Biven Gorum Andersen

Wake Forest

Biven Gorum Andersen, 80, died Sunday, September 16, 2018, at her home surrounded by her family. Biven was born March 15, 1938 in Sulphur, Louisiana to the late Thelma and H.W. Gorum.

She worked over forty years as a paralegal, locally for John Rich and James Warren at their law firm. Biven has been a longtime and very active parishioner at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Wake Forest, joining the parish in 1967.

Mrs. Andersen was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Terry Dane Andersen; a brother, Terry L. Gorum; and a sister, Callie L. Andrews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 22, 2018, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 520 West Holding Avenue, Wake Forest. Burial will follow at Pine Forest Memorial Gardens in Wake Forest.

Surviving are her husband, of 61 years, Blewitt Richard “Dick” Andersen Jr.; three sons, R. Derek Andersen and wife, Maggie, of Wake Forest, Doyle K. Andersen and wife, Julie, of Corpus Christi, Texas, and David G. Andersen and wife, Brenda, of Wake Forest; six grandchildren, Melissa, Kristen, Stephanie, Fallon, Kevin and Callie; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Anita “Sissy” Perkins.

Anna M. Johnson Reiss

Wake Forest

Anna M. (Johnson) Reiss, 87, passed away on September 14, 2018. She was the daughter of Algot and Selma Johnson and was born in New Haven, Connecticut. She was the widow of Herman R. Reiss Sr.

She lived most of her life in Connecticut but lived out her last years in North Carolina. Anna was a well-known kindergarten and third grade teacher at Judson School in Watertown, Connecticut.

She leaves four children, Heidi A. Reiss-Tait (Forbes Tait) of Pennsylvania, Amy Reiss of Virginia, Wendy Reiss of Georgia, and Herman R. Reiss, Jr. (Anita) of North Carolina. Anna had six grandchildren, Andrew F. Tait (Becky), Lindsay Bean (Philip), Alexandra Perkins, Aaron Deutsch, Christopher Reiss, and Nicholas Reiss; and four great-grandchildren: Andrew R. Tait, Charlotte Tait, Desmond Bean, and Channing Perkins.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 27, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Our Savior Lutheran church in Thomaston, Connecticut.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association in memory of Anna Reiss.

Tracy Allen Penny

Zebulon

Tracy Allen Penny, 42, of Zebulon passed away Friday, September 14, 2018, in Raleigh. She was born May 18, 1976 in Wake County, a daughter of Dan and Stella Louise (Grimes) Allen.

Tracy enjoyed hiking, walking, the mountains, and the beach but most of all spending time with her three daughters and her family.

She was predeceased by both maternal and paternal grandparents and her aunt, Elaine Raynor.

Tracy is survived by her parents, Dan and Stella “Louise” Allen; her three daughters, Savannah Elaine Penny, Sydney Elizabeth Penny, and Summer Elyse Penny; her brothers, Michael Allen (Theresa) and Dan H. Allen II; aunts and uncles, Glenn Roger Allen (Christine), Bud Grimes (Pam) and Susan Voshel; nieces and nephews, Lauren Allen Monroe (Bradley) and their son, Brody, Hunter Allen (Britton) and Ashley Allen; and her cousins, Lisa Schaut (Randy), Greg Mims (Tonya), Karen Allen (Whitney) Glenn Allen (John) Steven Allen, Bill “Charlie” Grimes, (Christine) and their children, Katie and Ethan.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 20, 2018, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home.

Wake Forest

It is with great sadness that the family of Dowd Bryant Harrison announces his passing on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at the age of 80 years. Bryant will be lovingly remembered by his children, Tim Harrison (daughter-in-law Kaui and granddaughter Madison), Debbie Tavolacci  (granddaughter Victoria “Tori”), and Cindy Wachtstetter (son-in-law Chris and grandson Morgan). Bryant will also be fondly remembered by his sisters, Jean Dority and Mary Lee Stewart (brother-in-law A.W.). Bryant was predeceased by his parents Otho and Verna Harrison, brother-in-law Robert Oakley, brother-in-law Robert Dority and nephew Chris Oakley.

Additionally, he is survived by his niece, Kim Woodrow and husband, Randy; grandnephew, Mason; niece, Jill Perkey and husband, Rich; grandnephew, Connor; grandniece, Mary Brooks; Chris’s wife, Hazel Oakley; grandnephew, Lee Oakley and wife, Anna, and grandniece, Kristina Oakley; special friend, Margaret Harrison as well as many cousins and friends.

Bryant graduated from Wake Forest High School in 1958. After high school, he proudly served in the U.S. Army for two years. Bryant had a 31-year career with Wake County Computer Operations and was a volunteer fireman with Stony Hill Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years. Bryant was a faithful member and volunteer for his church, Stony Hill Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, Bryant’s request is that donations be made in his name to the Stony Hill Baptist Church building fund or Transitions LifeCare Hospice in Raleigh.

Graveside services for Mr. Harrison were held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, September 17, 2018, at Stony Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Albert Farley Breazeale

Youngsville

Albert Farley Breazeale, 84, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018, at home, surrounded by his family, after a brief illness. Services were held Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2018, at Youngsville Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Stratton Jr. officiating.

A native of Brandon, Mississippi, Albert received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Mississippi College in 1956. He used that degree to work as a medical technician while obtaining his bachelor of divinity degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1962.

Rev. Breazeale pastored three churches in Mississippi: Bethel Baptist in Copiah County, Briar Hill Baptist in Rankin County, and Shaw Baptist in Bolivar County. He also pastored Franklin Road Baptist Church in Salem, Ohio. He was a bivocational minister while in Ohio and during his second pastorate in Shaw. After his retirement from the ministry, he worked five years as a medical technologist at Maria Parham Health in Henderson, North Carolina.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Myrtle Cooper Breazeale of Youngsville, North Carolina; his sons and their wives, John and Linda Breazeale of Starkville, Mississippi, and Carl and Jill Breazeale of Youngsville; granddaughters, Jessie (Michael) Akerman of Wake Forest, Rachel Breazeale of Raleigh and Debra Ann Breazeale of Starkville, Mississippi; and great-granddaughter Eloise Akerman of Wake Forest.

Clifford Leon Ross

Wake Forest

Clifford Leon Ross, 88, of Wake Forest passed away at his home on Tuesday, September 11, 2018.

He was born February 14, 1930 in Wake County, a son of the late Hickmond and Edith (Knight) Ross.

A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 18, 2018, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home. Interment followed in Wake Forest Cemetery.

Clifford served in the United States Navy and retired from the U.S. Postal Service.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Frances Ross, and his two children Sydna, Ross and Martin Ross.

Nanci Dai Lucas

Youngsville

Nanci Dai Lucas, 81, went home to be with our Lord on September 15, 2018. Nanci was also a very dear mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She loved her family and her Lord. She was born in Los Angeles, California on November 28, 1936 to the late William M. and Frances A. Hindman Sr.

Nanci was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. George (Bert) Lucas; her brother, William M. Hindman Jr.; and her son, Brad Lucas.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Traci Dai Lucas-Lopez and husband, Scott Lopez Sr. of Wake Forest; grandchildren, Scott Lopez Jr. of Creedmoor, Gabriel Dai Lopez of Wake Forest, Johnathan Lopez. and Nicholas Lopez of the home; brother, James Hindman of Montana; sister, Barbara Laferriere of California; nieces and nephews and many friends.

Nanci was a talented and gifted musician. She started playing the piano at the age of 6 and the organ at 16. Nanci and her husband, Bert, ministered through pastoral care and musical talents in Maumee, Holland and Toledo churches. After retiring from the Toledo Public Schools, she moved to North Carolina. Nanci worked for Vance-Warren County School systems. She was choir director/ organist for the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. Most recently she shared her talents with The Lodge and the Town of Wake Forest.

A memorial service honoring her life will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 20, 2018, in The Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with Pastor Philip Lyon of the Wake Forest Church of God officiating.  Nanci will be laid to rest on Tuesday at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park with her beloved husband in Toledo. Service officiated by the Walker Funeral Home & Crematory

Traci Lucas-Lopez and family would like to express their sincerest appreciation to Carolyn Hannah. Carolyn has been Nanci’s friend and personal assistant for over 11 years. Her love and dedication brought comfort and joy to Nanci and her family. No words can express our appreciation and love we have for all she has done.

James ‘Jim’ Loehman

Raleigh

James “Jim” Loehman was born May 10, 1938 and went peacefully into the arms of Jesus on September 12, 2018. He was born at home in Texas and was a longtime member of Bay Leaf Baptist Church, served in the U.S. Navy, retired from IBM, was active with Gideon’s International and the community. He never knew a stranger.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Glenda; sons, Michael (Candace) and Timothy (Debbie); daughter, Brenda Lane (Goble); grandchildren, Kaitlyn Yates, Ashlyn, Jessica, Joshua, Daniel Lane, Aimee Lane Hatfield (Greg); great-grandchildren, Madison Lane and Ethan Hatfield; and brother, Robert (Carolyn).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Ethel; and sister, Barbara Wilkerson.

The funeral service for Mr. Loehman will be held at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 19, 2018, at Bay Leaf Baptist Church, 12200 Bayleaf Church Road, Raleigh.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the church before the service.
