Melissa Louise Sandstrom, born October 26, 1986, died on September 20, 2018 at age 31 in her home in Raleigh.
Born in Fairfax, Virginia, Melissa was the daughter of Terri Yow and Denny Mack. She grew up in Vienna, Virginia as Melissa Yow and was later adopted by her grandparents Nels and Sharon Sandstrom, changing her name to Melissa Sandstrom.
Melissa attended George C. Marshall High School in Falls Church, Virginia and studied at Northern Virginia Community College. Melissa moved to the Raleigh area in 2010 and was most recently employed by Robert Half International as an administrator at the time of her death. She had an artistic flair and was working towards gaining rapport as a customer designer of decals on Etsy.
Melissa, also known to family as Missy, had a love for music and will be remembered for her creative nature and quick wit. She also loved the beach, as well as spending time at the pool.
Melissa is survived by her daughter, Amber Jade Hallaj (a smart, enthusiastic 8-year old who inherited her mother’s beautiful smile and fun-loving demeanor); mother, Terri Yow Petersen; grandparents, Nels and Sharon Sandstrom; aunts and uncles, Cindy Lawson, Ron Irvy, Greg Yow, Zuzana Hudakova, Jenni Murray, Karin Clark, Kris and Don Goewey; and cousins, Rick Nash, Thomas Nash, Chelsea Gillespie, Samantha Underwood and Emma Yow.
Visitation will be held Saturday, October 13, at noon followed by services in the Chapel at Bright Funeral Home at 1 p.m. There will be a private interment in Fairfax, Virginia at a later date.

Gregory “Greg” Vance Morris, 53, of Youngsville, formerly of Wake Forest, died Friday early afternoon, September 28, 2018 at his job site. He was born in Oak Hill, West Virginia, the son of Harry T. Morris and Jerline Morris, and was preceded in death by both parents and brother Harry Edward “Jacko”Morris.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon, October 4, 2018 at the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home . Burial will be private.
Mr. Morris is survived by his daughter, “Jessie” of Wake Forest; sisters, Beverly Denny and husband, Doug (now deceased), of Oxford, Sherry Brooks and husband, Willie Lee of Oxford, Marilyn Allen of Wake Forest, Nancy Toy and husband, Jon, of Wake Forest and Lisa Jones and husband, Wesley, of Berea; brothers, William “Tommy” Morris of Oxford, Mark Morris and wife, Farzine, of Escondido, California, and Stephen “Steve” Morris of Oxford.

Doris Jean Pearce “Dah” Barham

Doris Jean Pearce “Dah” Barham, 86, had a passion for her family and for living life her own way. Doris left this earth peacefully on Monday morning, October 1, 2018, surrounded by her loved ones in her home and in their care.
Doris was the middle child of Ina Frances Woodlief and Eugene Bryant Pearce of Rolesville. She loved spending time with her family, especially her great-grandchildren. She called them “her babies.” Doris grew up in Rolesville where she graduated from Rolesville High School. She was a very competitive basketball player and received the superlative for most athletic girl her senior year.
Thomas and Doris spent their lives as a pair. They made their home just outside of Rolesville when they were married on December 27, 1953. They traveled to Florida for many years, making Astor, Florida their home away from home. Doris was truly one of a kind. She had the most colorful personality and was known for her kindness, compassion, quick wit, and always entertaining stories.
The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks for all of the acts of love and kindness shown to them and Dah during her sickness.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 o’clock Wednesday morning, October 3, 2018, at Rolesville Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Randy Bridges and the Rev. J. Marshall Neathery officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Doris is survived by her husband of almost 65 years, Thomas Barham; son, Bennie Barham and wife, Linda; daughters, LouAnn Bradsher and husband, Glenn; Julie Brown and husband, Larry, all of Rolesville; five grandchildren, Brandon Barham (Catie), Blake Barham (Randi), Lindsey Seaby (Greg), Laura Lloyd (Samuel), and Patrick Bradsher; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Addie, Brynnlee, Sam, Bradsher, Will, Emily, Graham, and Luke; her sister, Nola Daniel; and her brothers, E. B. Pearce (Ruth) and Jim Pearce (Ruth). She was preceded in death by her sister, Carolyn Shearon.

Joyce R. Sheppard, 71, of Raleigh, passed away at her home Friday, September 28, 2018. She was born November 22, 1946 in Macon, Georgia, a daughter of the late Needham and Rebecca (Staples) Reeves.
A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Raleigh..
Joyce worked as an accountant with her husband and also in the furniture industry. She enjoyed fishing, plays and live music.
Along with her parents, Joyce was predeceased by her brother, Richard Reeves.
She is survived by her husband, Glenn Sheppard; her son, Michael and his wife, Jessica; her granddaughter, Ava Sheppard; and her sister, Sue Gulledge.

James Franklin Carter, 85, of Franklinton, passed away at his home Saturday, September 29, 2018. He was born November 18, 1932 in Johnson City, Tennessee, a son of the late Riley and Ella (Owensby) Long. Jimmie was predeceased by a son, Michael James Carter.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 2, 2018, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home..
Jimmie was a Marine through and through, “Semper Fidelis.” He fought in the Korean War. Jimmie was a proud American, and he had the biggest and kindest heart. He was affectionately known as Jimmy, Lucky, Dad, Daddy, Jim, Grandpa, Gray and Great Gray.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Elizabeth “Liz” Carter; his children, Patricia Carter Feindt of Woodsboro, Virginia, Tim Carter and wife, Cathy, of Falmouth, Virginia, Bonnie Tucker and husband, Rick, of Winter Haven, Florida, and Betty Sines and husband, Donnie, of Franklinton. Jimmy leaves a legacy of 14 grandchildren, 25 ½ great-grand children, and one great-great-grandson.

Elizabeth ‘Lib’ Woodlief DeMent

Lib Woodlief DeMent, 88, passed away on Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at her residence. She was born in Franklin County, the daughter of the late Bessie Hudson Woodlief and William Maurice Woodlief. She was preceded in death by her husband Wallace Mack DeMent Sr., and a son, William Richard “Rick” DeMent.
A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 30, 2018, at the Youngsville Baptist Church with Dr. Charles Stratton officiating. Burial followed in the Youngsville Town Cemetery.
Lib is survived by her sons, Tommy DeMent of Youngsville and Wallace Mack DeMent Jr. and wife, Rebecca, of Knightdale; grandchildren, Jamie Holcomb and husband, Richard, Devon DeMent, Melissa Vercoe and husband, James, Brian D. DeMent and fiancée, Ariel, and Chris Burke; and six great-grandchildren.

James K. ‘Ken’ Davis Sr.

James K. “Ken” Davis Sr., 77, of Youngsville passed away at his home on Thursday, September 27, 2018. He was born in Washington, D.C., a son of the late Charles W. Davis Sr. and Irene Eaton Davis.
Ken served in the U.S. Navy for six years as a seaman. He graduated with honors from Rappahannock Community College with a degree in police science. Ken was a deputy sheriff, and then promoted to captain of the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Department. He was also a K9 officer. Ken was an instructor at the Criminal Justice Academy.
He was predeceased by his siblings, Charles W. Davis Jr., Shirley Yates and Wilma Vincent.
Ken is survived by his children, James K. Davis Jr. and wife, Cheryl, and Tina Procopio and husband, Domenic; his grandchildren, Ronnie Procopio and wife, Courtney, Jacqueline Brown and husband, Tom, Julie Barham and husband, Donivan, Craig Grant Jr. and Brittany Furrow and husband, John; great-grandchildren, Ariana Procopio, Avalynn Barham, Donivan Barham Jr., Madison Barham, Josie Brown, Thomas Brown Jr. and Harper Furrow; siblings, Sandra Strous, Brenda Davis and Larry Davis; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the home of his sister, Brenda Davis,

Dorothy ‘Dottie’ Blair

Dorothy “Dottie” Blair, 85, died Monday, September 24, 2018. She was born March 17, 1933 to the late Jordan and Mildred Barnes.
Dottie was a kind, giving and strong women. She was a great mom and she loved all kids. She loved her grandchildren, Patrick and Andrew Blair. She was fun loving and feisty.
Dottie loved fashion and after graduating from Midway College, she worked as a clothing buyer for several department stores in Lexington, Kentucky. She traveled Europe for fashion shows. Later she opened her own clothing store in Lexington, called Chase LTD. She loved interior design as well, always decorating her home. She passed on her love of fashion and interior design to her daughter, Julie Blair.
Dottie loved Motown music, Rod Stewart, Aretha Franklin, etc. She loved dancing and especially the beach, where she and Vince went every year. She enjoyed walking the beaches and collecting sea shells. She kept up with politics as did her son, Gary Blair, they would often sit together and discuss all things political. She always put others above herself, always giving and helping others.
Dottie loved to debate. She had a passion for what was right for her family but also for the country. She always saw the best in people, and always wanted her children and family to achieve their dreams. Dottie stayed in touch with her siblings and their children from near and far.
Dottie was truly in love with her husband Vince, always taking care of him and supporting him thru their 67 years of marriage. She knows he will be strong for all of us, free of pain, at peace but still here with us.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 27, 2018, at Pine Forest Memorial Garden, Wake Forest. Rev. Steve Tillis officiated.
Surviving are her husband of 67 years, Vincent Blair; a son, Gary Blair, his wife, Leanne Blair, and their children, Patrick and Andy Blair; and a daughter, Julie Blair.

Richard “Jim” Hailey, 77, of Wake Forest passed away on Monday October 1, 2018, at Rex Hospital. Jim was born in Wake County, the son of the late Nellie Allen Hailey and Melvin Hailey.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon, October 5, 2018, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with Dr. Al Hood officiating.
Jim is survived by his wife, Rebecca “Becky” Hailey,; daughters, Tanya Sustarsic and her husband, Charles, of Locus Grove, Georgia and Jennifer Hailey of Wake Forest; a son, Jonathan Hailey of Wake Forest; sisters, Jeraldine Heath and her husband, Charles and Betty Lou Harp and her husband, Linwood, all of Wake Forest; a brother, Albert Hailey and his wife, Carol, of Wake Forest; and grandchildren, Alyssa Warren and Emma Hailey.

Brenda R. Faison, 67, died Monday, October 1, 2018 at Duke University Hospital. She was born in Pitt County, the daughter of the late Thomas W. and Katie Reed.

Mrs. Faison is survived by her husband, Cliff Faison; two sons, Steve and his wife, Sylvia Haddock, of Cameron and Tony and his wife, Angel Faison of Wake Forest; two daughters, Stephanie and Troy Worthington of Greenville and Sonya Coupe; three sisters, Cathy, Mary and her husband, Donnie, and Vickie and her husband, Ken; a brother, Tommy and his wife, Karen; grandchildren, Joy Haddock, Anna Haddock, Cameron Faison, Elizabeth Faison, Tyler Faison, Zachary Eisler, Lacy Eisler, Brittany Coupe and Robert Phillips; and three great-grandchildren
