William Curtis ‘Curt’ Soule Jr.

Raleigh

With his favorite Albert King and Stevie Ray Vaughan blues album playing, holding hands with his wife and embraced by his sister and daughters, William Curtis (“Curt”) Soule Jr. passed away serenely and peacefully October 21, 2014.

A Wake Forest native, Curt was a true gentleman, known for his impeccable manners. He always offered a firm handshake, an open door to any lady and a joke to anyone who would listen. Curt was a kind, humble and good-natured person who encouraged and championed for everyone around him. His sincerity, coupled with an unwavering loyalty to others, made him a joy to be around and a beloved friend.

At a young age, Curt began playing golf, a passion he pursued throughout life. He received a scholarship to play for Campbell University in 1968 and was a member of the national championship winning golf team in 1970. Following graduation, Curt made golf his career, holding positions as assistant golf professional at the Country Club of North Carolina (under legendary head golf professional Buck Adams) and North Ridge Country Club, as well as head golf professional at the Country Club of Johnston County. Curt also spent six years as a fundraiser for former U.S. Senator Lauch Faircloth.

When he wasn’t playing, watching or teaching golf, Curt could be found entranced in a John Wayne movie or any Spaghetti Western. He was a voracious reader and especially loved Stephen King and J.R.R. Tolkien.

Curt’s heart belonged to his faithful wife, Beth, whom he adored unequivocally. He spent 22 happy years with her, reveling together in beach trips to the Outer Banks and long rides in his Toyota 4Runner. He was also fiercely proud of his beloved daughters, Mimi and Alli, with whom he shared his love for Wake Forest University, Tolkien’s writing and an appreciation for their family’s long-held property.

In addition to his wife and daughters, Curt is survived by his devoted sister, Ginny Soule, sister-in-law Patti Soule, niece Sarah Soule, nephew Will Soule, son-in-law Jason Carter, his two best friends, Steven Faircloth and Stan Stallings, countless friends, as well as five cats.

A celebration Curt’s life was held on Sunday, October 26, 2014, at Summit Church North Raleigh.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Curt’s favorite non-profit organization, the Camel 24 Fellowship, where he gave of his time and talents for 22 years, fundraising for its annual golf tournament. The Camel 24 Fellowship provides support and healing to those recovering from drug and alcohol addiction in the Wake County area. Donations may be mailed to Camel 24 Fellowship Inc., P.O. Box 58796, Raleigh, NC 27658.
