Carolyn Curry
Carolyn Curry, 65, passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2015, at Wake Medical Center. She was born in LeMars, Iowa, the daughter of the late Betty Beechler Chicoine and Orville Chicoine, and was preceded in death by a grandson, Nathan Lamson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 o’clock Friday morning, February 13, 2015, at Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Church.
Mrs. Curry is survived by her husband, Thomas Curry; her children, Elissa Norris and husband, James, of Chesapeake, Va., Christopher Curry of Wake Forest, Diana Curry of Raleigh and Ava Curry of Wake Forest; brothers, David Chicoine of Lincoln, Calif., Jerry Chicoine and Robert Chicoine, both of Des Moines, Iowa; and grandchildren, Ryan, Liam and Molly Norris.
Memorial contributions may be made in Carolyn’s name to The MD Anderson Cancer Center for Cancer Research, 1515 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, TX 77030.

Peggy Bradley Manning
Raleigh
Peggy Bradley Manning, 72, of Raleigh, passed away after a brief battle with lung cancer on Friday, February 6, 2015, at Abbotswood at Stonehenge. She was born in Jackson County to the late Walter Sley Bradley and Margaret Belva Ann Messer Bradley. Mrs. Peggy was a Financial Secretary with the Polk County School Board in Polk County, Fla., for 37 years.
Mrs. Peggy was a devoted wife, mother, nana, sister and friend. She love to spend time with family and friends, travel, crochet and was an avid gardener. She was a lifelong member of Beta Sigma Phi and will be dearly missed.
A celebration of Mrs. Peggy’s life was held at 10 o’clock Tuesday morning, February 10, 2015, in the Chapel of Bay Leaf Baptist Church, 12200 Bayleaf Church Road, Raleigh, NC 27614. Burial will be in the Wilmot Community Cemetery in Silva.
Mrs. Peggy is survived by her husband, Dr. Charles Manning Jr. of Raleigh; daughters, Pamela Rigsby and husband ,Howard, of Raleigh, Teresa Orth and husband, Joseph, of Bartow, Fla., and Crystal Freeman and husband, Lawrence, of Bryson City; grandchildren, Kylie and Clay Rigsby both of Raleigh, Justin and Shelby Orth, both of Bartow, Fla., Amber, Brianna and Christian Bird and Amber Freeman, all of Bryson City; sisters, Frankie Purvis of Whittier, Belva Ham and husband, Bill, of Whittier and Nancy Bell and husband, James, of Balsam; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Junior William “J.W.” Rodgers; sister, Thelma Buchanan; and brothers, Glen, Vincent, Gerald, Earl and Joe Bradley.

Simon ‘Sugar Boy’ Rogers Jr.
Wake Forest
Simon “Sugar Boy” Rogers Jr., 90, of Wake Forest, died Friday, February 6, 2015, at his home. Simon was born February 1, 1926, in Franklin County, the son of the late Simon Rogers and Rebecca Moye Vaughn Rogers Wester.
Simon never got to go to college. During World War II when he was 16 years old and driving a school bus, he fibbed a little about his age in order to join the U.S. Navy where he served for four years. Most of his time was spent in the South Pacific on the U.S. Saratoga. After returning home, Simon worked in several fields of employment including farming, the N.C. State Prison Department, Seaboard Railroad and he eventually retired with the Raleigh Fire Department after 30 years of service.
Simon has been fondly referred to in many different ways: a “character,” a “self-educated man,” and “a man with the best memory you ever saw.” He could discuss most any subject and knew the date and year of their happenings.
Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon, February 9, 2015, at the Bethlehem Baptist Church. Burial was in the Rogers Family Cemetery located on the Franklin County farm that Simon inherited from his father in 1928 when he was three years old with Masonic Graveside Rites. Simon was a member of the White Stone Lodge #155 A.F. & A.M. for 67 years.
Simon is survived by three sisters, Mary O’Neal (Royster) of Wake Forest, Pattie Watson of Durham, and Glathy Bullard of Franklinton; two nieces, Gail Mitchell of Henderson and Tammy Newsome (Todd) of Louisburg; three nephews, Tommy Coppedge and Sammy Coppedge of Richmond, Va., and Mark Watson of Durham; a great-nephew, Isaiah Mitchell; and a great-niece, Dazier Mitchell of Henderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Nellie Coppedge (Mildred) of Richmond and Daphne Hill (Haywood) of Louisburg; brother-in-law, James Watson of Durham; nephew, Louis Hill of Louisburg; and the love of his life and special girl friend of 57 years, Rachel Mae Perry of Zebulon.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Ann Ibach of Internal Medicine Associates of Raleigh; Dr. Brian Bennett and the doctors and nurses on staff at Rex Hospital and Rex Rehab and to Dr. Amarendra Reddy and Dr. John Sinden at WakMed for all the great care they have given Simon over the years. Appreciation also goes to Rev. Dr. Baxter Prevatte of Wendell and Pastor Tito Madrazo of Woodland Baptist Church for their many prayers and visits and for participation in this funeral service.

Jerry Lee Jarman

Jerry Lee Jarman, 67, of Wake Forest, passed away Saturday, February 7, 2015, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Durham County to the late Edward Lee Jarman and Alice Williams Jarman. Jerry was a hard worker, very strong and lived for his family. He loved fishing and old cars.
Funeral services will be held at 1 o’clock Saturday afternoon, February 14, 2015, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Beulah Christian Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Jarman is survived by his wife of 42 years, Joyce Jackson Jarman; children, Kelly Jarman of Wake Forest, Paul Jarman of Wake Forest and Corey Jarman and Tara of Raleigh; grandson, Adam Jarman; brothers, Charles Jarman and wife, Peggy, James Jarman and wife, Marilynn, and Dale Jarman, all of Louisburg; sister, Kay King and husband, Sidney, of Wake Forest; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
