Wake Forest

Lillie Ann Bushey, 76, of Wake Forest passed away Monday morning, May 4, 2015, at Wake Medical Center. She was born in Wake County, the daughter of the late Lillie Denton Faison and Leroy Faison, and was a member of Glen Royal Baptist Church.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon, May 7, 2015, at Wake Forest Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Faile officiating.

Lillie is survived by her daughter, Anita Woodlief of Wake Forest; a sister, Gracie Perry of Wake Forest; a brother, Dwight Faison of Franklinton; a granddaughter, Courtney Brown of Franklinton; and three great-grandchildren, Cheyanne Moxley, David Moxley and Alexis Brown.

Friends may visit with the family from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday May 6, 2015, at Bright Funeral Home & Cremation Center 405 South Main Street, Wake Forest.

 Gilbert Donald Schaefer

Louisburg

Gilbert Donald Schaefer, 77, of Louisburg passed away April 29, 2015, at UNC Hospitals. He was born October 11, 1937, in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of the late George Washington Schaefer and Catherine Frieda Wagner Schaefer. Mr. Schaefer retired from Westinghouse and Northrop Grumman after over 30 years as a design draftsman.

Mr. Schaefer was a devoted husband, father and grandfather whose life was centered on his family. He loved to travel, study history and was a good cook who enjoyed tinkering with recipes. Mr. Schaefer was a stroke survivor of over 60 years who never let his limitations hold him back from fully participating in life. He was always building things to improve his life.  Mr. Schaefer cared for his mother in her old age with great resolve and patience, and he never held a grudge.

Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Tuesday, May 5, 2015, at Hope Lutheran Church, Wake Forest. Burial was in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Schaefer is survived by his wife of 39 years, Eleanor Elizabeth Schaefer; daughter, Laura Ann Schaefer and husband, Bobby Ray, of Louisburg; grandchildren, Catherine Elizabeth Ray, George Leron Ray and Elaine Matilda Ray; cousin, Janet Schaefer Schultz  and husband, Jack, of Cocoa, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

Charles D. McLaughlin

Youngsville

Charles David McLaughlin, 82, of Youngsville died April 30, 2015, in the North Carolina State Veterans Home in Fayetteville.

He was born in Oakland, California, on December 31, 1932. Charles joined the United States Air Force in 1952 and served in the Korean Conflict. In 1960, Charles married Ruby Galpin at Harmon Air Base, in Stephenville, Newfoundland, Canada. Charles served honorably in the United States Air Force for over 26 years, retiring at the rank of Master Sergeant. After retirement from military service, he served his country for an additional 20 years in federal service and completed an associate’s degree in Liberal Arts.

Charles is survived by his wife, Ruby, and his five children, Thomas, David, Lisa, Christopher and Charlene and their spouses, Teresa, Anne Marie, Pam and Wayne. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Hailey, Benjamin and Jacob. Additional surviving family members include his older brother, Clarence Lee McLaughlin, and his sister, Georgia Rellick, both living in California.

A private funeral service will be held at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. In fitting tribute to his years of service to this nation, his remains will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his honor to the American Legion.

 Betty Murphy Rogers

Youngsville

Betty Murphy Rogers, 82, of Youngsville died Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at Wake Medical Center. She was born in Franklin County, the daughter of the late James C. Murphy and Betty Grace Arnold Murphy.

Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon, May 1, 2015, at Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Davis and the Rev. Bill Wallace officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Rogers is survived by her sons, Mark Rogers and wife, Tammy, of Youngsville, Jackie Rogers and wife, Debbie, of Youngsville, and Bill Rogers and wife, Carla, of Spring Hope; sister, Alice Johnson of Youngsville; grandchildren, Carly Williams, Jason Rogers, Jeremy Rogers, Megan Rogers, Brittany Rogers, Anna Rogers, Chase Creech, Taylor Creech; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Lawrence Rogers.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bethlehem Baptist Church, 1581 Bethlehem Church Road, Youngsville, NC 27596.

Pallbearers were Jeremy Rogers, Jason Rogers, Robert Richards, Jeff Bryant, Steve Pace, and Wayne Bray.
