Barbara Hannon Hawkins Dietz
Barbara Hannon Hawkins Dietz, 73, of Raleigh died March 14, 2014, at WakeMed. She was born in Greenville, S.C., the daughter of the late T.J. and Lucile Boniface Hannon. Mrs. Dietz was a realtor with the Dietz Company in Greenville, S.C., and was a member of Life Church in Wake Forest.
A memorial service honoring her life will be held at 7 o’clock Thursday evening, March 20, 2014, at Universal Healthcare of North Raleigh, 5201 Clarks Fork Drive NW, Raleigh. A private family inurnment will be held in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville, S.C. at a later date.
Mrs. Dietz is survived by her son, Timothy S. Hawkins of Mauldin, S.C.; a daughter, N. Lynn Blake Jones and husband, John Paul Jones Sr., of Raleigh; a brother, David M. Hannon and wife, Beth, of Greer, S.C.; grandchildren, Kaitlin Rose Hawkins, Chelsea Reneé Blake, John Paul Jones Jr. and Grace Marie Jones.

May 17, 1940 ~ March 12, 2014
Mary Louise Gettman Spencer, of Kittrell, known to her family and friends as Marylou or Mom Mom, was surrounded by her family when our Lord God called our angel to him on March 12, 2014.
She retired after working at JC Penny’s for 20 years in the Credit/Catalog department in Raleigh and then worked part time as a bank teller for the NC SECU in Louisburg for 10 years. She was a longtime member of Hope Lutheran Church.
Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock, Monday afternoon, March 17, 2014, at Hope Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Spencer is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, William D. Spencer; children, Valerie and David Wilson, Dallas Spencer, Jananne Spencer, and Nadine Lewis; grandchildren, Kevin, Kristina, and Sean Wilson, Nikki Stiles, Joshua, Shannon, and Olivia Lewis; sister, Vel and Bob Palfy. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Franklin LeRoy Gettman and Velma Clara Hobrock Gettman and by her brother, Franklin LeRoy Gettman Jr.

Jean Daniels Freeman
Jean Daniels Freeman, 78, of Raleigh went to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday, March 13, 2014, at the William M. Dunlap Center for Caring.
She was born in Cabarrus County, the daughter of the late Clayton P. Daniels and Lottie Pearl Wilhelm Daniels. Jean graduated from Presbyterian Nursing School in Charlotte and worked as a nurse for many years in the Raleigh area. She was loved for her gentle, sweet, compassionate nature and was a blessing to all who knew her.
Jean was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, James L. Freeman Sr.; sons, Louis Freeman and wife, Joan, of Wake Forest and Scott Freeman and wife, Kathy, of Raleigh; grandchildren, Jake Freeman of Wake Forest, Amanda Johnson and husband, Ryan, of Clayton, Zach Freeman and wife, Lauren, of Houston, Texas, Abbey Haglund and husband, Sean, of Raleigh, and Corey Freeman of Raleigh; great-grandchildren, Marshall Johnson and Hannah Johnson of Clayton and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock, Sunday afternoon, March 16, 2014, at Wake Forest United Methodist Church.

Glenn D. Walston
Glenn Douglas Walston, 52, of Wake Forest passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at WakeMed. He was born in Wilson County and worked with Lewis Tree Service. Glenn was full of life and was a casual person.
Funeral services were held at 1 o’clock, Saturday afternoon, March 15, 2014 in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Faile officiating. Burial was in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.
Glenn is survived by his wife of 27 years, Rhonda Cook Walston; his mother, Patricia Hamm Walston of Wake Forest; his brother, Mike Walston and his girlfriend, Barbara Flemming, of Youngsville. He was preceded in death by his father, Jessie Douglas Walston.
Pallbearers were Charlie Owens, Daniel Owens, Jody Howell, Kenneth Privette, Derek Haley, and Tim Nicholes.

Shirley M. Blaisdell
Shirley M. Blaisdell of Wake Forest passed away peacefully on March 1, 2014, in Raleigh. She was born on April 1, 1927, in Syracuse N.Y., and was preceded in death by her husband, Gregory D. Blaisdell, after 44 years of marriage.
Mrs. Blaisdell was a devoted wife and loving mother who enjoyed dancing, singing, traveling and decorating her home.
She is survived by her stepsisters, Sally Shaughnessy of Camillus, N.Y., and Kathy Elsey of Cicero, N.Y.; her stepbrothers, William Harrig Jr. (Kathy) of Hastings, N.Y., and Richard Harrig (Patricia) of Bridgeport, N.Y.; her sons, Michael Blaisdell (Barbara), and Daniel Blaisdell (Eileen) of Wake Forest; grandchildren, Daniel Blaisdell II (Leigh) of Charlotte, and Matthew Blaisdell (Jennifer) of Wendell; great-grandchild, Daniel Blaisdell III; step-grandchildren, David Speranza of Seattle, Wash., and M. Richard Speranza (Melissa) of Wake Forest; and step great-grandchildren, Robyn and Benjamin Speranza.

Hal Monroe Smith
June 11, 1944 – March 10, 2014
Hal Smith, of Wake Forest, loving husband, father, and grandfather, died peacefully and unexpectedly on Monday night, March 10, 2014. Hal was the son of Hal E. Smith and Margaret M. Smith. He was born in Greensboro and grew up in Hampton, Va.
Hal graduated from Hampton High School in 1962 and from RPI, presently Virginia Commonwealth University, in 1966. He served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968 and was stationed in Okinawa during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he joined Brown Shoe Company in 1968 and was based in Albuquerque, N.M. In 1972, he moved to Rochester, N.Y., and subsequently relocated to Raleigh, where he covered the Carolinas and Virginia territory. On November 26, 1972, he married his college sweetheart and the love of his life, Mary Elizabeth Kannon, from Franklinton. In 1978, after the birth of their son, Farris, they moved to Wake Forest.
In 1988 Hal retired from Brown Shoe Co. and bought the Wake Forest Western Auto in 1989. His hobbies were sports and classic cars. Hal enjoyed playing golf with his regular group of golf buddies and attending Cleveland Indian baseball games.
Hal loved the people and the community of Wake Forest, giving generously of his time and loving care to friends. He received much pleasure from the many friendships he made throughout his life.
Hal was preceded in death by his parents, Hal and Margaret Smith. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mary Elizabeth Smith; son, Farris Edward Smith and his wife, Müge Smith; granddaughter, Gabriela Mina Smith; sister ,Audrey Morrison and brother-in-law, Doug; sisters-in-law, Ann Nassif (Martin) and Frances Abbott (Robert); nieces and nephews, Wayne and Debby Morrison, Eddie and Becky Morrison, Dawn Kingston, Alysen and Mary-Charles Nassif, David and Elizabeth Ann Abbott; Müge’s parents and special friends, Meltem and Osman Sanikcioglu from Ankara, Turkey.
Funeral services were held at 11 o’clock Friday morning, March 14, 2014, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. Burial was in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.

Michael Dennis ‘Pooh Bear’ Neville
June 22, 1959-March 18, 2014
Michael Dennis “Pooh Bear” Neville, 54, of Wake Forest passed away peacefully on March 18 surrounded by his family. Mike was a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle and friend and will be missed by all. He worked for 36 years at Hi-Cone in Zebulon and has been a volunteer fireman at Rolesville Fire Department for nearly 20 years.
Funeral services will be held at 11 o’clock Thursday morning, March 20, 2014, at Rolesville Baptist Church followed by a private burial in the Scarborough Family Cemetery.
Mike is survived by his parents, Dorothy and Ben Walter “BW” Neville; brother, David Neville (Lynda Lusardi); son, Brandon Neville (Mary Beth Woodlief); daughters, Jennifer Griffin (Robert) and Sarah Thomas (Blair); grandchildren, Abby, Lacey, Ben, and Hunter, who called him “Boo-Boo’’; nieces, Kari Neville and Melanie Wright (Bryan); and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, including his brother firefighters.
