Nancy Jean Goethe, 56, of Wake Forest, passed away Tuesday evening, June 16, 2015, at Duke Raleigh Hospital. She was born on January 7, 1959, in Flint, Michigan. Nancy was a member of the Wake Forest Presbyterian Church and was passionate in her several years of service to the family members of the YMCA of the Triangle Inc. in Raleigh.

A service to celebrate Nancy’s life was held at 2 o’clock Saturday, June 20, 2015, at Wake Forest Presbyterian Church.

Nancy is survived by her husband of 31 years, Greg Goethe; children, Jayne Pofahl and husband, Thomas, of Boston, Massachusetts, and Grant Goethe of Wake Forest; father, Edwin Shipley of Flushing, Michigan; brother, David Shipley of Flushing, Michigan; and nieces, Eleanor and Heather. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lois McDonald Shipley, and by a sister, Jane Shipley.

Memorial contributions can be made to Wake Forest Presbyterian Church, American Cancer Society or to the V Foundation for Cancer Research.

Lois P. Whisnant

Youngsville

Lois Rebecca Perry Whisnant, 82, of Youngsville died Tuesday, June 16, 2015, at Rex Hospital. She was born in Franklin County, the daughter of the late Artelia Mitchell Floyd and Hubert Lee Perry.

A graveside funeral service was held at 11 o’clock Friday morning, June 19, 2015, at New Hope Christian Church Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Barham officiating.

Mrs. Whisnant is survived by her sister, Dorothy Mullen; brother, Glen Perry and wife, Patricia; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Adrian Whisnant; sister, Vivian Duke; brother, Donald Perry; and by her step-father, Felix Floyd.

 Grace Marie Conyngham

January 22, 1924 – June 16, 2015

Wake Forest

Grace Marie Hiller Conyngham of Wake Forest passed away peacefully in her home on June 16, 2015, after an extended illness. Grace was born in Erie, Pennsylvania, to the late Otto W. and Grace P. Hiller.

Grace is survived by her husband of 70 years, Richard W. Conyngham; her son, James Conyngham and his wife, Karen, of Austin, Texas, and her daughter, Patricia Bogdanski and her husband, Edward of Wake Forest.  She also leaves behind a sister, Dorothy Farnstrom of Erie, Pennsylvania; two granddaughters; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to give special thanks to the loving caregivers from Stay At Home Senior Care and Duke Hospice.

Private burial services will be held in Erie, Pennsylvania, at a later date.

 Macie Perry Ray

Sumter, South Carolina

Macie Perry Ray, 83, died Wednesday, June 17, 2015 in Sumter, South Carolina. She was a long time resident of Sumter. She was born and raised in Wake County. She was the only daughter of Percy Hezro and Virgillia Ray Perry. She was predeceased by her husband Ollie N. Ray.

A graveside service was held at 11 o’clock Saturday morning, June 20, 2015, at the Stony Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

She is survived by one son, Tom H. Ray of Richmond, Virginia, and by many extended family members in the Wake Forest area.

Laura Tant Driver, 85, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2015, at WakeMed in Raleigh. She was born in Franklin County, the daughter of the late Bessie Florence Tant and Henry Tant. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Lee Driver.

A graveside funeral service was held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon, June 18, 2015, at New Hope Christian Church Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Barham officiating.

Mrs. Driver is survived by her sister, Mattie Bell Driver of Louisburg; brother, David Tant (Annie Bell) of Pilot; and nieces, Diane Daniel (Jimmy) of Louisburg, Janine Kyles (James) of Nashville and Debbie Allen (Robert) of Pilot.

Louisburg

Sarah Faye Fields, 73, of Louisburg, died Thursday, June 18, 2015. She was born in Johnston County, the daughter of the late Josephine Moore and Bernie Clifton Blackmon.

Funeral services were held at 11 o’clock Monday morning, June 22, 2015, at Flat Rock Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary McNair officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Faye is survived by her children, Kim Gilliam and husband, Michael, of Louisburg, Randy Hunt and wife, Linna, of Middlesex, Danny Hunt and wife, Linda, of Huntersville and Cliff Hunt of Louisburg; sisters, Brenda Mott and Linda Savage, both of Virginia; and five grandchildren.

 Ruby Jane Simmons East Nall

Ruby Jane Simmons East Nall of Wake Forest passed away Saturday, June 20, 2015. She was born April 27, 1920, in Surry County to Charlie and Nannie Inman Simmons. She was predeceased by her sisters, Lois and Pauline, and brothers, Ray and Graham.

During World War II she worked as a “Rosie the Riveter” at an ammunition plant in Ypsilanti, Michigan. She moved to Wake County in 1948 when her husband, Robert R. East, joined the NC State Highway Patrol. She was employed at Burlington Industries and retired from there in 1975. Her husband Bob East was killed in the line of duty in 1972.

In 1974 she met Merle Nall, they were married in 1975 and lived in California and Idaho, where his job with Monsanto took them. They enjoyed traveling and visited all 50 states. A particular favorite was Hawaii, always their best vacation destination, and enjoyed several trips to Europe. After Merle’s retirement, they moved first to Greensboro and then to Raleigh. They both enjoyed volunteering at Rex Hospital. Merle passed away in 1998.

Ruby lived her last years at Universal Health Care, North Raleigh, where she made many friends, enjoyed the activities, flower arranging, painting classes, bingo, and crafts. She also enjoyed watching any golf match on television, as well as basketball games.

She is survived by her sister, Evelyn Simmons Taylor of Pilot Mountain; her children, Shirley and Durward Matheny of Wake Forest and Tom (Charles) and Bonnie East of Haymarket, Virginia; her stepchildren, Diana and Kellogg Fleming of Corralitos, California, Ellen and Chris Nall of Suffolk, England, and Richard Nall of Arizona; ker grandchildren, Michael and Kim East of Angier, Taela-George East and Chris East of Raleigh, and Elizabeth and Jeffrey East of Haymarket, Virginia; her step-grandchildren, Sam Nall of Bristol, England, and Josh Nall of Cambridge, England. She is also survived by her seven great-grandchildren, Jessica, Carly, Robert, Kayla, Thomas, Will, and Lauren; two beloved nieces, Brenda Marshall of Mount Airy and Norma Wertz of China Grove; along with several other nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was held at 11 o’clock Tuesday morning, June 23, 2015, at Raleigh Memorial Park.

 George Wilson Murphy

George Wilson Murphy, 99, died Saturday, June 20, 2015, at his residence eight days before his 100th birthday. He was born in Franklin County, the son of the late Cornelia Roberts Murphy and James F. Murphy, and was preceded in death by a daughter, Cathy Murphy Howell.

George was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served in the Pacific Theater during WW II. He was a retired tobacco buyer with Thorpe Greenville and a retired tobacco farmer.

Funeral services were held at 4 o’clock Monday afternoon, June 22, 2015, at Harris Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Bill Haley officiating. Entombment will be held at a later date in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Emily White Murphy; a daughter, Judy M. Currin and husband, Tom, of Cary; sons, Rick Wilson Murphy and wife, Martha, of Greensboro, and George Wilson Murphy Jr. of New York, New York; grandchildren, Murphy Ayala and husband, Steve, Curt Trogdon and wife, Carla, Blake Murphy and wife, Bethaney, Connor Wilson Murphy and Elizabeth Camille Brown; and four great-grandchildren.

Liberty O’Neal Strock, 88, of Raleigh passed away Friday evening, June 19, 2015, at Hillside Nursing Center in Wake Forest. She was born in Wake County, the daughter of the late Loretta Ray O’Neal and William Graham O’Neal.

Funeral services were held at 3 o’clock Monday afternoon, June 22, 2015, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with the Rev. Margaret Sanford officiating. Burial was in the Woodland Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Strock is survived by her husband, Marion Strock; daughters, Connie Flynn and her husband, Michael, of Wake Forest and Karen Strock of New York, New York; and grandchildren, Ashley and Trent Flynn.

The family wishes to thank the CNAs and the nursing staff at Hillside Nursing Center for all the love and care they have given them and Mrs. Strock for the last 15 years.
