Grace Joynes Baker

Grace Joynes Baker, 84, of Raleigh died Saturday, June 14, 2014, at Duke Raleigh Hospital. She was born in Scotland, the daughter of the late George and Grace Mellis.

A celebration of her life will be held at 3 o’clock Saturday afternoon, June 21, 2014, at Youngsville Baptist Church.

Grace was an avid dancer and was a member of several senior dance clubs. She enjoyed singing in the church as well as entertaining the local senior citizen groups. Before moving to North Carolina Grace was an active member of The Union Vale Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and was a tax collector for the City of Union Vale, New York.

Mrs. Baker is survived by her husband of 60 years, Frederick W. Baker; children, Richard Baker and wife, Ryann, of Youngsville, Lynn Winkelbauer and husband, Joe, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and Diane Baker-Carlon of Red Hook, N.Y.; sister, Margaret Martin of Scotland; brother, Jim Mellis of Scotland; grandchildren, Nicole Baker, Kelly Baker, Tori Winkelbauer, Josh Winkelbauer, Kyle Baker, Alex Carlon, and Mark Carlon; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Brandon Baker.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Youngsville Baptist Church, P. O. Box 297, Youngsville, NC 27596.

Friends may visit with the family in the Youngsville Baptist Church Fellowship Hall one hour prior to the service.

Patsy Pearce Whitt

Patsy was born on July 20, 1934, and passed away on Friday, June 13, 2014, at her home in Raleigh in the arms of her husband with her family by her side.

She was born in Wake County, the daughter of the late W. Worth and Burma Pearce. Mrs. Whitt was a member of North Raleigh Chapel, where she sang in the choir and was a vital member of the Women’s Ministries, supporting Missionaries around the World.

A celebration of her treasured life was held at 3 o’clock Monday afternoon, June 16, 2014, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with Mr. Jimmy Flythe officiating. Burial was in the Mangum Family Cemetery.

Patsy was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She leaves behind the most precious gift you could give… A legacy of great love for our Heavenly Father and a Faith in Him that NEVER shrunk back. Her life was a true example of Christ’s great unconditional and persevering love.

She is survived by her husband, Marvin W. Whitt of 59 years of marriage; daughters, Wanda Whitt Eaton and husband, Randy, of Wake Forest and Marti Whitt Fennema and husband, Anthony, of Raleigh; sister, Karen P. Wyan of London, Ky.; grandchildren, Scarlett and Worth-Wade Eaton of Raleigh, Jessica Donar and husband, Brett, of Raleigh, Whittney Scarpace and husband, Andy, of Youngsville and Tyler and Tiffani Carlton of Raleigh; and great-grandchildren, Rylan and Lucille Scarpace. She was preceded in death by her great-grandson, Brahm Copeland Scarpace.

Memorial contributions may be made to North Raleigh Chapel in C/O Missions in honor of Patsy Whitt.

Pallbearers were Worth-Wade Eaton, Tyler Carlton, Brett Donar, Andrew Scarpace, Anthony Fennema, and Randy Eaton.

Donald L. Pace

Donald L. Pace, 75, of Raleigh passed away on June 10, 2014, after a courageous battle with leukemia.

Don grew up in Irvington, N.J., where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Meta Rose. He served four years in the Navy and then moved to Westfield and then Morristown, N.J., where he worked as a route salesman for Hostess and Drake Bakeries. Don retired in 1998 to Pawley’s Island, S.C., and moved to Raleigh seven years ago.

Don loved spending time at the beach, was an avid bike rider and enjoyed taking long walks with his dog. He especially valued his time with his children and nine grandchildren, who loved him dearly.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Meta; daughter Donna Banky (Blake); sons Anthony (Allison) and Stephen (Karen); and grandchildren Brandon, Jenna Rose, Danielle, Nolan, Nicholas, Michael, Anna Marie, Elizabeth and Lauren. He is also survived by his sister, Delores Klenke, and her husband, Don, and brothers-in-law Michael Rose (Gertrud) and Russell Rose (Maria); and many extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Mary Pace.

A funeral mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. on June 22, 2014,at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in East Hanover, N.J.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Don’s name to Transitions Life Care, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607 or to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Gilbert B. Tart  

Gilbert B. Tart, 75, of Raleigh passed away on Monday, June 16, 2014, at his residence with his loving family by his side. He was born in Vance County, the son of the late Jim and Bessie Tart.

Gilbert owned and operated Tart’s Jewelers with his son in Raleigh for 17 years where he was a Master Craftsman Jeweler. He loved to bass fish and rabbit hunt every time he could get away.

A funeral service honoring his life will be held 11 o’clock Thursday morning, June 18, 2014, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Terry Ashe officiating. Burial will follow in the Falls Community Cemetery.

Gilbert is survived by his wife, Shirley Strickland Tart; a daughter, Sarah Tart of Apex; a son, Nelson Tart and fiancée, Suzette Sumner, of Raleigh; and a sister, Julia Nienow of Cary.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Falls Baptist Church (General Fund) 9700 Fonville Rd. Wake Forest, NC 27587 or to the Falls Community Cemetery 9705 Fonville Rd. Wake Forest, NC 27587 or to a charity of one’s choice.
