Frances Grissom Floyd

Frances Grissom Floyd, 86, of Raleigh passed away Sunday afternoon, August 23, 2015, at Universal Health Care in Raleigh. She was born in Franklin County, the daughter of the late Iola Perry Grissom and Harvey Luther Grissom, and was a member of St. James United Methodist Church in Raleigh. Mrs. Floyd was a retired secretary with Ashland Chemical Company.
Funeral services were held at 11 o’clock Wednesday morning, August 26, 2015, at St. James United Methodist Church in Raleigh. A private burial will follow in the Popes Chapel Christian Church Cemetery in Franklinton.
Mrs. Floyd is survived by her daughter, Betsy Floyd Womble and husband, Phil, of Franklinton; sons, Rex Floyd and wife, Denise, and Andy Floyd and wife, Lisa, of Franklinton; a sister, Louise Bragg of Franklinton; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude E. Floyd Sr.

Patricia Faye Paris Perry
Wake Forest
Patricia Faye Paris Perry, 64, of Wake Forest died Monday morning, August 24, 2015, at her residence. She was born in Vance County, the daughter of the late Velma Truvene Ayscue Paris and Charles Patrick Paris. She was preceded in death by a sister, Eldena Pearl Spellman.
Funeral services will be held at 1 o’clock Thursday afternoon, August 27, 2015, at Beulah Christian Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronnie Sneed officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Patricia is survived by her husband, Donald Perry; daughters, Patricia Perry Godwin and husband Timothy of Raleigh, Truvene Elizabeth Perry of Wake Forest; step-son, Donald Perry Jr. and wife, Sheila, of Youngsville; sisters, Tonja Lee Paris of Youngsville and Donna Jean Overton of Orlando, Florida; a brother, Kevin Paris of Spring Hope; and a special cousin, Stephen Henley of Raleigh; and grandchildren, Zachary Godwin, Chance Michael, Ashlee, Katee and Kyle Perry.

Vira Alford Williams Smith
Rolesville
Vira Tart Alford Williams Smith, 88, of Rolesville passed away Saturday, August 22, 2015, at Hillside Nursing Center. She was born in Johnston County, the daughter of the late Anna and Thadeus Tart, and was a Christian wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Vira was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church for many years before becoming a member of Rolesville Baptist Church. She sang in the choir and taught Sunday School for over 60 years. During her working career, Vira farmed with her husband, worked at Burlington Industries and at Devil Dog. She was retired from the N.C. Department of Motor Vehicles and was a member of James B. White Chapter #199 O.E.S.
Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon, August 26, 2015, at Rolesville Baptist Church. Burial was in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Vira is survived by her daughter, Dolores A. Scarboro and husband, Glenn, of Rolesville; son, Wesley Hamilton Alford Jr. and wife, Diana, of Clearfield, Utah; step-daughter, Pam Maxey and husband, John, of Raleigh; grandsons, Scott Scarboro of Los Angeles, California, Brad Scarboro and wife, Kristyn, of Rolesville, and Wesley Hamilton Alford III, of Utah; step-grandchildren, Nick Larson and Kim Larson of Utah, and Mandy Poole of Knightdale; great-grandchildren, Kiani, Georgia, and Dallas; sisters, Ora Lee Barefoot of Benson, and Reba Phipps and husband, Stanley, of Charlotte; sisters-in-law, Bessie Tart of Benson, Gladys Hight of Franklinton, and Rachel Bradley and husband, Danny, of Spokane, Washington; brother-in-law, F.G. Alford and wife, Jo, of Princeton; many special nieces and nephews; and special family, Sandra Harrison, Tracy and Michele Goss, and Allie, Harrison, and Hunter.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Wesley H. Alford Sr. and Edward Williams; sisters, Lola Parker, Vada Marden, Ada Arhar, and Georgia Evans; and brothers, Nathan Tart, and Garland Tart.

Hilma May Studler Evans
Wake Forest
Hilma May Studler Evans, 96, of Wake Forest, formerly of Columbus, Ohio, and Yucaipa, California, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2015, at Carillon Assisted Living of Wake Forest.
Born in Geneva, Indiana, on May 2, 1919, Hilma was the daughter of Daniel August and Berneice Baker Studler. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of almost 60 years, Raymond F. Evans Sr., brother, Robert Wayne Studler; and sister, Fannie Elizabeth Golin.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond F. Jr. and Jane of Wake Forest and John and Cheryl of Redlands, California. She will always be “Grams” to: six grandchildren and their spouses, Brad (Margie), Mandy (Jason), Carrie (Rich), Tiffany (Matt), Stacey (Shawn) and Nichol (Scott); and 13 great-grandchildren Larissa, Jayde, Zachary, Jessie, Aidan, Austin, Olivia, Curry, Ava, Raegan, Lilly, Summer and Abbie; and one great-great grandchild, Benjamin.
After graduating from business school in Indianapolis and working briefly for the State of Indiana, World War II caused her to move to an office assignment at Ft. Hayes in Columbus, Ohio, where she met her future husband, a soldier at the time, and lived until 2000. During her time in Columbus she worked with the Columbus Public Schools mostly as a high school office administrator. After retiring in 1984, she and Ray Sr. spent the next 14 winters living at Cockroach Bay, Florida, enjoying the sunshine, the company of many friends and playing golf.
In addition to golf as a hobby, Hilma was a pianist able to play almost any popular tune by ear. Over the years she accompanied the Crestview Presbyterian Church Couples Club, the Harmonicats (a harmonica band), entertained attendees during intermission at drama performances at Riverside Community College in California and for family a most memorable evening she and granddaughter Tiffany literally took over the stage at a cruise ship night club to the delight of many passengers.
A beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many, she was also a Christian not only in attending church but also in her daily living. Her last words were, “I am going home,” which is where all of us that knew her know she is.
She would also want to thank all of the caregivers at the Carolina House, especially Cynthia, Carillon Assisted Living and Jane Evans, the “executive” caregiver who, during the last 10 years of her life, always made certain she was safe and comfortable.
A visitation for friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 27, at Bright Funeral Home with family having a graveside service in Delaware, Ohio, on September 26.

John William Cederna, D.D.S.
Raleigh
John W. Cederna of Raleigh passed away on August 19, 2015. Dr. Cederna was born on August 28, 1932, in Stambaugh, Michigan, the eldest son of the late John Anthony Cederna and Carrie Wierimaa Cederna.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 o’clock Saturday afternoon, August 29, 2015, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 520 West Holding Avenue Wake Forest.
Dr. Cederna graduated from Stambaugh High School in 1950 and went on to earn his D.D.S. degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 1956. He also served two years of active duty and seven years of active reserve as a Captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He opened a private dental practice in Owosso and later returned to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to establish a practice in Marquette. In 1975 he became a licensed Federal Aviation Pilot with a commercial and multi-engine rank. John served in multiple capacities both at St. Michael’s school board and church, also teaching religious education classes. He shared his love for hunting, fishing, and skiing with family and friends. John was also a third-degree member of The Knights of Columbus in Marquette. He and his wife just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary a month ago with family.
Dr. Cederna is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Cederna; daughters, Marie Ellingson and husband, Roger, of Portland, Oregon, Ann Cederna and husband, Douglas Frederick, of Potomac, Maryland, Joan Moss and husband, Steve, of Raleigh; sons, Dr. John P. Cederna of Cumberland, Maine, Tom Cederna and wife, Debbie, of Jackson, Michigan, Joe Cederna and wife, Mary Pat Lawlor, of Seattle, Washington, Dr. Paul S. Cederna and wife, Dr. Jean Cederna of Milan, Michigan; sisters, Corinne Laluzerne of Gurnee, Illinois, Coralie Johnson and husband, Jim, of Jackson, Michigan, Connie Piernick of Dearborn, Michigan; brothers, Jim Cederna of Iron River, Michigan, and North Venice, Florida, Jerry Cederna and wife, Joyce, of Iron River, Michigan; grandchildren, Allison, Hillary, Ian, Dr. Crystal Meko, Jessica, Kyra, Kaylen, Saoirse, Paige, Colin, Carrie, Carson, Allie; and ten great-grandchildren.

Colin Patrick McCullough, 29, of Raleigh passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2015.
A memorial service celebrating Colin’s life will be held at 1 o’clock Saturday afternoon, August 29, 2015, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 830 Durham Road, Wake Forest. Friends may visit with the family in the church Parish Hall following the service.
Colin is survived by his parents, Dan and Arline McCullough of Raleigh, and by his sister, Megan Beth McCullough of Raleigh.

Olin F. ‘Papa’ Morgan
1920-2015

Olin “Papa” Morgan of Wake Forest went home to be with the Lord on August 17, 2015, after a short battle with cancer.
On March 6, 1941, he wed Lois Gosnell and their marriage lasted 67 years until her passing in 2008. Their first home was in Langdale, Alabama. After graduating from Auburn University in 1954, he packed up his wife and two daughters and moved to Arlington, Virginia. Three years later the family moved to Clarksville, Maryland, where he continued his career with NSA as a computer analyst/programmer. After 25 years of service he retired and he and Lois relocated to Hendersonville. Some of their most enjoyable times were spent vacationing each winter in the Florida Keys with many friends.
Olin is survived by his two daughters, Sharon and her husband, Robert Brown, and Wanda and her husband, Bruce Ohle; five grandchildren, Carolyn and her husband, Glenn Rathje, Kathleen and her husband, Paul Coleman, Kevin Brown and his wife, Brooke, Todd Ohle and his wife, Clarice, and Brendan Bush. He is also survived by eight great grandchildren, Kaia and Lucia Ohle, Trevor and Dylan Rathje, Ryan and Logan Brown, and Camille and Julian Coleman.
