could take pictures and post them on Facebook and the town site. Very misleading.
