Janellen ‘Jane’ Mewkill

Wake Forest

Jane Mewkill, 84, died Friday, December 19, 2014, at Rex Hospital. She was born in Bronx, N.Y., the daughter of the late Jean Rogers Carson Brocker and William Brocker, and was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. “Charlie” Mewkill Jr. in 2010.

Funeral services were held at 11 o’clock Tuesday morning, December 23, 2014, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home. Burial was in Wake Forest Cemetery.

Mrs. Mewkill is survived by her children, Charles Edward “Charley” Mewkill III of New Hampshire, Jean M. DeSanctis of Cary, and Bob Mewkill and wife, Susan, of Wake Forest; grandchildren, Tammy Mewkill, Charley Mewkill, Richard DeSanctis, Sarah Scofield, Jeannie Ward, Jen Smith and Bobbie Judge; brother, William “Bill” Brocker of Moncure; and numerous great grandchildren.

Mae Perry Thompson

Youngsville

Mae Perry Thompson, 84, died Thursday, December 18, 2014, at Rex Hospital. She was born in Wake County, the daughter of the late Bertie Stell Perry and Crocker Percy Perry. She was married to William Leonard “Bill” Thompson who preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held at 3 o’clock Sunday afternoon, December 21, 2014, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with Eastern Star Rites. Burial was in the Oak Level Christian Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Thompson is survived by her daughter, Pamela Thompson Adams and husband, Andy, of Youngsville; granddaughters, Michaela Lynn Wynne and Kimberly Kaye Wynne, both of Youngsville; and by a sister, Margaret Perry Barden of Knightdale.

Choplin,JoeW.(Newspaper)

Burgaw, formerly of Raleigh

Mr. Joe Choplin, age 87, passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2014. Mr. Choplin was born March 7, 1927, in Granville County, son of James Walter and Lela Smith Choplin.

He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 59 years, Clara Choplin; one daughter, Cindy Lanier of Burgaw and husband, Jerome Lanier; a granddaughter, Mandy Leary (Kenny) of Wilmington; a grandson, Adam Lanier of Burgaw; one brother Lewis (Louise) of Wake Forest; two sisters, Billie Lowery (Henry) of Wake Forest and Betty Williams (Keith) of Charlotte; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Joseph Mark Choplin; three brothers, James Choplin, Marlie Choplin, Elton Choplin; and three sisters, Cora Bailey, Evelyn Cross, and Madgeline Thompson

Mr. Choplin moved to Burgaw in recent years after spending most of his adult life in Raleigh, where he was a lifetime member of the New Hope Baptist Church for close to 50 years. After moving to Burgaw, he attended Westview Methodist Church and joined the Burgaw Baptist Church where he enjoyed the men’s Sunday School class.

Mr. Choplin served his country honorably in the navy in 1945. He was a member of the New Hope Volunteer Fire Department for 13 years. After his retirement from the N.C. Department of Corrections in Raleigh he was generous with his time in carrying Meals on Wheels for over 10 years. Mr. Choplin enjoyed his friends that he shared coffee breaks with in Raleigh for many years before moving to Burgaw. He will always be remembered for his visits and acts of kindness to shut-ins as well as his generous blood donations for many years to the Red Cross.

Funeral services were held at 1 o’clock Monday afternoon, December 22, 2014, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Richard Childress officiating. Burial was in Historic Oakwood Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to New Hope Baptist Church in Raleigh or the Burgaw Baptist Church 110 East Bridges Street Burgaw, NC 28425.

Pallbearers were Leonard Cross, Robbie Cross, Kerry Cross, Gene Cross, Sanford Bailey, Adam Lanier, and Kenny Leary.

Joe’s life and love will continue in the memories and hearts of those he left behind.

Howard L. ‘H.L.’ Cash Jr.

Youngsville

Howard Lee “H.L” Cash Jr., 58, died Thursday, December 18, 2014, at his residence. He was born in Wake County, the son of the late Margie Averette Cash and Howard Lee Cash Sr.

Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon, December 22, 2014, at Oak Level Christian Church in Youngsville with the Rev. Gary Williams officiating. Burial was in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.

H.L. is survived by his sister, Phyllis C. Keith of Wake Forest; brother, David E. Cash and wife, April, of New Bern; niece, Nichole Mathis and husband, James, of Fuquay-Varina; great-niece, Kaitlyn Mathis; and several aunts and uncles.

Pallbearers were Anthony Cash, Daryl Cash, Kirby Pearce, Craig Pleasants, James Mathis, and Gary Sullivan.

Albert Taylor Moore

Wake Forest

Albert Taylor Moore, 62, died Tuesday, December 16, 2014, at Transitions LifeCare in Raleigh.  He was affectionately known as “T” by his wife and “Taylor” by his many friends.

Funeral services were held at 3 o’clock Sunday afternoon, December 21, 2014, at the American Legion Post 52 in Franklinton.

Taylor was born July 29, 1952, in Oxford, the son of the late Herman Taylor Moore and Cecile Joyce Crowder.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from October 1970 until November 1973, achieving the rank of Lance Corporal while serving with the 1st Battalion 7th Marines.  His Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) was 2511 – Wireman.

Taylor attended Durham Technical Community College from 1973 to 1975 and received a certificate in Electrical Apprentice I. He received his GED at Wake Tech Community College in 1980 followed by Industrial Engineering from 1981-82. He worked at many jobs and locations over the years, mostly as an electrician.  Other than as an electrician he worked for NAPA Auto Parts of Wake Forest and Housekeeping at the Durham VA Hospital.

Taylor was an avid NASCAR fan and participated in the sport as an owner/operator in the Grand Stock division.  He raced mainly at Orange County and South Boston tracks.

Taylor was an active member of the American Legion from 2001 until present. He was a member of the Firing Squad, Chairman of the Veteran’s Memorial Committee, Convention Delegate 2008, a member of the Stand Up For America Committee 2007-8, Post 52 Executive Committee, and was currently serving as 2nd Vice Commander for the Post. He was also active in the Marine Corps League – Air, Land, NC Detachment 1257 from 2006 until present, working on Fund raising and Toys for Tots. In his spare time he enjoyed wood working, model building, and helping his friends and neighbors.

Taylor was a Christian by faith and attended many varying churches over the years, always seeking the will of God in his life.  He was last attending Faith Baptist Church, Youngsville.

He is survived by his wife, Velinda Lee (Tracy) Moore, whom he married on May 13, 2000, in Williamsport, Maryland. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter from his first marriage, Rebecca Michele Moore, Arizona; a sister, Joyce Ann Hall and husband Roger, Rougemont; two very special nieces, Velinda L. Basallo, Buies Creek, and Shawna M. Basallo, Wake Forest; numerous other nieces and nephews; father and mother in-law, George G. and Janet M. Tracy; brother-in-law, George B. Tracy; and sister-in-law, Juliane Basallo, all of Wake Forest,.

Geraldine Lois Gary

Wake Forest

Geraldine Lois Gary, 96, died Sunday morning, December 21, 2014, at her residence. She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Lula Fletcher Moss and James C. Moss, and was preceded in death by a son, Kenric Christopher Gary, and her husband, Edwin C. Gary Sr.

Mrs. Gary is survived by her son, Ed C. Gary and wife, Salina, of Wake Forest; grandchildren, Robin Marie Gary and Pamela Ann Gary, both of Wake Forest, and Jeannie Brister of Pennsylvania; and great-grandchildren, Taylor Gill, Taryn Gill, Tory Gary, Angel Brister and Antwon Brister.

Judith ‘Judy’ Bennett Tillley Emory

Wake Forest

Judith “Judy” Bennett Tilley Emory, 69, passed from this life into eternal life to be with her ord on December 17, 2014. She died after a lengthy illness at the home of her only child, Michelle, and son-in-law, Randy.

She was a lifetime resident of Wake Forest and a member of Glen Royal Baptist Church. She retired from Nationwide Insurance after 30 years of service.

She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Emory Bailey and husband, Randy; grandsons, Clay and Luke Bailey; brother, William W. Tilley Sr. and wife, Jo Ann; nephews, Weldon and Greg Tilley of Wake Forest; sister, Elaine T. Kearney and husband, Larry; nephew, Joey Kearney and wife, Caiti, of Franklinton; great-nieces, Elyse and Brooke Tilley of Wake Forest, and Mackenzie Kearney of Franklinton; a favorite cousin, Phyllis H. Johnson of Florida; many loved uncles, aunts and cousins; and a special longtime friend, Steve Lowery.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Caroline B. Tilley; father, William J. Tilley; nephew, Peter Kearney; and grandmothers, Blanche Horton and Genevea Moore.

Although she was small in stature, she had a great big heart when it came to her love for her precious family and friends. She will be missed by all those who knew and loved her for her sweet and gentle spirit, giving nature and genuine love and concern for others.

A memorial service was held Saturday, December 20, 2014, at 1 p.m. December 20, 2014, at Glen Royal Baptist Church.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to Glen Royall Baptist Church Building Renovation Project, 731 Elizabeth Avenue, Wake Forest, NC 27587
