Edith MacMillan Perry

Edith Mae MacMillan Perry, 93, died Monday, November 24, 2014. She was born in Vance County, the daughter of the late Bessie Davis MacMillan and John Oldfield MacMillan, and was married to Hugh Harris Perry, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Perry was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and was a graduate of Millbrook High School. She was a homemaker, farmer and worked at Brentwood Elementary School for 16 years.

Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon, November 26, 2014, at New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Richard Childress officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Perry is survived by her sons, John Perry and wife, Kim, of Apex and Billy Perry and wife, Vicki, of Raleigh; brothers, Carl MacMillan of Wake Forest, Herbert “Bub” MacMillan of Greenville, S.C., and Jack MacMillan of Hickory; five grandchildren, Greg, Terri, Brian, Michael, and Jennifer; and three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, James and Lilly. She was preceded in death by her sister, Louise Brooks, and by her brothers, John Davis MacMillan, George “Bill” MacMillan, and James Robert MacMillan.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Boys and Girls Homes of NC, P. O. Box 127, Lake Waccamaw, NC 28450.

Dr. Joseph Anthony Kulick

Louisburg

Dr. Joseph Anthony Kulick, 81, died Saturday evening November 29, 2014, at his residence. He was born in Buffalo, N.Y., the son of the late Josephine Depasquale Kulick and David Jerome Kulick. Dr. Kulick was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was a retired dentist.

A funeral mass will be held at 10 o’clock Thursday morning, December 4, 2014, at Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Wake Forest. Burial will follow in the Wake Forest Cemetery.

Dr. Kulick was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynda Kathryn Kulick Swaim, and by his former wife, Mary Garrett Kulick.

He is survived by a daughter, Lisa Bradley of Raleigh; son, David James Kulick of Louisburg; sister, Nina Rapp of Clarence, N.Y.; grandchildren, Lauren Karen Bradley and Lindsay Kaitlyn Bradley; and by his son-in-law, Ronald Swaim of Wake Forest.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 520 W. Holding Ave., Wake Forest, NC 27587.

Friends may visit with the family from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at Bright Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 405 South Main Street, Wake Forest.

David Lawrence Brodish

Youngsville

David Lawrence Brodish, 55, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, November 22, 2014. He was born in New Haven, Connecticut, to Alvin and the late Mary Helen Stone Brodish.

From an early age, David was attracted to and excelled in both arts and sciences. As a teenager, David moved from Cincinnati, Ohio, to Clemmons, North Carolina. In 1981, David graduated cum laude from Wake Forest University with a degree in anthropology. After graduating from Wake Forest, David met Freda Ann Hoose, and without delay, David and Freda fell in love. In May of 1983, David and Freda were married in Reynolda Gardens in Winston-Salem.

After marrying Freda, David studied anthropology and anatomical sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Stony Brook University, though he ultimately returned to Wake Forest University, where he received his master’s degree in biological anthropology. Though David worked for different companies early in his career, in 1992 he began his career at RTI International (Research Triangle Institute) as a Quality Assurance Specialist. David prospered at RTI, and by June 2007, he had risen to Director of Regulatory, Quality, and Records Management. Throughout his career, David helped author a variety of professional publications, received a myriad of awards and honors in his field, and became certified in multiple professional certifications and specializations.

David was a loving, warm, and selfless person. He lived his life placing the needs of others far before any need of his own and maintained lifelong relationships with numerous friends across the country. David was passionate about music, arts, literature, and culture, and was a gifted writer and painter. David was an eager traveler and visited Emerald Isle with his family multiple times a year, where he was an avid fisherman and engaged in many outdoor activities.

David is survived by his wife of 31 years, Freda Hoose Brodish; sons, Benjamin Brodish of Raleigh and Jonathan Brodish of Chapel Hill; father, Alvin Brodish of Clemmons; siblings, Paul Brodish and wife, Susan, of Carrboro, Joan Binkley and husband, Dan, of Winston-Salem and Brian Brodish and wife, Barbara, of Greenville; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the North Carolina Costal Land Trust, 131 Racine Drive, Suite 202, Wilmington, NC 28403.

A visitation was held on Wednesday evening, November 26, 2014, at Bright Funeral Home & Cremation Center.

Patricia M. “Patty” Wilkes

Franklinton

Patricia (Patty) M. Wilkes passed away peacefully in her home after a long illness on November 27th in Franklinton at the age of 53.

Patty is survived by her beloved husband, Ward Wilkes; father, Phillip Moore (step-mother, Betty); sister, Dianne Reed (husband George and family); half-brother, Terry Lee Young; and uncle, Joe Wells (wife Judy). She is preceded in death by her mother, Jimmie Sue Wells, and brother, Joseph Moore.

Patty was born on August 7, 1961 in Fairbanks, Alaska. She began with a career as a beautician but later made a career change with longterm employment at Glaxo Smith Kline in RTP. She was an outstanding employee who received many awards for her accomplishments.

She was altruistic and a dedicated member of the North Raleigh Church of Christ. Patty was instrumental with starting an AA group meeting located at her church. This exemplified her love, deep compassion and service to others. Some of her cherished prayers were Saint Francis of Assisi and the AA Promises.

Patty’s interests to name a few were her love for nature and passion for gardening. She adored her dog, Alli, and cat, Herminie. She enjoyed riding her Harley Davidson motorcycle with her friends.

A special heartfelt appreciation goes to Victoria Martin Johnson and Kelly Brown for their dedication and nursing care during the final stages of her illness. Also the never-ending love and support from family and friends throughout her journey.

A Celebration of Life service is scheduled for Saturday, December 6, 2014, at 3 p.m. at North Raleigh Church of Christ located at 8701 Falls of Neuse Road, Raleigh. Pastor Ken Chaffin will officiate the service. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Patty’s life.
