Talmadge Andrew “Andy” Wall, 63, of Kill Devil Hills passed away Sunday evening, March 29, 2015, at his home. Andy was born September 29, 1951, to Elvis Chester Wall and Marie Cunningham Wall and was a native of Rolesville.
He was a 1969 graduate of Millbrook High School in Raleigh and completed undergraduate studies at Pembroke State University, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1973. During his high school years, Andy played in a band called the Summits combo and later played with the Mystics. In 1974 he earned his Masters in Media Education from East Carolina University, where he once again graduated Magna Cum Laude.
Andy was AV director for Wake County Public Schools from 1974 to 1984. Later he was a Media Communications Specialist for 3-M and AV Director at Wilson Community College. In 1985 he started his own multi-media production company in Wilson and worked with several Fortune 500 companies to promote and advertise their businesses. He started a second multi-media company in 1999 known as Mediawall that continues to operate today. Andy did special events such as weddings, fishing tournaments, boat shows, and a veterinary conference for the East Coast Veterinary Association. He did multiple media installations for the N.C. Aquarium in Manteo, Jeanette’s Pier, many churches and even personal homes. He loved being a media missionary- to ALL his clients…Thanks for the business and thanks for being a friend!!!
During his time of relaxation, Andy enjoyed water sports and snow skiing. He was an avid sailor and won numerous awards for several races. He had a true passion for life and living each day with the same energy of hard work and hard play.
A service celebrating his life will be held at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon, April 2, 2015, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home. Friends may visit with the family from 1 to 2 prior to the service.
Andy is survived by his wife, Lynne P. Wall; children, Coy Privette and wife, Niki, and Brandi Privette; his mother, Marie Cunningham Wall; brother, Glenn Wall and wife, Sue; grandchildren, Hunter, Carson, and Andrew; niece, Susan Wall Holland and husband, Kevin, and their daughter, Annabel; and nephew, John Wall and wife, Holly, and their daughter, Olivia Claire. He was preceded in death by his father, Chester Wall.

Iris Lee Dickinson
Wake Forest
Iris Lee Lowery Dickinson, 85, of Wake Forest died Monday, March 30, 2015. She was born in Wake County, the daughter of the late Emily Mangum Lowery and Joseph Fred Lowery, and was married to William Dickinson, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Dickinson was retired from the N.C. Department of Correction after 30 years of service and also worked on weekends for many years at Hillhaven Convalescent Center.
One of Iris’ favorite activities was riding through the countryside, especially around the Falls Community where she was born, raised and lived a majority of her life. She enjoyed seeing cows and horses and budding crops in the spring and full-grown crops in the fall. She loved fall colors and spring blooms. Because she had worked in tobacco as a child, every time she saw a tobacco field she would say something like “glad it is them and not me.”
A graveside funeral service will be held at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon, April 2, 2015, at the Falls Community Cemetery, 12165 Falls of Neuse Road.
Mrs. Dickinson is survived by her sons, Marvin Dickinson and Steve Dickinson of Wake Forest and Charles Dickinson of Youngsville; and special friend, Teresa Dillard. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Linwood Lowery, Haywood Lowery and Wayne Lowery, and by her sister, Lorene Goodwin.

Bobby Ray McGhee

Bobby Ray McGhee, 74, of Wake Forest died Sunday, March 29, 2015. He was born in Wake County, the son of the late Ella Mae McGhee and Edward Doy McGhee, and was a member of Beulah Christian Baptist Church. Bobby was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a retired convenience store clerk.
Funeral services were held at 11 o’clock Wednesday morning, April 1, 2015, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home. Burial was in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.
Bobby is survived by his wife, Dorothy B. McGhee; children, Gene McGhee, Donna Maynard, and Robbie McGhee; brother, Charles Edward McGhee; step-children, Glenn Howard and Sherry Barbour; and five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Bonnie Clair McGhee, and Elcie May Bailey, and by his brothers, Burlon Bruce McGhee, and Billy Wayne McGhee.

John Travis Baxter

John went to be with his Lord and Savior suddenly Saturday evening, March 28th at his home in Wake Forest. He was born on April 27 in Washington County, Alabama, son of the late Roland Baxter and Katie Ann Barnes Baxter. He was also preceded in death by his sister Wilma Baxter.
John loved his family and is survived by his wife, Lavay Moss Baxter; sons, Stephen Travis Baxter and wife, Mary Esther Baxter, and David Russell Baxter and wife, Elizabeth Powell Baxter; grandchildren, Georgia Lavay Baxter, Allison Elizabeth Baxter, Abigail Marie Baxter, Stephanie Ann Baxter, and Travis Pressley Baxter; brother, Kenneth Baxter (Ann); sisters, Margean Cozad (Jack), Annette Caten, and Betty Moorer (Jimmy); and many nieces and nephews.
John graduated from Washington County High School in Chatom, Alabama, served in the U.S. Navy, graduated from the Rollins College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics, and worked as an engineer with IBM for 33 years. He was an active member of Neuse Baptist Church since 1978. He made himself ready and available to serve the Lord and anyone else with a need. No one loved his wife, sons, and grandchildren more.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at Bright Funeral Home in Wake Forest, and the funeral service will take place at the same location at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2015.
There will be a memorial service in Chatom on April 25th at Fairhope Baptist Church at 3 o’clock in the afternoon.

Jerry Talbot Smith, 72, of Youngsville died Sunday, March 29, 2015. He was born in Alabama, the son of the late Hugh and Myrtle Smith, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Jerry was a retired Appliance Service Repair Technician.
Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon, April 1, 2015, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home. Burial was in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Martha W. Smith; sons, Brian M. Smith of Missouri, Cameron Smith and wife, Emily, of Georgia and Skyler Smith and wife, Megan, of Georgia; step-daughters, Sharron Champion and husband, Todd, of Franklinton, Leigh Melvin and husband, Eddie, of Franklinton, and Dana Wade and husband, Jonathan, of Lexington; sister, Mary Ann Sumey and husband, Steven, of South Carolina; brother, Terry Curenton and wife, Rosi, of Florida; and 14 grandchildren.

Everette Wade Perry

Everette Wade Perry, 71, of Wake Forest passed away at 6:50 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 2015. He was born August 25, 1944, the son of the late Fennerson Perry and Mary Carter Perry. Everette was a loving husband, brother, father and grandfather. He found his strength and peace worshiping the Lord at Beulah Christian Baptist Church and spent his time serving as an active Deacon.
Funeral services were held at 12 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at Beulah Christian Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 50 years, Bonnie Lassiter Perry; his sons, Tony Perry and wife, Kim, Michael Perry and wife, Ann, and Darin Perry and wife, Kristin; siblings, Roy Perry and late wife, Barbara, Paulette Parrish and late husband, Bobby, Donald Perry and wife, Patricia, and Vickie Cozart and husband, Tommy. He focused his time on his five grandchildren, Megan, Kaylin, Zachary, Madison and Aden Perry.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sweet baby daughter, Karen Lynn, and by his sister, Jo Ann Regan.

Harold Wayne ‘Hal’ Miller

Harold Wayne “Hal” Miller, 79, of Wake Forest passed away Wednesday evening, March 25, 2015, at his home. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late Charles Frederick Miller and Ruth Heginbotham Miller.
Hal graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. At MIT, Hal was a member of the Air Force ROTC and captain of the fencing team. After graduation, he served four years as an officer in the Air Force, before continuing his defense work as a civilian. Hal spent much of his career with ITT Corporation, eventually serving as President of North American Telecommunications and a corporate vice president in NYC. While his four boys were growing up, he served as a Scout Master with the Boy Scouts and as commodore of the Smoke Rise NJ Sailing Club, enjoying outdoor time with his sons. Following his retirement from ITT, Hal became the owner of Miller’s Ace Hardware, where he worked proudly with two of his sons for many years. After his second retirement, Hal devoted his time to many charitable activities, including Habitat for Humanity, Saint Saviour’s Center on Tucker Street in Raleigh, Wake Technical Community College Board of Trustees, and the Wake Forest Historical Society.
Funeral services were held at 1 o’clock Monday afternoon, March 30, 2015, at Christ Episcopal Church in Raleigh. Burial was in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Miller is survived by his wife of 57 ½ years, Ethel Bowditch Miller; sons, William C. Miller and wife, Stacey, of Beaumont, Texas, Douglas W. Miller and husband, Michael, of Seattle, Washington, Preston M. Miller and wife, Elizabeth, of Wake Forest, and Russell R. Miller and wife, Gigi, of Atlanta, Georgia; grandchildren, Miles Miller of Santa Monica, California, Rakela Miller of Chapel Hill, Savannah Miller of Wake Forest and Samuel Miller of Wake Forest; siblings, Robert Miller and wife, Connie, of Winchester, Virginia, Alfred Miller and wife, Joan, of Chestertown, Maryland, Frances Peterson and husband, Craig, of Holland, Pennsylvania, and Edith Lipinski-Considine and husband, Roy, of Concord, Massachusetts.

Pearlee Pearce “Pat” Gropp, 96, of Wake Forest died Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at Hillside Nursing Center. She was born in Wake County, the daughter of the late Walter and Carrie Pearce, and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 3 o’clock Saturday afternoon, March 28, 2015, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home. Burial was in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Gropp is survived by her daughter, Donna Drake and husband, Ted, of Southlake, Texas; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Gropp; her sisters, Beadie Bridges, Ada Braswell, Lottie Dean, Vila Nolan and Ila Pearce; and by her brothers, Melton Pearce and Nathaniel Pearce.

Maggie Smith Goodwin
Raleigh
Maggie Smith Goodwin, 98, of Raleigh died on Wednesday, March 25, 2015. She was born February 3, 1917, to the late Stella B. Smith and the late Norman Smith. Mrs. Goodwin was the widow of Orville W. Goodwin and was also preceded in death by her brother, Vernon L. Smith.
Mrs. Goodwin is survived by her son, Robert O. Goodwin and his wife, Sandra, and by her daughter, Louise G. Shirley and her husband, Drew. Mrs. Goodwin is survived by four grandchildren and their spouses: Brent (Sarah) Goodwin, Eric (Katherine) Goodwin, Jason (Lotus) Shirley and Erin S. (Brian) Whitaker. She is also survived by three great-granddaughters and two nephews and their families.
The family of Maggie Goodwin wishes to express their gratitude to the caring staff of Hillside Nursing and Rehab of Wake Forest, and to her special friends who checked on her while she was at home.
Maggie Goodwin loved her church and her church friends. She was a member of Ebenezer Community Baptist Church for more than 70 years and served in many ways including starting the first Children’s Church. Her faith in God and love of His Word remained constant.
Mrs. Goodwin loved vegetable and flower gardening. The bounty of fruit and vegetables was preserved and served in huge quantities at the family meals she loved to prepare. Her buttered biscuits with homemade preserves disappeared before plates were passed. She also enjoyed crafts, especially knitting, crocheting, and quilting. Mountains of quilts, afghans, and baby blankets were produced and treasured by those she loved.
A graveside funeral service was held at noon at Brier Creek Memorial Gardens in Raleigh.
