There may be few families enjoying a turkey dinner on Thanksgiving Day unless donations pick up for the Wake Forest Police Department’s annual Turkey Drive. “It’s pretty slow so far. We have $575 donated to date,” Detective Michael W. Sattler said this week. “Any help would be great.”
The department accepts cash and checks through Saturday, Nov. 19, that they use to purchase turkeys. Checks should be written to the Wake Forest Police Department.
On that same day, Saturday, Nov. 19, officers will be on hand to accept frozen turkeys taken to the Wake Forest Police Department at 225 South Taylor Street from 9 a.m. to noon. They will distribute the turkeys on Monday, Nov. 21, from 2 to 11 a.m. at the Wake Forest Community House on West Owen Avenue.
Anyone wishing to contribute to this year’s Turkey Drive should contact Detective Sattler at 919-795-7270.
Detective Sattler organized the police department’s first Turkey Drive in 2007. Since then, the department has distributed nearly 5,000 turkeys to needy families in our area, including over 800 turkeys last year.
