Gentry Wall Jenkins

Gentry Wall Jenkins, 86, formerly of Raleigh, died Monday, July 14, 2014, at Louisburg Nursing Center. He was born in Wake County, the son of the late Vera Margaret King Jenkins and Henry Wall Jenkins, and was married to Laney Beacham Jenkins, who preceded him in death. Mr. Jenkins was a retired evangelist and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon, July 17, 2014, at the Belhaven Town Cemetery in Belhaven.

Mr. Jenkins is survived by his sister, Evelyn Hamm of Wake Forest; niece and nephew, Terry and Russell Brinkley of Chesapeake, Va.; and niece, Cleo Krolowski of New Jersey.

Donald Melvin Keith

Donald Melvin Keith, 76, of Raleigh died Friday morning, July 11, 2014, at The William Dunlap Center for Caring. He was born in Wake County, the son of the late Connie and Mary Keith. Donald was retired from Coca-Cola Bottling Company and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon, July 13, 2014, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Jimmy Pulley officiating. Burial was in the Keith Family Cemetery with military honors.

Donald is survived by his son, David Keith and wife, Jennifer, of Franklinton; step-granddaughter, Samantha Wicks of Franklinton; nieces, Kerry Williams of Knightdale and Ellie Stephenson of Hillsborough; sisters, Joyce Gurley and Bobbie Lane; brother, Doug Keith; and step-sister, Minnie Ross. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy Keith, and by his son, Eddie Keith.

Pallbearers were Jeff Grainger, Mike Boyce, Claybon Ray, Ben Singleton, Larry Estes, and Scottie Davis.

John Melvin Meares Jr.

John Melvin Meares Jr., 80, of Wake Forest passed away Saturday, July 12, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on April 7, 1934, in Robeson County, the son of the late John M. Meares Sr. and Theadocia Jenkins Meares. Mr. Meares was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and was a retired Bindery Manager with Litho Industries.

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, July 16, 2014, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with the Rev. officiating. Burial was in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens with military honors.

Mr. Meares is survived by his children, John Melvin Meares III and wife, Sharon, of Hickory, Sam Hawkins of Versailles, Ken., Kerry Hawkins and wife, Sharon, of Franklinton and Joel Hawkins of Louisburg; sister, Joyce Boddie of Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren, Meredith Meares, Melissa Meares, Amanda Morris & husband, Chris, Jeffrey Meares, Sarah Meares, Caitlyn Hawkins and Christopher Hawkins; and great-grandchildren, Aedyn Baucom, Brennan Meares and Calvin Morris. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marguerite Wash Meares; son, George Timothy Meares; and sister, Etta Carol Meares.

James Marlon Cole

J. Marlon Cole, 99, of Wake Forest died Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at Wake Medical Center. He was born in Wake County, the son of the late James Walter Cole and Christian Idella McLean Cole, and was the long-time co-owner of Cole’s Grocery on North White Street in Wake Forest.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon, July 12, 2014, at Glen Royal Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Faile, the Rev. Philip Lyon and the Rev. Jesse Pimentel officiating.

Mr. Cole is survived by his nieces, Marcia Pearce, Betty Evans and Janie Weber; nephew, Walter Ervin Cole; great-nieces and nephews, Dianne Holmes, Anita Pearce, Grant and John Cole, Daniel Weber, Ivan, Erick and Scott Evans; great-great-nieces and nephews, Donald Ervin Pearce, Kristina and Russel Clark; and “grandson” Adam Stallings. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Alice, Mary, John B., Ervin, and Estelle Cole and Minnie Lee Mabry.
