Carlos Neil Pearce

Carlos “Neil” Pearce, aka Frisky, aka Nina, aka Carlos, aka Double Ringer, aka Walk-on of Raleigh, went to be with his personal Lord and Savior Jesus Christ today. He was 77.      He was loved and laughed at by his four grandchildren, Carter and Bailey Popson and Jaxon and Hannah Bunton, who will all miss his duck voice and butter churn dearly.

Funeral services were held at 11 o’clock Monday morning, February 17, 2014, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with the Rev. Justin Buchanan officiating. Burial was in Greenmount Cemetery in Wendell.

Neil loved having his whole family in one place at one time and making as much noise as humanly possible. That family who is as close as any though they live thousands of miles apart includes; sister and brother in law Jack and Jocelyn Wheeler who live in Nova Scotia, their sons, Jon and James who live in Maui, sister-in-law Kathie Matthews who lives in Georgia, and her daughters, Mackenzie and Ashley, who live in Florida.

Neil was addicted to beating anyone and everyone that dared step up to challenge his dominance of the horse shoe pits or billiard table. He always made sure that no one was left out and that everyone heard at least one of his fourteen favorite stories of his high school and college buddies; stories that never seemed to get old, even after you heard them for the hundredth time. Neil loved food, almost any food, but was never afraid to tap, tap, tap when the bacon was raw or the fish too fishy.

After serving his country in the U.S Navy, he was honorably discharged as Lt. Commander. Neil never met a stranger in the 40 years of running his own successful real estate company, a business that provided thoroughbreds for his beloved daughters, and his favorite place, the Lakehouse at Lake Gaston, which was the source of never ending escapades, whether it was griswalding it to the grill to shoot pool or running on fumes up the river. His especially loved taking in each and every Gaston sunset and appreciating each one to the fullest. Neil took it all in with a love of life, a giant compassionate heart, and an ear to ear grin. The world was a better place for Neil being part of it!

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughters, Carla Popson and Kim Bunton; and sons-in-law, Johnny Popson and Phillip Bunton II.

Pallbearers were Carey Copeland, James Hambright, Stuart Leder, Phil Bunton, and Tom Bean. Honorary pallbearers were Carter Popson and Jaxon Bunton.
