Richard “Jim” Hailey, 77, of Wake Forest passed away on Monday, October 1, 2018, at Rex Hospital. Jim was born in Wake County, the son of the late Nellie Allen Hailey and Melvin Hailey.
A memorial service celebrating his life was held Friday afternoon, October 5, 2018, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with Dr. Al Hood officiating.
Jim is survived by his wife, Rebecca “Becky” Hailey; daughters, Tanya Sustarsic and her husband, Charles, of Locus Grove, Georgia and Jennifer Hailey of Wake Forest; a son, Jonathan Hailey of Wake Forest; sisters, Jeraldine Heath and her husband, Charles, and Betty Lou Harp and her husband, Linwood, all of Wake Forest; a brother, Albert Hailey and his wife, Carol, of Wake Forest; and grandchildren, Alyssa Warren and Emma Hailey.
The family would like to thank all the friends and family who have helped them during Jim’s sickness.

Charlie ‘Jay’ L. Pleasants
Wake Forest
Charlie “Jay” Pleasants, 90, died Thursday, October 4, 2018. He was born November 23, 1927 to the late Willie and Anna Hailey Pleasants. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and worked for many years as a production manager with Freightliner Trucks.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 20, 2018, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Woodland Baptist Church in Wake Forest.
Charlie is survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and step-grandchildren.

Elizabeth ‘Lib’ Best Biggerstaff
Youngsville
Elizabeth “Lib” Best Biggerstaff was a native of Wayne County and was the daughter of Cuyler and Frances Herring Best.
Lib graduated from Pikeville High School and Crumpler’s Secretarial College. In 1952 she married Daries O. Biggerstaff, Jr and lived in Wayne County until moving to Raleigh in 1961.
In 1961 she began a career with the State Bureau of Investigation, where she worked for 30 years and received the Long Leaf Pine Award.
Lib was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and Mema to everyone.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 6, 2018, at Harris Chapel Baptist Church and burial followed in the church cemetery.
Surviving are three children, Daries N. Biggerstaff and wife, Karen, Kathy B. Little and husband, Ken and David W. Biggerstaff and wife, Kristi; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Donations may be made to Harris Chapel Baptist Church or to Transitions LifeCare, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh.

Susan Wilczek Mitchum
Wake Forest
Susan was born in Utica, New York, a daughter of Walter and June (Wengert) Wilczek. She graduated from New York Mills High School, MVCC, and received a bachelor’s degree in computer science from SUNY Institute of Technology in 1986.
Susan began her career at GE Aerospace. In 1989, she moved with her family to Wake Forest, where she held IT roles at GTE and IBM, and most recently was a senior field engineer with Dell/Pivotal Software.
Susan’s most treasured role was being a mother to her two daughters, Mandy and Carrie Althoff, who she adored. On June 5, 2012 Susan married her loving husband, Daniel Mitchum. They had fun and adventure in their time together and he provided much care, happiness, and support throughout her illness. In January 2015 they adopted their sweet boxer, Bella. In 2016, Susan was blessed with her sweet granddaughter, Reagan June.
Susan was a parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church since 1989 and had served as a catechist. She volunteered as a board member for the Wake Forest and Franklin Academy PTAs and many other aspects of the Wake Forest community. She mostly enjoyed mentoring middle-school students in the STEM fields. Susan was a sports and fitness enthusiast, including jogging, cycling, hiking, and NCSU athletics. Susan praised God every day for the many blessing in her life, especially her loving family and friends.
Susan is survived by her husband, Daniel; her daughters, Mandy and Carrie Althoff; son-in-law, Jacob Moultrie; granddaughter, Reagan June Moultrie of Raleigh; siblings, Walter Wilczek Jr. (Terry), Steven Wilczek (Kathleen), Nancy Crandall (Mike), and Janice and Terry Johnson; God-daughter, Jessica Johnson; several beloved nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, all of upstate New York; sister-in-law, Dene Kinsey (Les) and children Alyssa Kinsey and Jacob Kinsey of South Carolina; and also many dear cousins and treasured friends. Susan was predeceased by her parents, June (Wengert) Wilczek and Walter Wilczek, Sr.
Mrs. Mitchum’s funeral will be held on Friday, October 12, at 11 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. Calling hours are 6 to 8 pm., Thursday, October 11, at Bright Funeral Home in Wake Forest.
A memorial service will take place at Sacred Heart-St. Mary’s Church in New York Mills, New York at a later date.

Elsie Pearce Shearon

Elsie Pearce Shearon, 98, of Wake Forest passed away on Tuesday morning, October 9, 2018, at her residence. She was born in Franklin County the daughter of the late Sarah Pearl Newton Pearce and James Leonard Pearce. She was preceded in death by her husband; Vassar Peace Shearon.
A funeral service will be held at 11 o’clock Friday morning, October 12, 2018, at the Rolesville Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Shearon is survived by her daughters, Lois Murphy (Thurman), Alice Peace Shearon and Betty Rowland (Paul); grandchildren, Heather Lyerly (Wayne), Christi Melton (Jamie), Lisa McHenry (Roy), Amy Kotofsky (C.J.), Paul Rowland III and Sarah Rowland; and great-grandchildren, Tyler Melton, Benjamin McHenry, Wyatt McHenry, Kayleigh Kotofsky, Charlie Kotofsky and Cameron Kotofsky.
The family would like to thank her care givers, Becky Finley and Donna Frazier, for all their love and kindness they shared with Mrs. Shearon.
