Braden S. Rock

Wake Forest

Braden Stanton Rock, 15, passed away on Monday, September 29, 2014, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on his way to school after leaving a church-sponsored youth scripture study group he attended daily.

He was born in Bingham County, Idaho, and was currently a sophomore at Heritage High School. Braden was a very driven young man. With him, it was go hard or go home. A straight-A student, he was a perfectionist by nature, and he loved to go the extra mile and do whatever it took to stand out and make sure his work was the best it could possibly be. A natural leader, he taught and inspired everyone around him. He was passionate about learning Chinese, utilizing any opportunity to practice speaking with his dad, friends, or random storekeepers, and dreamed of visiting China someday. He had a tremendous musical talent, much of it self-taught, and was very active in the school band. He was learning to master the drums, piano, marimba, and trumpet, with dreams of learning to play enough instruments to create his own one-man band. He was well known for being one of the nation’s fastest rubix cube solvers, often done one-handed while playing a drum, blindfolded, or eating pizza. At his peak, he could solve a cube in 10 seconds. He often brought his cube with him when he was out and about, and frequently used his cubing as an ice-breaker to start conversations. Braden was very outgoing and loved meeting new people. He had a friendly, easygoing, sarcastic personality, with a huge smile you couldn’t help but love, and an infectious laugh. Braden was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis when he was 7 years old and fought severe joint pain daily from that point on. He was so tough that few ever knew he lived with daily pain. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.

Funeral services were held at 10 o’clock Saturday morning, October 4, 2014, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Wake Forest. Burial was in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.

Braden is survived by his father and step-mother, Stan and Josie Rock of Wake Forest; mother, Julie Reeve, of Saint George, Utah; siblings, Faith Rock and Ethan Rock; step-sister, Ava Jones; grandparents, Renn and Marlene Rock of Blackfoot, Idaho, and Bill and Carol Reeve of Saint George, Utah; Chris and Wendy Wilcox of Saint George, Utah; Darwin & Nelda Nef of Enoch, Utah; great-grandmother, Aldus Reeve of Saint George, Utah; special cousin, Tyson Johnson of Blackfoot, Idaho; numerous aunts, uncles, and extended family.

Memorial donations may be made to the Juvenile Arthritis Association, 264 South La Cienega Blvd., Suite 103, Beverly Hills, CA 90211.
