Adam Kyle Allen

Creedmoor

Adam Kyle Allen (AKA Captain Peer Pressure), 44, of Creedmoor passed away Friday, December 8, 2023.  He was a long time resident of Franklin and Granville counties.

Adam lived his life to the fullest. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching his son play baseball, hanging out with the guys, the beach, collecting bourbon and tequila, sitting by the fire, listening to music, his dogs, and being a jokester. He loved his family and friends, but most of all he loved his wife and son. 

He is survived by his wife, Niki Allen of 18 years, his son, Michael Allen, his 3 dogs, Ava, Jace and Hunter, parents, Bruce and Wanda Allen, brother, Blake Allen, grandma, Roylene Wheeler, aunts, Kathy Wheeler and Pam Gurganus (Uncle Chet), great aunt, Rochelle Baker, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and his many friends who were family. 

He was proceeded in death by his late aunt, Deborah Wheeler, uncle, Rex Allen and granddaddy’s, Bruce Wheeler and Bruce Allen, Sr.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, December 13, 2023 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Bright Funeral Home.

John Jacob Singleton

Wake Forest

John Jacob Singleton passed away peacefully Friday morning, December 8th in Wake Forest, NC. He is predeceased by his wife, Elmina Black Singleton, parents, Edwin Sloan Singleton and Nollie Pressley Singleton and two sisters, Anne Singleton Hall of Huntsville, AL and Mary Singleton Bhore of Milwaukee, WI. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, John Robert Singleton and Nancy Forsyth Singleton of Wake Forest, NC, and grandson, Christopher Scott Singleton and his wife Jennifer Neufeld Singleton of Youngsville, NC.

John was a truly good man. His kindness and generosity was unwavering and his honesty guaranteed. His Christian faith sustained him throughout his 100 years. John served in WWII as a surgical nurse in the 62nd Portable Surgical Hospital in the Philippines, where he saw combat and helped to save many lives. His fellow soldiers came to rely on John as their ‘de facto’ chaplain.

Following WWII, John continued his military service in the Army Reserves and attended Clemson University and The Citadel. He joined the FDA as a field inspector, eventually becoming an assistant to the Deputy Director and was awarded a PhD in Chemistry. He retired from the Army Reserves in 1970 with the rank of Major specializing in hospital administration. He retired from the FDA in 1980 and moved to Barnwell, SC.

On December 22, 1951 John married Elmina (Mina) Black who was, in his words, “the most beautiful woman I have ever seen”. He and Mina spent many wonderful years on their five acres in Barnwell, SC. John will be deeply missed but his presence and influence on his son and daughter-in-law’s lives and the lives of those he touched is an everlasting gift.

A funeral service will be held Monday, December 11, 2023 at Youngsville Baptist Church with Rev. Charles D. Stratton, Jr. officiating.  Burial will be in Barnwell County Memory Gardens in Barnwell, SC date and time will be announced.

Marian Eddins Hicks

Rolesville

Marian Eddins Hicks, 87, of Rolesville, passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2023. She was born in Rolesville, the daughter of the late Lacy Scarborough Eddins and Harvey (Bo) Eddins. She was a life-long member of Rolesville Baptist Church where she was a member of the Adult Sanctuary Choir for many years. Marian was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class and of the WMU Group 6 for many years. She was a former member of Buffalo Lanes Bowling League and enjoyed walking, singing, bowling and dancing in her early years. Marian was a caregiver for her Aunt Linda until her death. She also enjoyed talking to her friends and going out to eat. Marian lived a life of joy, laughter, and always had a song in her heart. John 3:16 was her favorite verse in the Bible; “For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life”. She loved her Jesus Christ and believed in Him deeply. John 14:1-4 was also one of her favorite passages.

Funeral services will be held at 3 o’clock Monday afternoon, December 11, 2023 at Rolesville Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Randy Bridges officiating.

Marian was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Odell Hicks and is survived by her only child, Thomas Dale Hicks, of California, who she loved dearly. She is also survived by her sister, Alice Eddins Clark and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Hazel Eddins Hobbs.

Page M Cottier

Youngsville

Page M Cottier, of Youngsville, North Carolina, formerly of Monclova, Ohio, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 5, 2023, surrounded by family. She was 81.  Page was born on May 8, 1942 in Philadelphia Page, PA to Mark Mooney Jr, and Winifred Louise Mohr, who preceded her in death, along with her husband of 38 years, Geoffrey A Cottier, former husband Paul Whittenburg, sister, Joyce Mooney Allen, and son, Andrew Whittenburg.

Page is survived by her sons, Dan Cottier and Hans Whittenburg, daughter Page (Jose De León) Whittenburg, and granddaughter Sarah De León. 

Page graduated high school in Anne Arundel County, Maryland in 1960. She earned her fine arts degree at Schuler School of Fine Arts in Baltimore, Maryland.  Page was a brilliant artist for more than 60 years, working and studying in a variety of artistic media. While living in Annapolis Maryland, she worked in graphics and advertising. After relocating to Toledo, Ohio in 1979, she taught countless students, including many with special needs, in her own art studio.  In addition, she created several works for both her local church and the Village of Waterville, OH.  She had endless love for animals, rescued many cats and dogs, and helped several animal rescue agencies during her lifetime.  She was known for her kindness to everyone she encountered.

Karen Paulette ‘Polly’ Shipman Erwin

Willow Spring

The world changes from year to year, our lives change from day to day; but the love and memory of Paulette Erwin shall never pass away.  Paulette, age 73, went to be with her Eternal Father on December 5, 2023 after a brief illness, surrounded by family and friends. 

Paulette was born in Hendersonville, North Carolina.  She resided in Willow Spring, NC for the past 28 years.  She was a Paralegal for over 25 years and then worked for the North Carolina Department of Emergency Management from where she retired.  She was an active member of Wildwood Free Will Baptist Church in Garner, NC.  Paulette’s radiant smile brought joy to everyone, especially when she was serving the Lord.

A memorial service was held Saturday, December 9, 2023 at 1:00 P.M. at Wildwood Free Will Baptist Church, 5788 Cornwallis Road, Garner, NC with Pastor Terry Hardison officiating.  The family  received friends immediately following the service.  A private entombment was held at Pearce Baptist Church Columbarium in Zebulon.

Paulette was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Lois Shipman, sisters, Betty Barrow and Janice Shipman and a son, Kevin Carpenter. 

She is survived by her husband, Walter Erwin, daughter, Denise Pearce (Tony), son, Jeremy Carpenter (Kim Walker) and sister, Gloria Strickland.  She has six surviving grandchildren, Paul, Grace, Bryant, Zachary, Samantha and McCoy.

Caleb McArthur Wilkins

Wake Forest

Caleb McArthur Wilkins, 25, was born on August 10, 1998. He passed away at his parents’ home in Wake Forest NC on Friday, December 1, 2023.

Caleb grew up in Wake Forest and graduated from Wake Forest High School where he enjoyed playing lacrosse. Caleb’s intelligence and curiosity drove him to experience many different career paths where he built a wide variety of skills and friendships. 

Caleb is remembered as a loving and kind son. A young man who cared deeply for his family and friends. Caleb had a strong faith in the Lord and most recently was attending Baptist Grove Church in Raleigh NC. He was baptized and enjoyed fellowship in their congregation by attending the NFL Sunday Football Watch Parties and enjoyed playing tennis on Sunday nights with his church family.

One could not think of Caleb without a great appreciation for his love of the outdoors and being an avid salt and freshwater fisherman. He had a passion for healthy living, growing his own foods and using it in creative cooking recipes. Caleb also greatly enjoyed the family dogs and animals of any kind.

Caleb was predeceased by his grandparents, Joyce Wilkins, Ruby and Preston Cannon; an aunt, Jonlyn Wilkins. 

He is survived by his parents, Timothy (Tim) Wilkins and Dawn Wilkins; sister, Grace Wilkins; grandfather, John Wilkins; grandmother, Donna Cannon; aunts and uncles, Scott & Loretta Wilkins, Gary & DeLon Nelms, Owen & Debbie, and Tony Gordon. He is also survived by his cousins, Jake and McKenzie Wilkins, Ashley Williams (Ryan), Kristen Nelms, Matthew Nelms, Chris Andrews (Mary Hannah), Elliott Andrews (Sarah Jane), Kendall Andrews, and Carly Gordon. Caleb leaves his best furry friend, Juno (Peanut), in his parents’ care.

A memorial service will be held for Caleb at 12 PM on Saturday December 9, 2023, at Franklinton Baptist Church 102 W Mason St, Franklinton, NC 27525. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11-12 PM.
