Order your holiday turkeys at the market

Fall is really here, and the vendors at the Wake Forest Farmers Market are ready to help you build your everyday and holiday meals with nutritious locally grown meats and vegetables.

The market is open now from 10 a.m. to noon in its visible and friendly new location in the Renaissance Plaza at the corner of Brooks Street and East Elm Avenue.

Now is the time to order your farm-raised turkey for Thanksgiving and Christmas. You can pick up the Thanksgiving turkey Tuesday, Nov. 25, when the market will have its Pre-Thanksgiving Afternoon Market from 3 to 5 p.m.

Along with turkey, market vendors offer grass-fed beef, chicken, pork, lamb, rabbit and goat meat. Last Saturday there were fresh and frozen whole chickens for sale.

Also last week vendors and shoppers were praising the food from the Cockadoodle Moo Food Truck, including the large sausage biscuits.

Another new vendor is Chris Farmer, who will be displaying and selling his pottery.

There are lots of winter greens like the beet greens with tiny beets, bok choy, chard, spinach, squash, sweet potatoes, black-eyed peas, radishes and mushrooms.

There are eggs for sale, some even marked with the date they were laid, baked goods both sweet and gluten-free, all the items you will need to decorate your home for the fall and Thanksgiving – corn stalks, hay bales, potted mums, and gourds – along with house plants, handmade jewelry, soaps, lotions, honey, hand-knit hats, scarves and gloves, and fresh-cut flowers and dried flower wreaths.

See the market on Facebook, take a look at all the vendors and their wares as well as special events at www.wakeforestfarmersmarket.org or call 919-671-9269 if you need information.
