Marvin Webb Whitt

Marvin Webb Whitt, 86, passed away Tuesday morning, August 28, 2018. He was born in Granville County, the son of the late Evie Sue Davis Whitt and Hester Thomas Whitt. He was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Brahm Copeland Scarpace, and by his wife, Patsy Pearce Whitt.
Mr. Whitt was a member of the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg. He was a member of North Raleigh Chapel. He was a hard-working man and loved the Lord, his wife Patsy and his two girls dearly. He also treasured his relationships with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his brothers and sisters.
He loved the outdoors; camping, boating, skiing, NASCAR, tree service and just tinkering around. His girls say, “There was nothing Daddy could not fix.”
He longed to be back with his true love, Patsy, again in heaven, but he will be truly missed here until we meet again on those heavenly streets of gold.

A funeral service was held at 12:30 Friday afternoon, August 31, 2018, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with Mark Schell officiating. Burial followed in the Mangum Family Cemetery, 8320 Mangum Dairy Road,Wake Forest.
Mr. Whitt is survived by his daughters, Wanda Whitt Eaton and husband, Randy, of Wake Forest and Marti Whitt Fennema and husband, Anthony, of Wake Forest; sisters, Thelma Liberty of Newport News, Virginia, Wilma McDonald and Shirley Booth, both of Durham and Anette Hughs of Creedmoor; a brother, Ted Whitt of Mckenney, Virginia; grandchildren, Scarlett and Worth-Wade Eaton of Wake Forest, Jessica Donar and husband, Brett, of Raleigh, Whittney Carlton of Raleigh, Tiffani Arostegui and husband, Brandon, of Raleigh and Tyler Carlton of the U.S. Navy; great-grandchildren, Rylan Carlton, Lucille and Arbor Scarpace and Forrest Donar.

Linda S. Dunnivan

Linda S. Dunnivan, 69, of Raleigh died Monday, August 27, 2018, at her home after a long battle with brain cancer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Essie Shifflett; sister, Joyce; brother, W.E.; in-laws Roy and Eleanor Dunnivan; and sister-in-law, Mary Rollins.
A memorial service was held Sunday, September 2, 2018, at Bright Funeral Home with a reception at The Forks Restaurant following the service.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Royce; children, Royce Jr. (Michelle), Rick (Buji), and Jaclyn Lehmuth (Kris); grandchildren, Katie Dunnivan (Jacob), Travis Dunnivan, Brent Laconico, Taylor Dunnivan (Chris), and Josephine Dunnivan; sisters; Brenda Wyant (Wade), Janet Andrews and Darnell Morris (Randy); brother-in-law, Bruce Dunnivan (Karen), sisters-in-law Beverley Knighton (Dale), and Robin Clatterbuck (Cary); and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
In addition, she leaves behind a wide circle of friends from her hobby, Cowboy Action Shooting, many of whom she loved as brothers and sisters. She was known by her alias “Loco Linda” to her shooting friends. She was proud of her trophy for winning the state championship in her class a few years ago, and even more proud of the trophy for winning “Best Dressed Cowgirl.”

Lieutenant Colonel Richard Lee Haley

Lieutenant Colonel Richard Lee Haley died at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, September 1, 2018, at the age of 76. He is remembered for his strong love of country, family, and service.
He was a decorated war hero, who served his country for 30 years in the United States Army. He served in the Marine Corps Reserves and the Special Forces Reserves. In 1967, he was commissioned into the United States Army as a Second Lieutenant. He served in the Vietnam War during the TET Offensive in 1968 and a second tour in 1972, when the war ended. He also served in Korea in 1987 and 1988. Lieutenant Colonel Richard Haley was Ranger, Airborne, and Special Forces qualified. He completed the United States Army Aviation course and flew Huey and Chinook helicopters during two tours in Vietnam in 1968 and 1972, flying numerous combat operations. He completed his master’s degree in business administration at West Virginia University in 1974 and his doctorate degree in administration and supervision in 1998 at North Carolina State University.
Richard Lee Haley was born October 28, 1941 in Eccles, West Virginia. He is the son of Charles and Marie Haley, and is preceded in death by his parents and his stepmother, Drema Gaye Haley.
Richard Lee Haley is survived by his beloved wife or 54 years, Nancy Caroline (Jabour) Haley; his five sons, Richard II and wife,, Beth of Arlington, Virginia,, Colonel Chad Haley, M.D. and wife, Debbie, of West Point, New York, Jason and wife, Jaquelyn, of Raleigh, Hunter and wife, Mary Lindsay, of Raleigh and Derek and wife, Ashley, of Raleigh; and his seven grandchildren Magge, Trey, David, Chad, Luke, Alexis and Olivia. He is also survived by his siblings, Haley of Zebulon, Melanie Seward of Elberson, Virginia; Michael Haley of Newport News, Virginia and Judy Shematek of Seaford, Virginia.
A visitation will be held at Bright Funeral Home on Thursday, September 6, 2018, from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Friday, September 7, 2018, at 1 at p.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church at 804 High House Road in Cary. Flowers are welcome; contributions may be sent to the United States Department of Veterans Affairs.

Fred E. Rogers

Fred E. Rogers, 81, passed away Saturday, September 1, 2018, at Hillside Nursing Home in Wake Forest. He was born August 31, 1937 in Wake County to the late Hudie Clellon Rogers and Elsie Mangum Rogers.
He was predeceased by his wife, Donna Rogers, and two brothers, Bryant Rogers of Wake Forest and Donald Rogers of Raleigh. Fred is survived by his son, Kent Rogers and his wife, Carolyn, of Wake Forest and granddaughter, Stacey Rogers, of Raleigh; a brother, Charles Rogers and his wife, Faye, of Raleigh; sister-in-law, Mamie Rogers of Wake Forest; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services were held Tuesday, September 4, 2018, at Stony Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev Mark Harrison officiating.

Carole Lee Caniford

Carole Lee Caniford passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, August 28, 2018. Carole had been living a life of retirement since retiring from WakeMed as a nurse for over 40 years.
Carole received her nursing degree at James Madison University in Virginia where she was born. Carole was an avid lover of animals, especially horses and dogs. She trained and showed horses for a number of years, winning many awards throughout those years.
Many knew Carole as a wonderful cook as well as canner of a variety of fruits and vegetables. Friends often would say she should have a show fondly named “Canning with Caniford”. Carole loved her yard filled with fruit trees, she loved her friends and she especially loved the beach.
Carole was predeceased by her good friend, Judy. She is survived by her mother, Harriett. Carole was one of the most honest and direct people on earth and you clearly knew if you were her friend. You knew more if you were not. Our friend will be greatly missed.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 8, 2018, at Bright Funeral Home, followed immediately by a celebration of her life at Pat Murnane’s Restaurant in Wake Forest. As Carole would leave us with “No Foam.”

Aurilla Mae ‘Sam’ Lewis

Aurilla Mae “Sam” Lewis, 82, died Saturday, September 1, 2016, at Transitions Hospice. She was born in Cumberland County, the daughter of the late Lawrence Lee and Mary Evelyn Cannon Brown. Mrs. Lewis was married to Carl Duncan Lewis for 41 years. Mrs. Lewis was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Linda Dixon Smith, and a brother, Eugene Lee Dixon.
Mrs. Lewis is survived by: her son, Todd and wife, Leslie; daughter, Heather Lewis Johnson and husband, Brian; grandchildren, Richard Andrew Boyd, Olivia Faith Strickland, Mary Margaret Boyd, Caroline Hinsley Bridges, Ava Diane Lewis, Aiden Todd Lewis; nieces, Ashley Wright and Roslyn Buck; one great-grandchild; several additional nieces and nephews; brother, Lawrence Lee “Dinky” Dixon Jr.; and sister-in-law, Lucrecia McBee and husband, Mac.
Aurilla had been an accountant for the Marine Corp in Cherry Point for many years. She loved doing several different crafts and with her husband owned The House of Duncan Craft Store, where they made handmade and artistic baby doll clothing, Ragged Ann and Andy dolls, baby blankets and a variety of cross stitching items which she was very proud of making for people.
