Jonathan ‘William’ Caudle

Franklinton

Jonathan ‘William” Caudle, 20, died Friday, September 21, 2018. He was born August 18, 1998 to Bert and Deitre Caudle.

William was a 2016 graduate of Franklinton High School. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator with Civil Group in Raleigh. William was a member of the Franklinton Fire Department. He loved hunting, fishing, and ATVs, but loved spending time with his family and the love of his life, Lindsey Lee.

William was preceded in death by his “Granny,” Gracie Pugh, and his “Great-Grand Daddy”, JW Dickerson

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 29, 2018, at Franklinton Baptist Church, 102 West Mason Street, Franklinton. The Rev. David Averette and the Rev. Clyde Waiden will co-officiate.

Surviving are his parents, Bert and Deitre Durham Caudle; siblings, Kylee and Max Caudle; the love of his life, Lindsey Lee; beloved dog,  Drake Caudle; grandparents, Betty and Kenny Durham and James and Cynthia Caudle; aunts and uncles, Chris Edwards (great-uncle), Glen and Heather Caudle, Cissy and Dale Blasiman, Billy Durham, Renee and Mike Johnson, Dwayne (Boo) and Pam Durham; cousins, Cameron Caudle (best friend), Jay Johnson, Cody and Josh Blasiman, Tara Durham, Olivia Puckett and Michael Durham.

Visitation will be held 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, September 29, 2018, at the church.

Marc Thomas Matthews

Rolesville

Marc Thomas Matthews, 40, of Rolesville passed away on September 11, 2018.

Marc was born to Thomas and Patricia Matthews on April 11, 1978 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Superior Township, Michigan. Marc graduated from Hoffman Estates High School in Hoffman Estates, Illinois in 1996 and eventually became a proud member of the United States Air Force, serving from 2000 to 2004. He was an enthusiastic patriot. Marc enjoyed playing sports, Michigan football and target shooting.

Marc married Christine “Dee” Hopkins in 2011. He went on to complete his bachelor’s degree and graduated cum laude from Purdue University in 2013. He worked as a purchasing coordinator for Wedgewood Custom Home Builders in Carmel, Indiana.

Marc was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Anthony Matthews; paternal grandfather, Vincent Matthews; paternal grandmother, Betty Matthews; maternal grandfather, John Richards; and maternal grandmother, Margret Richards.

Marc is survived by his wife, Dee Matthews, and their three sons, Miles, Easton and Cole Matthews. He is also survived by his mother, Patricia Matthews, and two brothers: Matthew and Jonathon Matthews.

Ronald Stallings

Raleigh

Ronald Stallings, 82, died Thursday, September 20, 2018, at Springmoor Retirement Community. He was born in Cushing, Oklahoma. Mr. Stallings was a teacher and counselor for 40-plus years, also furthered his education by obtaining three master’s degrees, and continuously encouraged the success of his students.

He was a loving and devoted son and brother, taking good care of his late mother, Donna Stallings, for many years after the death of his father, Robert Lee Stallings Sr.

Graveside services were held Saturday afternoon, September 22, 2018, at Bay Leaf Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Don Gilbert officiating.

Mr. Stallings is survived by three siblings, sister, Barbara Bailey of Raleigh, brothers, Robert Stallings Jr. and wife, Kate, of Virginia and Whitt Stallings of Raleigh; and many nieces and nephews.

Patricia Jean ‘Pat’ Farrell Samiec

Wake Forest

Patricia “Pat” Samiec, 58, of Wake Forest passed away on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at Duke Medical Center in Durham. She was born in Corning, New York, the daughter of Mary Herron Farrell and Donald Farrell Sr.

She was employed as assistant service manager with Leith Mercedes in Raleigh. Pat possessed an exceptional ability to relate and connect with anyone she met. Her kindness and quick-witted humor lit up the room, and all who knew her will remember her infectious smile fondly. A tremendous fighter, she left this world on her on terms. In her free time, she loved being outdoors. She found joy in skydiving, stargazing, and the beach. An avid sports fan, she loved following the New York Yankees and the North Carolina Tar Heels.

A memorial service celebrating her life was held at 7 o’clock Sunday evening, September 23, 2018, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home.

Pat is survived by her wife, Candy Woodlief; a son, Nathan Patrick Samiec of Charlotte; step-children, Justin Woodlief of Wake Forest and Lindsey Woodlief of Richmond, Virginia; grandchildren, Jackson and Ryan Woodlief, both of Wake Forest; sisters, Mary Pfleiderer and husband, Tod, of Pine Valley, New York, Doreen Farrell and Audrey Farrell, both of Painted Post, New York; a brother, Donald Farrell Jr. and his wife, Rhonda, of Painted Post; a niece, Samantha Burris; and nephews, Kenny, Kody and Travis Warner,  Geoffrey Layton and Bo Farrell.

Sue Knox Truitt

Franklinton

Sue Knox Truitt, 72, passed away on Sunday, September 16, 2018. She was born in Martin County, the daughter of the late Martha Lynch Knox and James Willie Knox.

A funeral service was held Sunday afternoon, September 23, 2018, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with the Rev. David Averette officiating. Entombment followed in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Truitt is survived by her husband, Robert Truitt, and a daughter, Robin Truitt of Franklinton.

Murray Newton

Raleigh

Murray Newton, born August 25, 1929, died in his home in Raleigh on September 21, 2018. Murray received his undergraduate degree with highest honors from Rutgers University. He met his beloved wife, Colleen, in 1951 at a dance at the YMCA in Montclair, New Jersey. He worked his entire life as a CPA and entrepreneur, applying his knowledge, skills and work ethic toward the success of various businesses.

He is survived by his wife, Colleen Newton; daughter, Deborah Newton Sheppard (Frank Sheppard); sons, Kevin Newton (Lynn Newton) and Lloyd Newton (Erica Zendt); four grandchildren; and one great-grandson and a second due in November. His grandchildren are Paul Sheppard (Melissa Rich), Mark Sheppard, Bryan Newton (Rachel Newton), Hannah Newton (Graydon Lyon Lockard III) and great-grandchild, Graydon Lyon Lockhart, IV.

Murray was a loving, chivalrous, solicitous, husband who loved his entire family. He was happiest when spending time or traveling with family – eating, drinking, laughing and loving each other. He also loved going to work and regarded the people he worked with as family. His work ethic is shared by few others as evidenced by the fact that he continued to work up until his death.

A Funeral Mass was held at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church on Tuesday, September 25, 2018.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that expressions of sympathy take the form of a contribution in Murray’s name to the Kidney Foundation or to St. Catherine of Siena Church.

Michelle Wilkerson

Wake Forest

Michelle Sobkowich Wilkerson passed away at home in Wake Forest on Thursday, September 20, 2018.

Michelle was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend to many. Her kindness and warmth and ability to connect with others will always be remembered.

Michelle was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada where her father, Kenneth, was a petroleum engineer. Kenneth relocated the family to Denver and subsequently Houston where Michelle attended Westfield High School.  Michelle attended Southwest Texas State University and graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University with a degree in marketing.

Michelle worked many years in the pharmaceutical industry in marketing and sales with Akorn, Dura, and Elan Pharmaceuticals before becoming a fulltime mother to her son, Michael, who she adored.

Michelle was a certified scuba instructor and she enjoyed the water. She was an animal lover and enjoyed spending time with a Meet Up group that she formed and managed that allowed her to form and share good times with current and new friends.

Michelle met her beloved husband, Bill Wilkerson, after a chance encounter in New Orleans that led to many wonderful years of happiness and marriage. Michelle and Bill were married in New Orleans and lived there until relocating to North Carolina in 2012. Michelle truly enjoyed living in Wake Forest and made many new friends.

Michelle is survived by her husband, Bill Wilkerson of Wake Forest; son, Michael Carlton Wilkerson of Wake Forest; mother, Marlene Sobkowich of Mandeville, Louisiana; sister, Marcie Litchfield and husband, Marty, of Lockhart, Texas; sister, Marnie Sobkowich of Mandeville, Louisiana; and nieces, Kendra and Amelia Litchfield.

Virgie Richardson Denton

Wake Forest

Virgie Richardson Denton, 92, of Wake Forest passed away on Monday, September 24, 2018, at her residence. She was born in Wake County, the daughter of the late Euzelia Lowery Richardson and Henry Richardson, and was preceded in death by her husband; Wallace Denton; a son, Reid Denton; and a brother, Joe Richardson.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 o’clock Thursday morning, September 27, 2018, at Pine Forest Memorial Garden with the Rev. Robert Faile officiating.

Mrs. Denton is survived by her sons, Tony Denton, Stanley Denton and his wife, Cynthia, all of Wake Forest; grandchildren, Amy Marshall and husband, David, of Youngsville and Michael Denton of Lincoln, Nebraska; a great-grandchild, Erin Marshall; a sister-in-law, Kathy Richardson of Wake Forest; and several nieces and nephews.

Alton L. ‘Mac’McDonald Jr.

Wake Forest

Alton L. “Mac” McDonald Jr., 79, of Franklinton passed away at his home on Tuesday, September 18, 2018.  He was born April 19, 1939 in Raleigh, a son of the late Alton L. McDonald Sr. and Dorothy (Morrison) McDonald.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, September 24, 2018, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home.

Mac graduated from Broughton High School and served in the U.S. Navy for four years. He worked in the pressroom for The News & Observer as a supervisor. He enjoyed NASCAR racing, hunting, fishing, snow skiing, and riding his four-wheeler with his sons-in-law in the mountains of West Virginia.

Mac is survived by his daughters, Tamara Russell and husband, Brett, and Pam Brockway and husband, Lee; his grandchildren, Bailey and Blake Russell and Emily and Mitchell Brockway; the mother of his daughters, Jackie McDonald; his sister, Mickey Pleasants and husband, Riley, and their children, Lee Makepeace and her husband, David Makepeace, and their children Turner and Hannah, and Kelley Pleasants and her husband, Don Dietz. He is also survived by extended family members, Melody, Meagan and Carlton.

Justina Rose Jastrow

Wake Forest

Justina Rose Jastrow, 57, of Wake Forest, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, Sept. 19, 2018, at her residence surrounded by her family.

Tina was born in Nash County, the daughter of Henry Adkins and the late Carol Ann Baker.

She is survived by her , David Jastrow of Wake Forest; sons, Hugh (Julie) Wilson of Holly Springs, James (Jackie) Hicks of Sanford, and Daniel Hicks of Augusta Georgia; daughter, Kayla Jastrow of Raleigh; sister, Lydia Sullivan of Mooresville; brothers, Henry “Hank” Adkins of Louisburg and Lee (Jaime) Adkins of Raleigh; grandchildren, Alexa Wilson, Trent Wilson, Bryson Hicks, Lena Hicks and Carly Hicks; mother in-law, Barbara Jastrow; and sisters-in-law, Sue Fischer and Kathy Knoebel.

In addition to the family members listed above, Tina was survived and preceded in death by family and friends too numerous to name individually.  Her love and definition of family extended well beyond blood and into the hearts of everyone that she knew.

A family graveside service was held at 12 p.m. Sunday at Bunn Memorial Gardens.
