Ellen Marie Schultz

Ellen Marie Schultz, 86, of Winston-Salem passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at Universal Healthcare/North Raleigh. She was born in Warren County, Penn,, the daughter of the late Elmer Cyril Smith and the late Fredericka Ziegler Smith. Ellen graduated from Academy High School in Erie, Penn. In 1962 she moved with her family to Winston-Salem where she spent most of her adult life. She was married to her husband, the late Harry D. Schultz, for 63 years. An active member of Parkway United Church of Christ, Mrs. Schultz was employed as a book buyer by Watkins Bookstore and later by Hinkle’s Office Supply Store.

Aside from her family, Ellen’s greatest love was singing. She sang in the Parkway UCC choir for more than 50 years, as well as in the choir at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church during the late 1970s and early 1980s. She performed in the Messiah and sang for weddings, at retirement homes and for the pure joy of it. In addition, she also was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards with her Pinochle Club.

Mrs. Schultz is survived by her children, Jeff Schultz and wife, Nancy, of Wake Forest, Mark Schultz and wife, Joan, of King, Laurie Schultz of Julian and Betsy Schultz Spetich and husband, Martin, of Hot Springs, Ark.; grandchildren, Elizabeth Sidell and husband, Matt, of Wilmington, Catherine Schultz of Nashville, Tenn., and Robert Schultz of King; seven sisters, Ruth Schmidt, Peggy Martin, Lorre Rapp, Remle Smith, Julie Celeski, Erma Rhodes and Kathy Koziol; and two brothers, John and Elmer Smith. She was also preceded in death by her son, Harry D. “Rusty” Schultz II, and by a sister, Milly Bretl.

A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, June 21, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Parkway United Church of Christ with the Reverend Craig Schaub officiating. There will be a reception in the fellowship hall following the service.

Liddie Allen ‘L.A.’ Arnold

Liddie Allen “L.A.” Arnold, 82, of Raleigh passed away on Tuesday morning, June 3, 2014. He was born in Pitt County, the son of the late Lizzie Wayne Arnold and John Allen Arnold,and was married to Barbara Tillson Arnold who preceded in death. L.A. was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served in the Korean Conflict.

A funeral service honoring his life was held at 11 o’clock Saturday morning, June 7, 2014, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold Woodlief officiating.

He is survived by his daughter, Catherine A. Case and husband, Ben, of Raleigh; a son, Casey Allen Arnold of Raleigh; and grandchildren, Mason Taylor Case, Sally Rebecca Case and Holden Marshall Case.

Elyse Renee Woodyear

Elyse Renee Woodyear, infant daughter of Sarah Sicotte Woodyear and Joe Woodyear, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at Wake Medical Center.

Funeral services were held at 1 o’clock Friday afternoon, June 6, 2014, at Faith Baptist Church in Youngsville with the Rev. Richard Mills officiating. Burial was in the Midway Cemetery in Meadville, Miss.

Elyse Renee is survived by her parents, Sarah and Joe Woodyear; brothers, J.T. Woodyear and William Woodyear; grandparents, Joe and JoMargaret Woodyear of Laurel, Miss., Peter Sicotte of D’Iberville, Miss., and Susie Sicotte of Purvis, Miss.; great-grandparents, Garveese and Ethel Dillon, Mrs. J.T. Woodyear of Meadville, Miss., Frances Moran of Gulfport, Miss., and Virginia Sicotte of Washington, DC.
