Parks and rec recognized for quality children’s programming

The Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department has been awarded the Better Sports for Kids Quality Program Provider designation by the National Alliance for Youth Sports.

Earning the distinction demonstrates that the Wake Forest department has taken steps to ensure a safe, quality playing environment for children and proven it meets key requirements in five categories – Written Policies and Procedures, Volunteer Screening, Coach Training, Parent Education and Accountability.

“Kudos to Athletics Specialist KP Kilpatrick for leading the effort to obtain this designation,” said Director Ruben Wall. “It reinforces that we are providing youth sports programs of the highest standard.”

Wall also said the distinction helps the Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department programs stand out among a sea of athletics options.

“We recognize that parents have many choices when it comes to youth sports,” he said. “The Better Sports for Kids Quality Program Provider designation is another important way we can set ourselves apart and give parents in Wake Forest confidence in our programs. They can take comfort knowing their child is in the best place possible to learn and compete in sports.”

The National Alliance for Youth Sports, a 501(c)3 organization headquartered in West Palm Beach, Fla., administratively manages the designation which was developed around the National Standards for Youth Sports, a guiding resource originally published in 1987. Any organization can apply to be evaluated for the Better Sports for Kids Quality Program Provider designation, and no cost is involved.

The Wake Forest department’s designation is valid until Dec. 31, 2020.
