Brenda N. Clancy

Apex

Brenda Sue Nowell Clancy, 61, of Apex, passed away Saturday evening.

Brenda was preceded in death by her father, Douglas H. Nowell. She owned her own cleaning business for 28 years and developed close friendships with her clients.

Brenda was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend.

Brenda is survived by the love of her life of 40 years, Mike Clancy; son and daughter-in-law, Preston and Kimberly Clancy; daughter and son-in-law, Ashton and Grant McBrayer; mother, Sue W. Nowell; brother, Rodney Nowell; granddaughters, Aven Anne Clancy and Kodie Jane Clancy; her faithful canine companion, Furman; aunts, uncles and many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.     

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday evening, February 15, 2024 at Clancy Strickland Wheeler Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1051 Durham Road, Wake Forest, NC. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, February 16, 2024 at Calvary Chapel Church, 1600 Center Street, Apex, NC. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park.  

The family would like to thank Dr. Sean Wang and the wonderful Oncology nurses and staff at Duke Cancer Center Cary, for the loving care given to Brenda.

Lance B. Grether

Wake Forest

Lance B. Grether, 72, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday morning, February 10, 2024, after living with Lewy Body Dementia for 14 years.  Born in Seven Hills, Ohio to the late Amelia Woznuk Grether and Arnott Grether – Lance was a lifelong hard worker, Ohio State fan and Jeeper.  

An Ohio State accounting graduate, Lance’s hard work ethic started long before college in his family’s landscaping business that he helped lead through his college years.  After college, Lance worked in accounting and IT/SAP at Glidden Durkee, Dow Chemical and then became a Sr. Executive at Accenture and Deloitte.  Lance leaves behind a legacy of love for his family, integrity, hard work ethic, and a heart of overflowing thankfulness. 

Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at Clancy Strickland Wheeler Funeral Home, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.

Lance is survived by his wife of 42 years, Gigi (Regina) McMahon Grether; sons Eric Grether and wife Danielle, Adam Grether and wife Anne, Curt Grether and wife Lauren, Michael Grether and wife Jaimi, Bryon Cipriani and daughter Niccole Cipriani; siblings Craig Grether and wife Kathy and Stacey Kubyn and husband Russell; and grandchildren Emily, Lauren, Gwen, Ethan, Allison, Aiden, Christian, Lillian, Elizabeth, Weston, and Victoria.

Lorrie Ann Jackson Simmons

Franklinton

Lorrie Ann Jackson Simmons, 60, of Franklinton, passed away on Sunday morning, February 4, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born on October 14, 1963, in Staunton, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carl Roy Simmons and her father Ronald “Ron” Jackson.

Lorrie’s world revolved around her family, and nothing brought her greater joy than being with her grandchildren. Her warm presence and unconditional love created a haven for her loved ones, and her absence will be deeply felt.

 Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 12, 2024 at Clancy Strickland Wheeler Funeral Home, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.

Lorrie is survived by her loving children, Nick Nance (Gretta) of Wake Forest and Christy Nance (Matthew Meschino) of Austin, TX; mother, Joan Tessier Jackson; grandchildren, Ty Handley, Addison Nance, Van Handley, Tenley Nance, and Cooper Simmons; sisters, Janet Yates of Zebulon and Judy Weller (Mike) of Raleigh, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Jack Wallace Chappell Sr.

Cary

Jack Wallace Chappell, Sr., 79, of Cary, passed away Sunday, February 4, 2024 at WakeMed Cary. Mr. Chappell was born on May 26, 1944, in Wake County to the late Jeff Chappell and Mary Elizabeth Lowrey Chappell.

Jack was a proud graduate of the class of 1962 at Cary High School. He dedicated 42 years to serving the community through his work at the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, retiring with honor and distinction. Beyond his professional endeavors, Jack was known for his athletic prowess, excelling as a football, baseball, and softball player. An unwavering fan of the Dodgers, he found great joy in sports.

A lover of travel, Jack delighted in exploring various destinations, with a special fondness for the mountains and Lancaster, Pennsylvania. His passion for music centered on the iconic Elvis Presley, whose tunes brought him much happiness. Yet, above all, Jack’s greatest joy stemmed from his devotion to his beloved family.

Mr. Chappell will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father, a cherished brother, and a loyal friend. He was a pillar of strength and support, known for his generosity and kindness. His legacy as a provider and protector will endure in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Friends may visit with the family from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, February 11, 2024 at Athens Drive Baptist Church, 1601 Athens Drive, Raleigh, followed by the funeral service at 2:30 p.m. Burial will follow at 4:30 p.m. in the Chalybeate Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, 238 Chalybeate Road, Fuquay-Varina.

Mr. Chappell is survived by his wife of 57 years, Donna Bordeaux Chappell; son, Jack W. Chappell, Jr. of Cary; brother, Brett Chappell & wife Donna of Fuquay-Varina; sister, Linda Jones of Clayton; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; his beloved companions, Bailey & Tataw. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy Chappell.

Edna Earle Montague Austin

Raleigh

Edna Earle Montague Austin, 86, died peacefully Sunday, February 4, 2024, at Rex Hospital.  She was born in Wake County on August 17, 1937, the daughter of the late Thaxton B. Montague and Elizabeth Watkins Montague.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Gene William Austin.

She was a lifelong resident of Raleigh, NC and a graduate of Broughton High School and Kings Business College.  She was employed by the State of North Carolina for over 25 years with Crime and Public Safety.  She loved her family and friends and Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

A graveside funeral service will be held 10:00 am Friday, February 9, 2024, at Montlawn Memorial Park, 2911 S. Wilmington St., Raleigh, with Reverend Andrea Rock officiating.

Edna is survived by her great nieces, Tracy Newton, Elizabeth Lorraine Blaylock; her closest friends, Susan Shearin, Mary Ellen McDonald, Martha Lewis and Tommy & Suzanne Austin.

Richard Edward ‘Rich’ Kendall II

Youngsville

Richard Edward “Rich” Kendall, II, was born in Niagara Falls, New York on May 22nd, 1965, to Richard and Jane Kendall. He passed in his home on February 7, 2024.

Rich’s legacy lives on through his sons Jason (Angelica) and Adam Kendall; grandsons Kai and Eli Kendall; brother Darren (Rosanne) Kendall; nieces Danielle and Marissa Kendall; as well as his partner Vicky Brazo. His love for them knew no bounds and he leaves behind a memorable mark on all their hearts.

Throughout his life, Rich found joy in the simple pleasures – fishing trips with Vicky that turned into lifelong memories and camping under the stars with loved ones by his side. He had a passion for nature that brought him peace and solace during difficult times.

Rich worked tirelessly to provide for his family and took great pride in his job. He was always willing to go above and beyond to help his colleagues and clients, earning him the respect of all who knew him.

Rich’s loss is felt deeply by his family, friends, and colleagues. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

A Memorial Service will be held at Bright Funeral Home (405 S. Main St.  Wake Forest, NC. 27587) on Saturday, February 17th at 11:00 a.m., Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., where family members and friends will gather to honor Rich’s life.

In our grief over losing such a wonderful soul too soon, we find comfort knowing that Rich is now at peace. Though he may no longer walk beside us here on earth, the love he shared continues to guide us through each day.

Mary Allen Walters

Wake Forest

Mary Allen Walters, 94, loving daughter of the late Otis Allen Sr. and Ethel Jones Allen, was born on January 16, 1930, in Wake County, North Carolina. She peacefully transitioned to eternal reward on February 7, 2024, at home.

In 1947, Mary married the late Willie Walters and from this union were born six children of which three proceeded her in death: two sons David L., Walters, Brian E. Walters, and a daughter Josephine D. Rogers.

Mary was a special and loving mother; she loved her children and family very much. Mary enjoyed sewing and cooking as a treasured past time along with nurturing family relationships.

Her church was especially important to her, she was actively involved in her church, she always prayed and supported her pastors, she also served as Women Ministries Director, Sunday School Teacher, and Care Group leader as well as a God-called minister and shared the love of God to those she met.

Mary was also a prayer warrior and lived a life consistent with her testimony. She has left an indelible impact upon the church community and all those who knew her. Mary was affectionately called by a loving family Grandma, Miss. Maye, Mighty Rebel, and Money-Money.

Mary leaves to cherish her memories, a son, Rev. Willie E. Walters (Mary), Raleigh, NC, two daughters, Janice W. Waden (Carl), Durham, NC, and Sharlene Walters Dunn, of the home.

She also leaves an Aunt Elsie Daye of Wake Forest, NC, two sisters Elsie Allen Edwards, Raleigh, NC and Annette Allen Dunston of Franklinton, NC., two brothers Bernice Allen (Lenora) Franklinton, NC., Elmo Allen (Arlinda) of Upper Marlboro, MD.

Also, she leaves sixteen grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family will receive friends on Monday, February 12, 2024 from 11-1:30 AM at Tell the Truth Ministries, 1860 N. White St. Wake Forest, NC 27587. A Celebration of Life and Legacy service will follow at 11:30 AM with Pastor J. Ricks Jr. and Rev. Dr. Carl Waden officiating. Burial will follow the service at Pine Forest Cemetery, 770 Stadium Dr. Wake Forest, NC 27587.
