Sallie Raynor Garriss

Wake Forest

Sallie Raynor Garris, 89, passed away Sunday, August 19, 2018. Sallie was born on July 26, 1929 in Wallace to the late Arthur and Lula Raynor.  Wallace is where Sallie served with her husband, R.E. Garriss Sr., in church ministry until his passing in 1988.  She continued serving in the church until she was unable to attend in late 2017.

Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock on Thursday afternoon, August 23, 2018, at North Haven Church in Raleigh.  Burial followed at Pine Forest Memorial Gardens in Wake Forest.

Sallie was predeceased by her siblings, Elmo Raynor and Norma Sholar Carnell Nanny.

Sallie is survived by her sons, R.E. Garriss Jr. and wife, Susan, and Brian K. Garris; grandchildren, Tray and wife, Chantal, Elliott and wife, Zoe, and Summer Garris; and great-grandchildren, Dustin, Bailey, Grady and Caroline Garriss.

Everyone who knew Sallie could see her husband and boys were her greatest joy next to knowing Jesus. She was a friend to many and a mother to others. Gathering with friends and family was Sallie’s favorite pastime. She loved to cook and when you left her home you were well fed with the best “cooking” in town. She was a wonderful wife, loving mother and grandmother that everyone wished that they had. Only God knows just how many times she sang “Jesus Loves Me, This I Know” to every child who sat on her lap. Sallie stood firm with her walk with Jesus. Always encouraging us to draw closer to God, spend time with him, love and always obey him in all we do and say that our lives would bring Glory to his name. The family thanks God for Sallie’s dedicated prayer life and her love of God that helped to mold and make us true servants of Jesus Christ. Sallie stood in the gap, worked in the trenches, and manned the front line of defense for everyone she loved. She was a true example of what a surrendered life to Jesus is capable of; we have all been blessed by her faithfulness and commitment.

She was a prayer warrior, spiritual leader and counselor.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Northeast Haven Church Building fund.
