Ronald Lee Vandegrift

Wake Forest

1935 ~ 2018

Ron Vandegrift, 82, of Wake Forest died on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at Select Specialty Hospital in Durham from complications from a medical procedure.

Ron was born in Long Beach, California, the son of the late Albert Leslie and Olivia Hahn Vandegrift, and he later grew up in Denver, Colorado.

After graduation from the University of Northern Colorado where he helped start Sigma Kai Fraternity in 1960, he began his career with Traveler’s Insurance in Hartford, Connecticut. He remained there until 1971 when he moved to Washington, D.C. for a career with the U.S. Postal Service. Ron retired as a federal employee in 1992.

Ron is survived by his wife, Mary; son, Ron Vandegrift Jr.(Lauree) of Gaithersburg, Maryland; daughter, Jane Vandegrift-Hay(Don) of Las Vegas, Neveda; step-daughters, Lori Kautonen(Asko) of Vihti Jarvi, Finland; and Melanie Rogers(Terrell) of Youngsville; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild (A great joy to him.); sisters, Leslie Vandegrift(Ray) of Denver, and Rita Mill(Tom) of Plains, Montana.

A celebration of Ron’s life was held Monday, June 18, 2018, at Richland Creek Community Church with Pastor Brian Merritt officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations are made to The American Red Cross or St. Jude Children’s hospital.

Catherine Frances Weston

Youngsville

Catherine Frances Weston, 95, died Friday, June 15, 2018, at her home. She was born in Winthrop, Massachusetts.

A funeral service was held Monday, June 18, 2018, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home.  Burial followed in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.

Ms. Weston is survived by her son, Kenneth Weston and daughter-in-law, Valerie Weston of Youngsville; five grandchildren, Kenneth and Stephanie Weston of Zebulon, Christina and Thomas Carter of Youngsville, Brian and Kimberly Weston of Franklinton, Catherine and Patrick Allen of Louisburg, and Hannah Weston of Youngsville; stepson, Charles “Chuck” Weston of Largo, Florida; a sister, Joanie Dumas of Winthrop, Massachusetts; four great-grandchildren, Kenley, Zander, Kayley and Justin; and several nieces and nephews.

Bobby Wilson

Youngsville

Bobby Wilson, 80, went to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, June 15, 2018, at Transitions Hospice in Raleigh. He was born July 2, 1937 to the late Robert Early Wilson and Lucy Dickerson Wilson. Bobby grew up in Granville County, farming tobacco with his family. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves from 1959 to 1965.

In 1960 he met the love of his life, Faye Riddle. They were married a few months later. Over the next 10 years Bobby and Faye were blessed with three daughters, one of whom the Lord called home in 1970.

Bobby was involved in sales and transportation most of his life, retiring in 2011 as a supervisor from Triangle Transit Authority (TTA).

Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Jean; grandson, Christopher Blackley; and two brothers, Lonnie and Bill Wilson.

Funeral services were held at Tuesday, June 19, 2018, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with the Rev. Bradley Johnson and Rev. Will Vergara co-officiating. Entombment followed in Pine Forest Memorial Garden.

He is survived by; his wife of 57 years, Faye Riddle Wilson; daughter, Deborah Blackley and husband, Scott,  Rhonda Lester and husband, David; grandchildren, Carey Snell, Andrew Blackley, Joseph Blackley, Allen Lester, Sarah McVeigh,; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Frank Wilson.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Unity Baptist Church, Youngsville.

In recent years, each night Mama told Daddy: “Good Night, Sleep Tight, God bless you and I love you”

Jerry Wayne Abbott

Youngsville

Jerry Wayne Abbott, 70, passed away Monday, June 18, 2018, at his residence. He was born in Vance County, the son of the late Ida Pearl Burnette Abbott and Clyde Rogers Abbott.
Jerry was a member of the Harris Chapel Baptist Church and a proud veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. He retired from Cooper Tools in Apex after 39 years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Hill; a brother, Billy Abbott; and a previous wife, Star Cardwell Abbott.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 21, 2018, in the Harris Chapel Baptist Church with Dr. Bill Haley officiating. Inurnment with military honors will follow in the family columbarium in the church cemetery.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Sarah Wall Abbott; a son, Jeff Abbott (Valerie) of Durham; daughters, Dawn Abbott Castro of Franklinton and Milli Edwards and her friend, Carlos, of Louisburg; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, two brothers, Jack Abbott (Janice) of Manson and Ronnie Abbott (Margaret) of Oak Island; special brother-in-law, Morris Hill of Youngsville; a sister-in-law, Teresa Abbott of Franklinton; and a special friend and buddy, his dog Jackson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Harris Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 2960 Tarboro Road, Youngsville, NC 27596.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church Fellowship Hall.
