George Donald Meyer Jr.

Raleigh

George Donald Meyer, Jr., 72, known affectionately to many as Don, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023, at his home in Raleigh, North Carolina. Don was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to the late George Donald Meyer and Mary Joan Normington Meyer. His life was a testament to dedication, service, and the love he shared with his family.

Prior to retirement, Don was an Education Program Manager with IBM, where he dedicated an incredible 40 years of his life to the betterment of the company. During his tenure at IBM, Don was given the opportunity to travel globally representing the company. Barb was able to join in many of these work adventures.

Before his remarkable career with IBM, Don was proud to have served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1972, including a tour in Vietnam. His time in the military instilled in him a sense of duty, honor, and camaraderie that he carried throughout his life.

At home, Don enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, and bird-watching with his four-legged companion Wrigley by his side. In retirement, Don and Barb traveled frequently between Raleigh, North Carolina and Rochester, Minnesota cherishing time spent with family and friends. Don was an avid history buff, he enjoyed all that was American history; books, documentaries, movies, and historical sites.

As a loving husband, father, proud grandfather, and brother, Don’s family was the centerpiece of his world. He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Barbara Rezabeck Meyer, and their daughters, Sarah May (Jeffrey) of Rochester, Minnesota, Emily Meyer (Rian) of Wake Forest, North Carolina, and Rebecca Senne (Thomas) of Rochester, Minnesota; grandchildren, Carter
May, Caleb May, Tobias Cascio, Elijah Cascio, Amelia Senne, Theo Senne, Vincent Senne, Neva Senne and Wade Senne; sisters, Mimi Gall (Steve) and Kathryn Beytien (Bradley) brothers, John Meyer and Timothy Meyer (Sandra.) Don’s circle of family also included his sisters-in-law, Catherine Rezabeck (Michael Goodwin), and Nancy Eckman (Rolland, deceased); brother-in-law John Rezabeck (Julia); along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

James ‘Hubert’ Jenks

Wake Forest

James “Hubert” Jenks, 79, passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus surrounded by his family on Wednesday, October 18th, 2023 in Raleigh, NC.  He was born on October 30th, 1943 in Wake Forest, NC.  He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

Hubert worked in the Fluid Power industry for numerous years, having faithfully served different companies. To say that Hubert will be missed is an understatement.  He possessed so many inspiring qualities, loved his Lord and Savior and devoted his life to teaching those around him about Jesus.  Hubert never met a stranger and always had a good joke or two up his sleeve.  He adored his family especially his wife Polly of 49 years; his son, Arnie Jenks; his daughter, Nicole Moore & husband Scott; the light of his life…his two grandchildren, Emmy and Cole Moore who called him “Pop Pop”.  To know Hubert was to know a faithful friend. He was a devoted member, deacon, and Sunday school teacher at Falls Baptist Church for over 40 years.  His love for Jesus was something to be admired and he has now met his Lord and Savior face to face. 

 Hubert is also survived by his sister, Sylvia Bigham & husband Kenneth; his nephew, Ronald Jenks who was like a brother & his wife Pat Jenks and numerous beloved nieces and nephews that he adored. He was preceded in death by his father, Vandoris Jenks and mother, Ethel Harrison and stepfather Jake Harrison; brothers, Demp Jenks & wife Bette, Max Jenks & wife Kathryn, Marvin Jenks and Harold Jenks: sisters, Margie King and Katherine Jenks.

Friends and family were invited to attend the services to pay their respects and celebrate Hubert’s life.

William Bland ‘Bill’ Ray, Esq.

Wake Forest

William Bland “Bill” Ray, Esq., 96, of Wake Forest, passed away, Monday morning, October 16, 2023. He was born in Wake County to the late Lola and Melvin Ray.  His journey was marked by a dedication to learning, service to his country, a successful legal career, and an unwavering commitment to his community.

Bill was a proud alumnus of Wake Forest College, where he achieved degrees in mathematics and earned a Juris Doctorate degree in law.

 During World War II, Bill selflessly served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1944, stationed in Lakehurst, New Jersey. His patriotic spirit and commitment to duty were evident in all aspects of his life.

 Following his military service, Mr. Ray worked with a private law practice, providing legal counsel and support to countless individuals. Later, he transitioned to a role with State Farm Insurance, where he served as an adjuster for many years, further showcasing his dedication to justice and fairness.

In his remarkable career, he also assumed the role of Assistant North Carolina Attorney General, where he upheld the principles of justice and law, leaving a lasting impact on the state’s legal landscape.

 Bill’s heart was deeply rooted in his community. He exemplified his passion for helping others by actively engaging in various community-oriented endeavors. As a lifelong member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church, he not only served as a deacon but also led the Royal Ambassadors and shared his wisdom as a Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts, instilling values and leadership in young minds.

 His commitment extended beyond the church doors as he coached the church league baseball team and the girls’ church league softball team. Community was not just a word to Bill; it was a way of life. His tireless efforts left an indelible mark on the lives he touched through his countless community activities.

 Bill will be deeply missed, not only by his family but by the many lives he enriched through his dedication, mentorship, and kindness. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations to be involved and caring citizens, exemplifying the values he held dear.

  A celebration of Mr. Ray’s life will be held at 11 o’clock, Friday morning, October 27, 2023 at Ridgecrest Baptist Church. A private burial was held in the church cemetery.

Mr. Ray is survived by his son, Dr. Larry Ray of Wake Forest; aunt, Nola Murray of Wake Forest; numerous cousins and extended family. He was preceded in death by his first wife Euphine Harrison Ray; second wife, Vivian Thompson Ray and a brother, J.M. Ray.

Jeremiah (Jerry) D. Rudd

Wake Forest

Jeremiah (Jerry) D. Ruddy, 66, of Wake Forest, NC, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023 surrounded by the love of his immediate family.

Jerry Ruddy was born in Utica, New York on November 9th, 1956, and most recently resided in Wake Forest, NC for the past 17 years. He had a passion for music, playing the drums and guitar, as well as singing. He loved listening to the Beatles, going to the beach, spending time with his family, and playing with his granddaughter, Adalynn.

Jerry worked in the organic grocery industry for over 35 years. He lived in New York, Florida, and North Carolina over the span of his life. He attended Mohawk Valley Community College earning an Associate of Arts degree in Business.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, in-law and friend.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jeremiah Edward Ruddy; and mother, Elizabeth Joseph Ruddy.

He is survived by his loving wife, Tracy Downing Ruddy; daughters, Taylor Ruddy Rickle (Bryan Rickle) and Victoria Downing Ruddy; granddaughter, Adalynn Tracy Rickle; sisters, Margaret Eva Ruddy, Virginia Elizabeth Ruddy; brother, Michael Owen Ruddy (Maureen); nephew, Jeremiah Ruddy; and niece, Amanda Ruddy.

Jo Ann Tippett Tilley

Jo Ann Tippett Tilley, 79, of Wake Forest, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2023. She was born in Wake County, the daughter of the late John and Josephine Tippett and was retired from the Administrative Office of the Courts for the State of North Carolina. Jo Ann was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church where she was known for her many faithful years being involved in children’s ministry. Jo Ann also loved gardening and keeping her yard in very pristine shape. She will be missed by her family and many friends and former co-workers.

Funeral Services will be held at 3 o’clock Sunday afternoon, October 22, 2023 at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Wake Forest Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 61 years, William Weldon Tilley, Sr.; sons, William Weldon Tilley, Jr. and wife, Theresa, of Wake Forest and Greg Duane Tilley of Wake Forest; sister, Diane Barbour and husband, Robert, of Raleigh; granddaughters, Elyse Nicole Tilley of San Diego, CA and Alyson Brooke Tilley of Wake Forest; sister-in-law, Elaine Kearney and husband, Larry, of Franklinton; niece, Michelle Bailey and nephews, Robbie Parrish and Joey Kearney. She will also be missed by her beloved Granddog Reesie.

Helen Montague Wadford

Louisburg

Helen Montague Wadford, 67, of 321 Normandy Road, left this earthly life and entered into her eternal life in Heaven with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, after an extended illness.

She was born April 26, 1956 in Raleigh, NC, the daughter of the late Pete and Frances Montague. She spent her adult life working in the paper/packaging industry in accounting and as an executive general manager until retiring in 2012.

She was raised in Raleigh and completed her high school education at Millbrook High School, where she actively participated as a majorette during her high school journey.

She met the love of her life, Ricky, and they married February 4, 1978 and have been together hand in hand ever since. Their love for each other has been evident and an example throughout their marriage. They have enjoyed 45 years of marriage together loving God, loving one another, loving family, and loving people.

She served her church and her community over the years in ways too numerous to mention, fulfilling her love for being a servant for Jesus. She was Minister of Music at two different churches for over 30 years. Over half of those serving at her current church, Calvary’s Cross Baptist Church in Louisburg, where she served faithfully up until her recent battles would not allow. Her love for singing and powerful voice reached many as she sang with the Gospel group, Firm Foundation for many years in churches, gospel singing events and family and friends memorial services. She enjoyed sharing her talent at the request of others at numerous weddings and special occasions/events. She enjoyed hosting personal events, directing and/or participating in various children’s ministries such as Vacation Bible School, camps, AWANA, Operation Christmas Child, and Belarussian Children’s Ministry. She enjoyed participating in events with Samaritan’s Purse projects. She volunteered her time with Franklin County as Guardian ad litem for several years, protecting the interests of those (minors) who are unable to take care of themselves. She hosted families from Belarus for numerous years and was instrumental in providing for them a better life here in America. She was “Mimi” to countless children and adults alike. An earthly angel, gracious servant, and everlasting friend to all in every way. “She Loved” with all of her heart.

She later became a spokesperson for the lung cancer community for over 11 years when diagnosed in August 2012. She participated in fundraisers, events, and sharing her story with many to encourage and support their journey.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Peter Paul Montague Sr. and Helen Frances Montague.

Helen is survived by her husband of 45 years, Ricky; her daughter, Tina (Greg) Smith of Louisburg; step-son, Chris Wadford of Youngsville; her brother, Paul (Pam) Montague of Youngsville; her grandchildren, Megan (Ashley) Conrad, Dillon (Hannah) Sykora, and Shelby Sykora; by her great-grandchildren, Brady Dillon Sykora, Jaxson Scott Sykora, and the soon to be born Kennedy Helen Sykora, to be carried as a memorial to “Mimi”.

She is also survived by her God-Children, Paige Cashwell and Tyler Melton.

She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.

Visitation with the family will take place at 5pm-8pm on Wednesday, October 25th at Bright Funeral Home, 405 S. Main Street, Wake Forest, NC 27587.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2 O’clock, in the afternoon, Thursday, October 26th, 2023, at Richland Creek Community Church, 3229 Burlington Mills Road, Wake Forest, NC 27587. Burial will immediately follow at Pine Forest Memorial Gardens in Wake Forest.

Clayborne Gilliam, 93, of Louisburg, NC, passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2023.

We say goodbye to a remarkable man and brick mason who was more than just a master of his trade; he was a master of life. We celebrate his life, his hard work, his love, and his lasting impact on us all. He will forever be in our hearts, and the structures he built will stand as a tribute to his legacy. He taught us many things and gave of himself, more than he will ever know.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, he was a humble, family man. 

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ann Gilliam; son, Ronnie Gilliam; and son-in-law, Kenny Chappell. 

He leaves behind his children, Ricky Gilliam (Edith), Jackie Chappell, Sherry Waddell (Rodney), Wayne Gilliam (Rochelle), Johnny Gilliam (Amanda), and Dawn Qualley (Steven); grandchildren, Michael Gilliam (Kim), Grant Gilliam (Heather), Chris Waddell (Heather), Leslie Chappell, Kevin Chappell (Lis), Heather Qualley, Joshua Qualley, Aria Qualley, Siri Qualley, and Grayson Gilliam; great-grandchildren, Alex Gilliam, Ryan Gilliam, Damian Gilliam, Will Gilliam, Ava Gilliam, Noah Chappell, Jordan Padelford, Paisley Waddell, Savannah Padelford, Hayden Padelford, and Crew Waddell; and special friends, Nellie Shearin and Lewis Rene Evans.

He cherished those close to him. He was not just a Daddy or Granddaddy, but a mentor who instilled in his children and grandchildren the values of hard work, integrity, and the importance of pursuing one’s dreams. His legacy lives on in them, the memories they share, the laughter they remember, and the lessons they’ve learned.

Let us remember the lessons he taught us, the value of hard work, the importance of family and friendship, and the power of a warm smile to bridge the gaps between us. Let us honor his memory by carrying these lessons forward in our own lives.

Albert Charles Burks

Albert Charles Burks, 68, of Wake Forest, NC, passed away on Monday, October 16, 2023.

Albert was born on January 4, 1955 in West Virginia. He was the Materials Manager for 25 years at Genesys Hospital in Flint, MI, and worked for 20 years as a Senior Consultant for Premier. In his free time he enjoyed fishing, camping, sports, and poker nights with his friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Edna Burks.

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Susan Burks; brother-in-law, Steven (Susan) Carpenter; uncle, Curtis Burks; niece, Hannah Hunt; nephew, Jacob Carpenter; and great nephew, Remi Hunt.

Ronald (Ron) Hudgins

Louisburg

Ronald (Ron) Hudgins, 86, of Louisburg, North Carolina passed away peacefully at home on Saturday October 16, 2023.

Ron was born on July 20, 1937 in Charlotte, NC. He was the youngest of six brothers and three sisters. Ron lost his parents at the age of 4. Ron and three of his brothers were raised in the Barum Springs Orphanage until he graduated high school. After graduation Ron married Marie Johnston and lived in Raleigh with their three sons. He served in the U.S. Army receiving an honorable discharge. Ron worked in Finance and Sales until his retirement.

Although losing both his parents at age 4, Ron would say that being raised and growing up at Barium Springs was the adventure of a lifetime, he enjoyed his time at Barium Springs, participating in sports and loved to share with others, the fond memories of his time at Barium Springs. Ron was very active in the Barium Spring Alumni Association, he participated in the Barium Springs Alumni association all his adult life, serving in many leadership roles include President of the Alumni Association. He regularly attended the annual Alumni reunions, maintaining lifelong friendships with the staff, and men & women who were also raised at Barium Springs. 

Ron was married to Esta Hudgins until her passing in 2014. Ron and Esta enjoyed life with each other, living in the Youngsville community. They were both active members of Flat Rock Baptist Church.

Ron loved landscaping and working in his yard. He was never one to sit around, always active, and always on the go. Ron lived life fully and optimistically. He loved the Lord, fully trusting in Jesus as his savior. He loved his church family and was always there to serve in any way needed.  He was kind and generous to his entire family both his immediate and extended family.

Ron is survived by his sons, Rodney Hudgins (wife Lynda), Joseph Hudgins (Kathy), Charles Hudgins (wife Wanda) and grandchildren, Brandy Hudgins-Dickerson, Alex Hudgins, Jonathan Hudgins, & Jason Barker.

Memorial contributions / donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Flat Rock Baptist Church, 1529 Flat Rock Church Road, Louisburg, NC 27549.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at 1:00pm at Flat Rock Baptist Church, 1529 Flat Rock Church Road, Louisburg, NC 27549. Burial at the church cemetery will immediately follow the service, concluding with a reception at the Church Fellowship Hall.

Diane M. Kondichook

Diane M. Kondichook (Nugent), 81, passed peacefully surrounded by her husband of 62 years, Jack, her loving son, John, and her daughter in law Staci on Monday, October 16, 2023. 

Diane is survived by her beloved grandchildren, Alec, Nicholas, and Krystina, brother Bernard Nugent, Jr, sister-in-law, Marci, sister-in-law, Jeanne Kondichook, and many nieces, nephews – all of whom loved Diane beyond measure.

Lynnfield, MA was the hometown of Diane’s childhood, much of her adult life she lived in Peabody, MA and during her retirement, home was Raleigh, North Carolina.

Diane had many careers over the years, retiring from Salem State College.  Diane was a fierce advocate for animals, active in many animal shelters, programs, and supported many charities for animals.  Gardening was her passion – Diane was either tending to her plants and trees or she was out getting more to fill out her yard.

There will be a funeral Mass at St John the Baptist, Peabody on Saturday, November 4, 2023, burial will be private.

Robert (Bob) Paul Gani

Robert (Bob) Paul Gani, 86, of Raleigh, NC passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 12th surrounded by his family. He was born October 18th, 1936 in Cairo, Egypt to the late Paul and Esther Gani. He is also preceded in death by his older brother, Roland Gani. 

Bob grew up in Cairo until the age of 18 when he and his family immigrated to Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was here that he met Sylvia, his wife of almost fifty years. Bob had a love of travel and culture so much that he dedicated his life to helping others explore the world. Creating adventures and memories for many, he and Sylvia owned several travel agencies both in Toronto and in Raleigh. Bob was a member of the Anglican Church in which he enjoyed serving as a lectern reader and head of the hospitality team, sharing his love of food and cooking . He was a natural storyteller, speaking of his experiences with charisma and joy. Bob spoke several languages including French, Arabic, and Italian, often switching from one to another mid-story. 

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia of Raleigh, NC;  five sons, John Gani of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Andrew Gani (Kristin) of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Aaron Gani (Kathy) of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Christian Gani (Meghin) of Erie, Colorado, Benjamin Gani (Cynthia) of Raleigh, North Carolina and his only daughter, Jessie Hrivnak (Michael) of Raleigh, North Carolina, his brother Patrick Gani (Hope) of Toronto, Ontario, his eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. 

Funeral service and reception will be held Saturday, October 28th at 2pm at Church of the Apostles in Raleigh. We invite family, friends, and all those whose life was touched by Bob to celebrate him with love.

Richard Eugene Cramer

Richard Eugene Cramer, 86, of Wake Forest, NC, passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2021.

Richard was born in Washington, D.C. He graduated Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, MD. He worked for the Bell Telephone Company and later became a realtor for 30 years. He was active in The Lions Club for many years. He and his wife Janice moved to Wake Forest in 2006 and thoroughly loved the area. He enjoyed traveling and his hobbies were playing on the computer, playing “Mr. Fix It” but most of all his dogs.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Arnold Cramer.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Janice Cramer; four children, Stephen (April) Cramer, Gettysburg, MD; Donna (Kevin) Hickey, Arnold, MD; Erik (Lisa) Philpot, Salt Lake City, UT; and Colin (Irena) Philpot, Boise, ID; 11 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.

Karen Darlene (Marston) Morgan

Karen Darlene (Marston) Morgan passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 in Raleigh, NC, surrounded by her loving family; brother, Theodore (Joyce) Marston, of Rochester, NY; and three nieces, Kimberly Lillie, of Rochester, NY; Vicki (David) Norris, of Raleigh, NC; and Anne Marston, of Raleigh, NC.

Karen was born on March 29, 1944 in Springville, NY, to Theodore and Inez (Parsons) Marston. She attended William Smith College where she studied psychology, and, a few years later, received a master’s degree in psychology from the University of Buffalo. Karen worked in rehabilitation and counseling. Karen was most proud of her time at Roswell Park Cancer Center where she worked with patients and their loved ones.

Karen was married to Harland “Mark” Morgan Jr. (deceased) in the Spring of 1982 and was stepmother to Mark Allen Morgan of Fairmont, NE, Lori (Carey) Howard of Tipton, Iowa, and Kerri (Randy) Olsen. She was a proud grandmother to Andrea (Steve) Smith, Tricia (Cory) Coobs, Cassie Howard, Clay (Rebekah) Howard, Dani (Jacob) Koch, Zachary (Kristine) Kuhnke, Brandon (Polly) Kuhnke, Jamie (Jim) Pinkelman, Kellie Allen, great-grandmother to 24, and great-great-grandmother to one child.

Karen was also a loving great-aunt to Benjamin, Rachel, Philip Norris (Vicki Norris), and Alexa Knapp (Kimberly Lillie); and great-great-aunt to Alexa’s son, Ezekiel.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; stepdaughter, Kerri Olsen; and step-granddaughter, Kellie Allen.

Karen brought light and joy into many lives and her presence will be deeply missed. Karen was known for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for her family and cherished friends. She was a source of strength and support, always there to lend an ear, offer guidance, and share in our joys and sorrows.

She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, quilting, flower gardening, bird watching, and spiritual growth. Karen was a lover of animals, especially dogs.

George Donald Meyer Jr.

George Donald Meyer, Jr., 72, known affectionately to many as Don, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023, at his home in Raleigh, North Carolina. Don was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to the late George Donald Meyer and Mary Joan Normington Meyer. His life was a testament to dedication, service, and the love he shared with his family.

Prior to retirement, Don was an Education Program Manager with IBM, where he dedicated an incredible 40 years of his life to the betterment of the company. During his tenure at IBM, Don was given the opportunity to travel globally representing the company. Barb was able to join in many of these work adventures.

Before his remarkable career with IBM, Don was proud to have served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1972, including a tour in Vietnam. His time in the military instilled in him a sense of duty, honor, and camaraderie that he carried throughout his life.

At home, Don enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, and bird-watching with his four-legged companion Wrigley by his side. In retirement, Don and Barb traveled frequently between Raleigh, North Carolina and Rochester, Minnesota cherishing time spent with family and friends. Don was an avid history buff, he enjoyed all that was American history; books, documentaries, movies, and historical sites.

As a loving husband, father, proud grandfather, and brother, Don’s family was the centerpiece of his world. He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Barbara Rezabeck Meyer, and their daughters, Sarah May (Jeffrey) of Rochester, Minnesota, Emily Meyer (Rian) of Wake Forest, North Carolina, and Rebecca Senne (Thomas) of Rochester, Minnesota; grandchildren, Carter May, Caleb May, Tobias Cascio, Elijah Cascio, Amelia Senne, Theo Senne, Vincent Senne, Neva Senne and Wade Senne; sisters, Mimi Gall (Steve) and Kathryn Beytien (Bradley) brothers, John Meyer and Timothy Meyer (Sandra.) Don’s circle of family also included his sisters-in-law, Catherine Rezabeck (Michael Goodwin), and Nancy Eckman (Rolland, deceased); brother-in-law John Rezabeck (Julia); along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

James ‘Hubert’ Jenks

James “Hubert” Jenks, 79, passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus surrounded by his family on Wednesday, October 18th, 2023 in Raleigh, NC.  He was born on October 30th, 1943 in Wake Forest, NC.  He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

Hubert worked in the Fluid Power industry for numerous years, having faithfully served different companies. To say that Hubert will be missed is an understatement.  He possessed so many inspiring qualities, loved his Lord and Savior and devoted his life to teaching those around him about Jesus.  Hubert never met a stranger and always had a good joke or two up his sleeve.  He adored his family especially his wife Polly of 49 years; his son, Arnie Jenks; his daughter, Nicole Moore & husband Scott; the light of his life…his two grandchildren, Emmy and Cole Moore who called him “Pop Pop”.  To know Hubert was to know a faithful friend. He was a devoted member, deacon, and Sunday school teacher at Falls Baptist Church for over 40 years.  His love for Jesus was something to be admired and he has now met his Lord and Savior face to face. 

 Hubert is also survived by his sister, Sylvia Bigham & husband Kenneth; his nephew, Ronald Jenks who was like a brother & his wife Pat Jenks and numerous beloved nieces and nephews that he adored. He was preceded in death by his father, Vandoris Jenks and mother, Ethel Harrison and stepfather Jake Harrison; brothers, Demp Jenks & wife Bette, Max Jenks & wife Kathryn, Marvin Jenks and Harold Jenks: sisters, Margie King and Katherine Jenks.

William Bland ‘Bill’ Ray, Esq.

William Bland “Bill” Ray, Esq., 96, of Wake Forest, passed away, Monday morning, October 16, 2023. He was born in Wake County to the late Lola and Melvin Ray.  His journey was marked by a dedication to learning, service to his country, a successful legal career, and an unwavering commitment to his community.

Bill was a proud alumnus of Wake Forest College, where he achieved degrees in mathematics and earned a Juris Doctorate degree in law.

 During World War II, Bill selflessly served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1944, stationed in Lakehurst, New Jersey. His patriotic spirit and commitment to duty were evident in all aspects of his life.

 Following his military service, Mr. Ray worked with a private law practice, providing legal counsel and support to countless individuals. Later, he transitioned to a role with State Farm Insurance, where he served as an adjuster for many years, further showcasing his dedication to justice and fairness.

In his remarkable career, he also assumed the role of Assistant North Carolina Attorney General, where he upheld the principles of justice and law, leaving a lasting impact on the state’s legal landscape.

 Bill’s heart was deeply rooted in his community. He exemplified his passion for helping others by actively engaging in various community-oriented endeavors. As a lifelong member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church, he not only served as a deacon but also led the Royal Ambassadors and shared his wisdom as a Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts, instilling values and leadership in young minds.

 His commitment extended beyond the church doors as he coached the church league baseball team and the girls’ church league softball team. Community was not just a word to Bill; it was a way of life. His tireless efforts left an indelible mark on the lives he touched through his countless community activities.

 Bill will be deeply missed, not only by his family but by the many lives he enriched through his dedication, mentorship, and kindness. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations to be involved and caring citizens, exemplifying the values he held dear.

  A celebration of Mr. Ray’s life will be held at 11 o’clock, Friday morning, October 27, 2023 at Ridgecrest Baptist Church. A private burial was held in the church cemetery.

Mr. Ray is survived by his son, Dr. Larry Ray of Wake Forest; aunt, Nola Murray of Wake Forest; numerous cousins and extended family. He was preceded in death by his first wife Euphine Harrison Ray; second wife, Vivian Thompson Ray and a brother, J.M. Ray.

Jeremiah (Jerry) D. Ruddy, 66, of Wake Forest, NC, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023 surrounded by the love of his immediate family.

Jerry Ruddy was born in Utica, New York on November 9th, 1956, and most recently resided in Wake Forest, NC for the past 17 years. He had a passion for music, playing the drums and guitar, as well as singing. He loved listening to the Beatles, going to the beach, spending time with his family, and playing with his granddaughter, Adalynn.

Jerry worked in the organic grocery industry for over 35 years. He lived in New York, Florida, and North Carolina over the span of his life. He attended Mohawk Valley Community College earning an Associate of Arts degree in Business.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, in-law and friend.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jeremiah Edward Ruddy; and mother, Elizabeth Joseph Ruddy.

Jo Ann Tippett Tilley, 79, of Wake Forest, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2023. She was born in Wake County, the daughter of the late John and Josephine Tippett and was retired from the Administrative Office of the Courts for the State of North Carolina. Jo Ann was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church where she was known for her many faithful years being involved in children’s ministry. Jo Ann also loved gardening and keeping her yard in very pristine shape. She will be missed by her family and many friends and former co-workers.

Funeral Services will be held at 3 o’clock Sunday afternoon, October 22, 2023 at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Wake Forest Cemetery.

Helen Montague Wadford

Helen Montague Wadford, 67, of 321 Normandy Road, left this earthly life and entered into her eternal life in Heaven with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, after an extended illness.

She was born April 26, 1956 in Raleigh, NC, the daughter of the late Pete and Frances Montague. She spent her adult life working in the paper/packaging industry in accounting and as an executive general manager until retiring in 2012.

She was raised in Raleigh and completed her high school education at Millbrook High School, where she actively participated as a majorette during her high school journey.

She met the love of her life, Ricky, and they married February 4, 1978 and have been together hand in hand ever since. Their love for each other has been evident and an example throughout their marriage. They have enjoyed 45 years of marriage together loving God, loving one another, loving family, and loving people.

She served her church and her community over the years in ways too numerous to mention, fulfilling her love for being a servant for Jesus. She was Minister of Music at two different churches for over 30 years. Over half of those serving at her current church, Calvary’s Cross Baptist Church in Louisburg, where she served faithfully up until her recent battles would not allow. Her love for singing and powerful voice reached many as she sang with the Gospel group, Firm Foundation for many years in churches, gospel singing events and family and friends memorial services. She enjoyed sharing her talent at the request of others at numerous weddings and special occasions/events. She enjoyed hosting personal events, directing and/or participating in various children’s ministries such as Vacation Bible School, camps, AWANA, Operation Christmas Child, and Belarussian Children’s Ministry. She enjoyed participating in events with Samaritan’s Purse projects. She volunteered her time with Franklin County as Guardian ad litem for several years, protecting the interests of those (minors) who are unable to take care of themselves. She hosted families from Belarus for numerous years and was instrumental in providing for them a better life here in America. She was “Mimi” to countless children and adults alike. An earthly angel, gracious servant, and everlasting friend to all in every way. “She Loved” with all of her heart.

She later became a spokesperson for the lung cancer community for over 11 years when diagnosed in August 2012. She participated in fundraisers, events, and sharing her story with many to encourage and support their journey.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Peter Paul Montague Sr. and Helen Frances Montague.

Helen is survived by her husband of 45 years, Ricky; her daughter, Tina (Greg) Smith of Louisburg; step-son, Chris Wadford of Youngsville; her brother, Paul (Pam) Montague of Youngsville; her grandchildren, Megan (Ashley) Conrad, Dillon (Hannah) Sykora, and Shelby Sykora; by her great-grandchildren, Brady Dillon Sykora, Jaxson Scott Sykora, and the soon to be born Kennedy Helen Sykora, to be carried as a memorial to “Mimi”.

She is also survived by her God-Children, Paige Cashwell and Tyler Melton.

She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.

Visitation with the family will take place at 5pm-8pm on Wednesday, October 25th at Bright Funeral Home, 405 S. Main Street, Wake Forest, NC 27587.

Clayborne Gilliam, 93, of Louisburg, NC, passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2023.

We say goodbye to a remarkable man and brick mason who was more than just a master of his trade; he was a master of life. We celebrate his life, his hard work, his love, and his lasting impact on us all. He will forever be in our hearts, and the structures he built will stand as a tribute to his legacy. He taught us many things and gave of himself, more than he will ever know.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, he was a humble, family man. 

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ann Gilliam; son, Ronnie Gilliam; and son-in-law, Kenny Chappell. 

He leaves behind his children, Ricky Gilliam (Edith), Jackie Chappell, Sherry Waddell (Rodney), Wayne Gilliam (Rochelle), Johnny Gilliam (Amanda), and Dawn Qualley (Steven); grandchildren, Michael Gilliam (Kim), Grant Gilliam (Heather), Chris Waddell (Heather), Leslie Chappell, Kevin Chappell (Lis), Heather Qualley, Joshua Qualley, Aria Qualley, Siri Qualley, and Grayson Gilliam; great-grandchildren, Alex Gilliam, Ryan Gilliam, Damian Gilliam, Will Gilliam, Ava Gilliam, Noah Chappell, Jordan Padelford, Paisley Waddell, Savannah Padelford, Hayden Padelford, and Crew Waddell; and special friends, Nellie Shearin and Lewis Rene Evans.

He cherished those close to him. He was not just a Daddy or Granddaddy, but a mentor who instilled in his children and grandchildren the values of hard work, integrity, and the importance of pursuing one’s dreams. His legacy lives on in them, the memories they share, the laughter they remember, and the lessons they’ve learned.

Albert was born on January 4, 1955 in West Virginia. He was the Materials Manager for 25 years at Genesys Hospital in Flint, MI, and worked for 20 years as a Senior Consultant for Premier. In his free time he enjoyed fishing, camping, sports, and poker nights with his friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Edna Burks.

Ronald (Ron) Hudgins

Ronald (Ron) Hudgins, 86, of Louisburg, North Carolina passed away peacefully at home on Saturday October 16, 2023.

Ron was born on July 20, 1937 in Charlotte, NC. He was the youngest of six brothers and three sisters. Ron lost his parents at the age of 4. Ron and three of his brothers were raised in the Barum Springs Orphanage until he graduated high school. After graduation Ron married Marie Johnston and lived in Raleigh with their three sons. He served in the U.S. Army receiving an honorable discharge. Ron worked in Finance and Sales until his retirement.

Although losing both his parents at age 4, Ron would say that being raised and growing up at Barium Springs was the adventure of a lifetime, he enjoyed his time at Barium Springs, participating in sports and loved to share with others, the fond memories of his time at Barium Springs. Ron was very active in the Barium Spring Alumni Association, he participated in the Barium Springs Alumni association all his adult life, serving in many leadership roles include President of the Alumni Association. He regularly attended the annual Alumni reunions, maintaining lifelong friendships with the staff, and men & women who were also raised at Barium Springs. 

Ron was married to Esta Hudgins until her passing in 2014. Ron and Esta enjoyed life with each other, living in the Youngsville community. They were both active members of Flat Rock Baptist Church.

Ron loved landscaping and working in his yard. He was never one to sit around, always active, and always on the go. Ron lived life fully and optimistically. He loved the Lord, fully trusting in Jesus as his savior. He loved his church family and was always there to serve in any way needed.  He was kind and generous to his entire family both his immediate and extended family.

Ron is survived by his sons, Rodney Hudgins (wife Lynda), Joseph Hudgins (Kathy), Charles Hudgins (wife Wanda) and grandchildren, Brandy Hudgins-Dickerson, Alex Hudgins, Jonathan Hudgins, & Jason Barker.

Diane M. Kondichook (Nugent), 81, passed peacefully surrounded by her husband of 62 years, Jack, her loving son, John, and her daughter in law Staci on Monday, October 16, 2023. 

Diane is survived by her beloved grandchildren, Alec, Nicholas, and Krystina, brother Bernard Nugent, Jr, sister-in-law, Marci, sister-in-law, Jeanne Kondichook, and many nieces, nephews – all of whom loved Diane beyond measure. Lynnfield, MA was the hometown of Diane’s childhood, much of her adult life she lived in Peabody, MA and during her retirement, home was Raleigh, North Carolina. Diane had many careers over the years, retiring from Salem State College.  Diane was a fierce advocate for animals, active in many animal shelters, programs, and supported many charities for animals.  Gardening was her passion – Diane was either tending to her plants and trees or she was out getting more to fill out her yard. There will be a funeral Mass at St John the Baptist, Peabody on Saturday, November 4, 2023, burial will be private.

Robert (Bob) Paul Gani

Robert (Bob) Paul Gani, 86, of Raleigh, NC passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 12th surrounded by his family. He was born October 18th, 1936 in Cairo, Egypt to the late Paul and Esther Gani. He is also preceded in death by his older brother, Roland Gani. 

Bob grew up in Cairo until the age of 18 when he and his family immigrated to Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was here that he met Sylvia, his wife of almost fifty years. Bob had a love of travel and culture so much that he dedicated his life to helping others explore the world. Creating adventures and memories for many, he and Sylvia owned several travel agencies both in Toronto and in Raleigh. Bob was a member of the Anglican Church in which he enjoyed serving as a lectern reader and head of the hospitality team, sharing his love of food and cooking . He was a natural storyteller, speaking of his experiences with charisma and joy. Bob spoke several languages including French, Arabic, and Italian, often switching from one to another mid-story. 

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia of Raleigh, NC;  five sons, John Gani of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Andrew Gani (Kristin) of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Aaron Gani (Kathy) of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Christian Gani (Meghin) of Erie, Colorado, Benjamin Gani (Cynthia) of Raleigh, North Carolina and his only daughter, Jessie Hrivnak (Michael) of Raleigh, North Carolina, his brother Patrick Gani (Hope) of Toronto, Ontario, his eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. 

Funeral service and reception will be held Saturday, October 28th at 2pm at Church of the Apostles in Raleigh. We invite family, friends, and all those whose life was touched by Bob to celebrate him with love.

Richard Eugene Cramer

Richard Eugene Cramer, 86, of Wake Forest, NC, passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2021.

Richard was born in Washington, D.C. He graduated Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, MD. He worked for the Bell Telephone Company and later became a realtor for 30 years. He was active in The Lions Club for many years. He and his wife Janice moved to Wake Forest in 2006 and thoroughly loved the area. He enjoyed traveling and his hobbies were playing on the computer, playing “Mr. Fix It” but most of all his dogs.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Arnold Cramer.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Janice Cramer; four children, Stephen (April) Cramer, Gettysburg, MD; Donna (Kevin) Hickey, Arnold, MD; Erik (Lisa) Philpot, Salt Lake City, UT; and Colin (Irena) Philpot, Boise, ID; 11 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.

Karen Darlene (Marston) Morgan

Raleigh

Karen Darlene (Marston) Morgan passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 in Raleigh, NC, surrounded by her loving family; brother, Theodore (Joyce) Marston, of Rochester, NY; and three nieces, Kimberly Lillie, of Rochester, NY; Vicki (David) Norris, of Raleigh, NC; and Anne Marston, of Raleigh, NC.

Karen was born on March 29, 1944 in Springville, NY, to Theodore and Inez (Parsons) Marston. She attended William Smith College where she studied psychology, and, a few years later, received a master’s degree in psychology from the University of Buffalo. Karen worked in rehabilitation and counseling. Karen was most proud of her time at Roswell Park Cancer Center where she worked with patients and their loved ones.

Karen was married to Harland “Mark” Morgan Jr. (deceased) in the Spring of 1982 and was stepmother to Mark Allen Morgan of Fairmont, NE, Lori (Carey) Howard of Tipton, Iowa, and Kerri (Randy) Olsen. She was a proud grandmother to Andrea (Steve) Smith, Tricia (Cory) Coobs, Cassie Howard, Clay (Rebekah) Howard, Dani (Jacob) Koch, Zachary (Kristine) Kuhnke, Brandon (Polly) Kuhnke, Jamie (Jim) Pinkelman, Kellie Allen, great-grandmother to 24, and great-great-grandmother to one child.

Karen was also a loving great-aunt to Benjamin, Rachel, Philip Norris (Vicki Norris), and Alexa Knapp (Kimberly Lillie); and great-great-aunt to Alexa’s son, Ezekiel.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; stepdaughter, Kerri Olsen; and step-granddaughter, Kellie Allen.

Karen brought light and joy into many lives and her presence will be deeply missed. Karen was known for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for her family and cherished friends. She was a source of strength and support, always there to lend an ear, offer guidance, and share in our joys and sorrows.

She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, quilting, flower gardening, bird watching, and spiritual growth. Karen was a lover of animals, especially dogs.

George Donald Meyer Jr.

Raleigh

George Donald Meyer, Jr., 72, known affectionately to many as Don, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023, at his home in Raleigh, North Carolina. Don was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to the late George Donald Meyer and Mary Joan Normington Meyer. His life was a testament to dedication, service, and the love he shared with his family.

Prior to retirement, Don was an Education Program Manager with IBM, where he dedicated an incredible 40 years of his life to the betterment of the company. During his tenure at IBM, Don was given the opportunity to travel globally representing the company. Barb was able to join in many of these work adventures.

Before his remarkable career with IBM, Don was proud to have served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1972, including a tour in Vietnam. His time in the military instilled in him a sense of duty, honor, and camaraderie that he carried throughout his life.

At home, Don enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, and bird-watching with his four-legged companion Wrigley by his side. In retirement, Don and Barb traveled frequently between Raleigh, North Carolina and Rochester, Minnesota cherishing time spent with family and friends. Don was an avid history buff, he enjoyed all that was American history; books, documentaries, movies, and historical sites.

As a loving husband, father, proud grandfather, and brother, Don’s family was the centerpiece of his world. He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Barbara Rezabeck Meyer, and their daughters, Sarah May (Jeffrey) of Rochester, Minnesota, Emily Meyer (Rian) of Wake Forest, North Carolina, and Rebecca Senne (Thomas) of Rochester, Minnesota; grandchildren, Carter
May, Caleb May, Tobias Cascio, Elijah Cascio, Amelia Senne, Theo Senne, Vincent Senne, Neva Senne and Wade Senne; sisters, Mimi Gall (Steve) and Kathryn Beytien (Bradley) brothers, John Meyer and Timothy Meyer (Sandra.) Don’s circle of family also included his sisters-in-law, Catherine Rezabeck (Michael Goodwin), and Nancy Eckman (Rolland, deceased); brother-in-law John Rezabeck (Julia); along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

James ‘Hubert’ Jenks

Wake Forest

James “Hubert” Jenks, 79, passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus surrounded by his family on Wednesday, October 18th, 2023 in Raleigh, NC.  He was born on October 30th, 1943 in Wake Forest, NC.  He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

Hubert worked in the Fluid Power industry for numerous years, having faithfully served different companies. To say that Hubert will be missed is an understatement.  He possessed so many inspiring qualities, loved his Lord and Savior and devoted his life to teaching those around him about Jesus.  Hubert never met a stranger and always had a good joke or two up his sleeve.  He adored his family especially his wife Polly of 49 years; his son, Arnie Jenks; his daughter, Nicole Moore & husband Scott; the light of his life…his two grandchildren, Emmy and Cole Moore who called him “Pop Pop”.  To know Hubert was to know a faithful friend. He was a devoted member, deacon, and Sunday school teacher at Falls Baptist Church for over 40 years.  His love for Jesus was something to be admired and he has now met his Lord and Savior face to face. 

 Hubert is also survived by his sister, Sylvia Bigham & husband Kenneth; his nephew, Ronald Jenks who was like a brother & his wife Pat Jenks and numerous beloved nieces and nephews that he adored. He was preceded in death by his father, Vandoris Jenks and mother, Ethel Harrison and stepfather Jake Harrison; brothers, Demp Jenks & wife Bette, Max Jenks & wife Kathryn, Marvin Jenks and Harold Jenks: sisters, Margie King and Katherine Jenks.

William Bland ‘Bill’ Ray, Esq.

William Bland “Bill” Ray, Esq., 96, of Wake Forest, passed away, Monday morning, October 16, 2023. He was born in Wake County to the late Lola and Melvin Ray.  His journey was marked by a dedication to learning, service to his country, a successful legal career, and an unwavering commitment to his community.

Bill was a proud alumnus of Wake Forest College, where he achieved degrees in mathematics and earned a Juris Doctorate degree in law.

 During World War II, Bill selflessly served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1944, stationed in Lakehurst, New Jersey. His patriotic spirit and commitment to duty were evident in all aspects of his life.

 Following his military service, Mr. Ray worked with a private law practice, providing legal counsel and support to countless individuals. Later, he transitioned to a role with State Farm Insurance, where he served as an adjuster for many years, further showcasing his dedication to justice and fairness.

In his remarkable career, he also assumed the role of Assistant North Carolina Attorney General, where he upheld the principles of justice and law, leaving a lasting impact on the state’s legal landscape.

 Bill’s heart was deeply rooted in his community. He exemplified his passion for helping others by actively engaging in various community-oriented endeavors. As a lifelong member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church, he not only served as a deacon but also led the Royal Ambassadors and shared his wisdom as a Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts, instilling values and leadership in young minds.

 His commitment extended beyond the church doors as he coached the church league baseball team and the girls’ church league softball team. Community was not just a word to Bill; it was a way of life. His tireless efforts left an indelible mark on the lives he touched through his countless community activities.

 Bill will be deeply missed, not only by his family but by the many lives he enriched through his dedication, mentorship, and kindness. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations to be involved and caring citizens, exemplifying the values he held dear.

  A celebration of Mr. Ray’s life will be held at 11 o’clock, Friday morning, October 27, 2023 at Ridgecrest Baptist Church. A private burial was held in the church cemetery.

Mr. Ray is survived by his son, Dr. Larry Ray of Wake Forest; aunt, Nola Murray of Wake Forest; numerous cousins and extended family. He was preceded in death by his first wife Euphine Harrison Ray; second wife, Vivian Thompson Ray and a brother, J.M. Ray.

Jeremiah (Jerry) D. Rudd

Jeremiah (Jerry) D. Ruddy, 66, of Wake Forest, NC, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023 surrounded by the love of his immediate family.

Jerry Ruddy was born in Utica, New York on November 9th, 1956, and most recently resided in Wake Forest, NC for the past 17 years. He had a passion for music, playing the drums and guitar, as well as singing. He loved listening to the Beatles, going to the beach, spending time with his family, and playing with his granddaughter, Adalynn.

Jerry worked in the organic grocery industry for over 35 years. He lived in New York, Florida, and North Carolina over the span of his life. He attended Mohawk Valley Community College earning an Associate of Arts degree in Business.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, in-law and friend.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jeremiah Edward Ruddy; and mother, Elizabeth Joseph Ruddy.

He is survived by his loving wife, Tracy Downing Ruddy; daughters, Taylor Ruddy Rickle (Bryan Rickle) and Victoria Downing Ruddy; granddaughter, Adalynn Tracy Rickle; sisters, Margaret Eva Ruddy, Virginia Elizabeth Ruddy; brother, Michael Owen Ruddy (Maureen); nephew, Jeremiah Ruddy; and niece, Amanda Ruddy.

Jo Ann Tippett Tilley

Jo Ann Tippett Tilley, 79, of Wake Forest, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2023. She was born in Wake County, the daughter of the late John and Josephine Tippett and was retired from the Administrative Office of the Courts for the State of North Carolina. Jo Ann was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church where she was known for her many faithful years being involved in children’s ministry. Jo Ann also loved gardening and keeping her yard in very pristine shape. She will be missed by her family and many friends and former co-workers.

Funeral Services will be held at 3 o’clock Sunday afternoon, October 22, 2023 at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Wake Forest Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 61 years, William Weldon Tilley, Sr.; sons, William Weldon Tilley, Jr. and wife, Theresa, of Wake Forest and Greg Duane Tilley of Wake Forest; sister, Diane Barbour and husband, Robert, of Raleigh; granddaughters, Elyse Nicole Tilley of San Diego, CA and Alyson Brooke Tilley of Wake Forest; sister-in-law, Elaine Kearney and husband, Larry, of Franklinton; niece, Michelle Bailey and nephews, Robbie Parrish and Joey Kearney. She will also be missed by her beloved Granddog Reesie.

Helen Montague Wadford

Helen Montague Wadford, 67, of 321 Normandy Road, left this earthly life and entered into her eternal life in Heaven with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, after an extended illness.

She was born April 26, 1956 in Raleigh, NC, the daughter of the late Pete and Frances Montague. She spent her adult life working in the paper/packaging industry in accounting and as an executive general manager until retiring in 2012.

She was raised in Raleigh and completed her high school education at Millbrook High School, where she actively participated as a majorette during her high school journey.

She met the love of her life, Ricky, and they married February 4, 1978 and have been together hand in hand ever since. Their love for each other has been evident and an example throughout their marriage. They have enjoyed 45 years of marriage together loving God, loving one another, loving family, and loving people.

She served her church and her community over the years in ways too numerous to mention, fulfilling her love for being a servant for Jesus. She was Minister of Music at two different churches for over 30 years. Over half of those serving at her current church, Calvary’s Cross Baptist Church in Louisburg, where she served faithfully up until her recent battles would not allow. Her love for singing and powerful voice reached many as she sang with the Gospel group, Firm Foundation for many years in churches, gospel singing events and family and friends memorial services. She enjoyed sharing her talent at the request of others at numerous weddings and special occasions/events. She enjoyed hosting personal events, directing and/or participating in various children’s ministries such as Vacation Bible School, camps, AWANA, Operation Christmas Child, and Belarussian Children’s Ministry. She enjoyed participating in events with Samaritan’s Purse projects. She volunteered her time with Franklin County as Guardian ad litem for several years, protecting the interests of those (minors) who are unable to take care of themselves. She hosted families from Belarus for numerous years and was instrumental in providing for them a better life here in America. She was “Mimi” to countless children and adults alike. An earthly angel, gracious servant, and everlasting friend to all in every way. “She Loved” with all of her heart.

She later became a spokesperson for the lung cancer community for over 11 years when diagnosed in August 2012. She participated in fundraisers, events, and sharing her story with many to encourage and support their journey.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Peter Paul Montague Sr. and Helen Frances Montague.

Helen is survived by her husband of 45 years, Ricky; her daughter, Tina (Greg) Smith of Louisburg; step-son, Chris Wadford of Youngsville; her brother, Paul (Pam) Montague of Youngsville; her grandchildren, Megan (Ashley) Conrad, Dillon (Hannah) Sykora, and Shelby Sykora; by her great-grandchildren, Brady Dillon Sykora, Jaxson Scott Sykora, and the soon to be born Kennedy Helen Sykora, to be carried as a memorial to “Mimi”.

She is also survived by her God-Children, Paige Cashwell and Tyler Melton.

She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.

Visitation with the family will take place at 5pm-8pm on Wednesday, October 25th at Bright Funeral Home, 405 S. Main Street, Wake Forest, NC 27587.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2 O’clock, in the afternoon, Thursday, October 26th, 2023, at Richland Creek Community Church, 3229 Burlington Mills Road, Wake Forest, NC 27587. Burial will immediately follow at Pine Forest Memorial Gardens in Wake Forest.

Clayborne Gilliam, 93, of Louisburg, NC, passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2023.

We say goodbye to a remarkable man and brick mason who was more than just a master of his trade; he was a master of life. We celebrate his life, his hard work, his love, and his lasting impact on us all. He will forever be in our hearts, and the structures he built will stand as a tribute to his legacy. He taught us many things and gave of himself, more than he will ever know.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, he was a humble, family man. 

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ann Gilliam; son, Ronnie Gilliam; and son-in-law, Kenny Chappell. 

He leaves behind his children, Ricky Gilliam (Edith), Jackie Chappell, Sherry Waddell (Rodney), Wayne Gilliam (Rochelle), Johnny Gilliam (Amanda), and Dawn Qualley (Steven); grandchildren, Michael Gilliam (Kim), Grant Gilliam (Heather), Chris Waddell (Heather), Leslie Chappell, Kevin Chappell (Lis), Heather Qualley, Joshua Qualley, Aria Qualley, Siri Qualley, and Grayson Gilliam; great-grandchildren, Alex Gilliam, Ryan Gilliam, Damian Gilliam, Will Gilliam, Ava Gilliam, Noah Chappell, Jordan Padelford, Paisley Waddell, Savannah Padelford, Hayden Padelford, and Crew Waddell; and special friends, Nellie Shearin and Lewis Rene Evans.

He cherished those close to him. He was not just a Daddy or Granddaddy, but a mentor who instilled in his children and grandchildren the values of hard work, integrity, and the importance of pursuing one’s dreams. His legacy lives on in them, the memories they share, the laughter they remember, and the lessons they’ve learned.

Let us remember the lessons he taught us, the value of hard work, the importance of family and friendship, and the power of a warm smile to bridge the gaps between us. Let us honor his memory by carrying these lessons forward in our own lives.

Albert Charles Burks, 68, of Wake Forest, NC, passed away on Monday, October 16, 2023.

Albert was born on January 4, 1955 in West Virginia. He was the Materials Manager for 25 years at Genesys Hospital in Flint, MI, and worked for 20 years as a Senior Consultant for Premier. In his free time he enjoyed fishing, camping, sports, and poker nights with his friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Edna Burks.

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Susan Burks; brother-in-law, Steven (Susan) Carpenter; uncle, Curtis Burks; niece, Hannah Hunt; nephew, Jacob Carpenter; and great nephew, Remi Hunt.

Ronald (Ron) Hudgins

Louisburg

Ronald (Ron) Hudgins, 86, of Louisburg, North Carolina passed away peacefully at home on Saturday October 16, 2023.

Ron was born on July 20, 1937 in Charlotte, NC. He was the youngest of six brothers and three sisters. Ron lost his parents at the age of 4. Ron and three of his brothers were raised in the Barum Springs Orphanage until he graduated high school. After graduation Ron married Marie Johnston and lived in Raleigh with their three sons. He served in the U.S. Army receiving an honorable discharge. Ron worked in Finance and Sales until his retirement.

Although losing both his parents at age 4, Ron would say that being raised and growing up at Barium Springs was the adventure of a lifetime, he enjoyed his time at Barium Springs, participating in sports and loved to share with others, the fond memories of his time at Barium Springs. Ron was very active in the Barium Spring Alumni Association, he participated in the Barium Springs Alumni association all his adult life, serving in many leadership roles include President of the Alumni Association. He regularly attended the annual Alumni reunions, maintaining lifelong friendships with the staff, and men & women who were also raised at Barium Springs. 

Ron was married to Esta Hudgins until her passing in 2014. Ron and Esta enjoyed life with each other, living in the Youngsville community. They were both active members of Flat Rock Baptist Church.

Ron loved landscaping and working in his yard. He was never one to sit around, always active, and always on the go. Ron lived life fully and optimistically. He loved the Lord, fully trusting in Jesus as his savior. He loved his church family and was always there to serve in any way needed.  He was kind and generous to his entire family both his immediate and extended family.

Ron is survived by his sons, Rodney Hudgins (wife Lynda), Joseph Hudgins (Kathy), Charles Hudgins (wife Wanda) and grandchildren, Brandy Hudgins-Dickerson, Alex Hudgins, Jonathan Hudgins, & Jason Barker.

Diane M. Kondichook (Nugent), 81, passed peacefully surrounded by her husband of 62 years, Jack, her loving son, John, and her daughter in law Staci on Monday, October 16, 2023. 

Diane is survived by her beloved grandchildren, Alec, Nicholas, and Krystina, brother Bernard Nugent, Jr, sister-in-law, Marci, sister-in-law, Jeanne Kondichook, and many nieces, nephews – all of whom loved Diane beyond measure.

Lynnfield, MA was the hometown of Diane’s childhood, much of her adult life she lived in Peabody, MA and during her retirement, home was Raleigh, North Carolina.

Diane had many careers over the years, retiring from Salem State College.  Diane was a fierce advocate for animals, active in many animal shelters, programs, and supported many charities for animals.  Gardening was her passion – Diane was either tending to her plants and trees or she was out getting more to fill out her yard.

There will be a funeral Mass at St John the Baptist, Peabody on Saturday, November 4, 2023, burial will be private.

Robert (Bob) Paul Gani, 86, of Raleigh, NC passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 12th surrounded by his family. He was born October 18th, 1936 in Cairo, Egypt to the late Paul and Esther Gani. He is also preceded in death by his older brother, Roland Gani. 

Bob grew up in Cairo until the age of 18 when he and his family immigrated to Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was here that he met Sylvia, his wife of almost fifty years. Bob had a love of travel and culture so much that he dedicated his life to helping others explore the world. Creating adventures and memories for many, he and Sylvia owned several travel agencies both in Toronto and in Raleigh. Bob was a member of the Anglican Church in which he enjoyed serving as a lectern reader and head of the hospitality team, sharing his love of food and cooking . He was a natural storyteller, speaking of his experiences with charisma and joy. Bob spoke several languages including French, Arabic, and Italian, often switching from one to another mid-story. 

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia of Raleigh, NC;  five sons, John Gani of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Andrew Gani (Kristin) of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Aaron Gani (Kathy) of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Christian Gani (Meghin) of Erie, Colorado, Benjamin Gani (Cynthia) of Raleigh, North Carolina and his only daughter, Jessie Hrivnak (Michael) of Raleigh, North Carolina, his brother Patrick Gani (Hope) of Toronto, Ontario, his eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. 

Funeral service and reception will be held Saturday, October 28th at 2pm at Church of the Apostles in Raleigh. We invite family, friends, and all those whose life was touched by Bob to celebrate him with love.

Richard Eugene Cramer

Wake Forest

Richard Eugene Cramer, 86, of Wake Forest, NC, passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2021.

Richard was born in Washington, D.C. He graduated Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, MD. He worked for the Bell Telephone Company and later became a realtor for 30 years. He was active in The Lions Club for many years. He and his wife Janice moved to Wake Forest in 2006 and thoroughly loved the area. He enjoyed traveling and his hobbies were playing on the computer, playing “Mr. Fix It” but most of all his dogs.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Arnold Cramer.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Janice Cramer; four children, Stephen (April) Cramer, Gettysburg, MD; Donna (Kevin) Hickey, Arnold, MD; Erik (Lisa) Philpot, Salt Lake City, UT; and Colin (Irena) Philpot, Boise, ID; 11 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Karen Darlene (Marston) Morgan

Raleigh

Karen Darlene (Marston) Morgan passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 in Raleigh, NC, surrounded by her loving family; brother, Theodore (Joyce) Marston, of Rochester, NY; and three nieces, Kimberly Lillie, of Rochester, NY; Vicki (David) Norris, of Raleigh, NC; and Anne Marston, of Raleigh, NC.

Karen was born on March 29, 1944 in Springville, NY, to Theodore and Inez (Parsons) Marston. She attended William Smith College where she studied psychology, and, a few years later, received a master’s degree in psychology from the University of Buffalo. Karen worked in rehabilitation and counseling. Karen was most proud of her time at Roswell Park Cancer Center where she worked with patients and their loved ones.

Karen was married to Harland “Mark” Morgan Jr. (deceased) in the Spring of 1982 and was stepmother to Mark Allen Morgan of Fairmont, NE, Lori (Carey) Howard of Tipton, Iowa, and Kerri (Randy) Olsen. She was a proud grandmother to Andrea (Steve) Smith, Tricia (Cory) Coobs, Cassie Howard, Clay (Rebekah) Howard, Dani (Jacob) Koch, Zachary (Kristine) Kuhnke, Brandon (Polly) Kuhnke, Jamie (Jim) Pinkelman, Kellie Allen, great-grandmother to 24, and great-great-grandmother to one child.

Karen was also a loving great-aunt to Benjamin, Rachel, Philip Norris (Vicki Norris), and Alexa Knapp (Kimberly Lillie); and great-great-aunt to Alexa’s son, Ezekiel.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; stepdaughter, Kerri Olsen; and step-granddaughter, Kellie Allen.

Karen brought light and joy into many lives and her presence will be deeply missed. Karen was known for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for her family and cherished friends. She was a source of strength and support, always there to lend an ear, offer guidance, and share in our joys and sorrows.

She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, quilting, flower gardening, bird watching, and spiritual growth. Karen was a lover of animals, especially dogs.

May Karen’s soul rest in peace, and may we find solace in the beautiful, funny, warm memories we shared with her. She will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
