Bettie Grace Griffin Brown

Franklinton

Bettie Grace Griffin Brown passed away on Friday, April 13, 2018. She passed peacefully at home surrounded by her family. She was born in Nash County, the daughter of the late James Victor Griffin and Lois Dorsey Griffin and sister of James Willard Griffin.

A funeral service was held at 3 o’clock Wednesday afternoon, April 18, 2018, in the chapel of Bright Funeral home with Rev. David Averette officiating. The burial  followed at Pope’s Chapel United Church in Franklinton.

Bettie Grace retired from Franklinton High School in June 2013 after 30 years as the cafeteria supervisor.

Mrs. Brown is survived by her husband; Dennis Grey Brown of Franklinton; sons, James Brandon Brown and wife, Courtney, of Franklinton and Christopher Shawn Brown and , Jennifer, of Raleigh; grandchildren, Alexis Jade Brown, Cheyanne Moxley and David Moxley Jr. and Ava Mulgrew.  She is also survived by her nieces, Amy Stephens Currle of Lizard Lick and Suzanne Stephens Gilroy of Wendell.

James Garland Preddy

Franklinton

James Garland Preddy, 91, passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2018, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Granville County, the son of the late Clarice Roberts Preddy and Jim Preddy.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in World War II and the Korean War. He was a longtime member of the Franklinton American Legion Post, a former Franklinton City school board member, a former Franklinton zoning officer and a former member of the Franklin County ABC Board.

A graveside funeral service was held at 3 o’clock Wednesday afternoon, April 18, 2018, at the Fairview Cemetery in Franklinton.

Mr. Preddy is survived by his wife, Inez Chappell Preddy; his sons, Jimmy Preddy and wife, Yvonne, of Oxford and Tommy Preddy of Youngsville; his daughter, Kimberly Tucker and husband, Bruce, of Kittrell, grandchildren, Kevin Preddy, Lauren Moore, Shane Tucker, Emily Goodwin, Amy Addison, Noah Tucker and Solomon Tucker; a sister, Cynthia O’Daniel of Raleigh; brothers, Mack Preddy of Wake Forest and Jack Preddy of Wilmington; and eight great-grandchildren.

Marie Adele Kraft

Wake Forest

Marie Adele (Doebeli) Kraft, born on February 3, 1929 in Benton Harbor, Michigan, joined her dear husband, Frederick Kraft, in heaven on April 5, 2018 from her residence in Wake Forest.

She was a member of Wakefield United Methodist Church in Raleigh. Friends and Family are welcome to attend the celebration of her life, officiated by Rev. Hannah McMannis, on Sunday, April 29, at 3 p.m. at the Prayer Path on the church property, 14301 Falls of Neuse Road, Raleigh.

She is survived by her daughters, Gail A. (Timothy) Bender and Patricia L. (James) Bell, and grandchildren, Cameron Bender, Molly McIntyre, Jamie Opsommer and Lena-Marie Schaefer. She also leaves behind her beloved companion and dog, Fritzi.

Marie was primarily a homemaker, and she had wide variety of hobbies and talents. She enjoyed boating, sewing, knitting, collecting bears, reading and was a gifted creator of homemade Fabergé eggs. Also, during the prized years of their retirement in Venice, Florida, she held the title of “Mommodore” while her husband Fred was the commodore of the Venice Yacht Club.

Helen Wright Pridgen

Wendell

Helen Wright Pridgen, 93, passed away on Wednesday April 11, 2018, at Hillside Nursing Center. She was born in Roanoke Rapids, the daughter of the late Florence Snipes Wright and Kenneth Wright.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel I. Pridgen in 1970; a son, Kenny Pridgen and his wife, Faye; sisters, Louise Medlin and Mahaler Sizemore; and brother, Oscar Wright.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 14, 2018, in the chapel of Bright Funeral Home with Rev. Mason Bridges officiating.The burial followed in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.

Mrs. Pridgen is survived by her son, Sammie Pridgen and wife, Eleanor, of Rolesville; grandchildren, Robin Knott and husband, Newman, of Rolesville, Dana Frazier and husband, Fred, of Wake Forest, Scott Pridgen and wife, Angel, of Fayettville and Nikki Smith and husband, Scott, of Garner; great-grandchildren, Casey Knott, Savannah Bridges, Logan Knott, Caleb Knott, Ivery Frazier, Sam Frazier, Rebekah Suchodolski, Dane Frazier, Abby Frazier, Maggie Pridgen, Ellie Pridgen, Gavin Pridgen, Tucker Pridgen, Brandi Paxton, Brooke Paxton and Brendan Holahan; and a great-great-grandson, Caleb Suchodolski Jr.

Royal Winston Jones

Franklinton

Royal Winston Jones, 83, passed away on Tuesday April 10, 2018 at Durham Regional Hospital. He was born in Franklin County, the son of the late Pearl Wilder Jones and Howell Gray Jones. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Ruth Harris, Hazel Kearney and Rachel Fatherly.

Mr. Jones was a U.S. Army veteran, a 57-year member of the Franklinton American Legion Post, and a 45-year volunteer firefighter at MCFD.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, April 15, 2018, at Perry’s Chapel Baptist Church in Franklinton. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Jones is survived by his son, Andrew Jones and wife, Jessica, of Youngsville; a daughter, Jennifer Ward and husband, Tony, of Raleigh; grandchildren, Tristan and Ava June Jones; and a brother; Howell Lee Jones of Kittrell.

Flowers are accepted or memorial contributions can be made to the NC Wildlife Endowment Fund.

Marshall George Haley

Rolesville

Marshall George Haley, 84, of Rolesville passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2018. He was born December 11, 1933 in Wake County, a son of the late Marshall G. and Hattie (Mitchell) Haley.

Marshall was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired after 30 years of service at Bells Carpet. He attended the Rolesville Baptist Church. Marshall will be remembered as a giving person who lived to spend time with people, and loved his family. He enjoyed his retirement and his continued independence.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2018, at Rolesville Baptist Church Cemetery.

Marshall was predeceased by his son, Marty G. Haley, and the mother of his children, Barbara Price Haley.

He leaves behind his sons, Craig Marshall Haley, Michael G Haley and his wife, Mary, and Mitchell G Haley; grandchildren, Brittany Cantrell , Chelsea Haley, Matthew Haley, George Haley, and  Jeremy Haley; his uncle, Willard Haley; and many cousins.

Edward “Eddie” Venters Jr.

Wake Forest

Eddie Venters Jr. passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at Carillon of Wake Forest. He was born in Pitt County, the son of the late Ed Venters and Nello Mabe. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Venters.

Graveside services were held Friday morning, April 13, 2018, at Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.

He is survived by his daughter, Tammy V. McPhillips and husband, Frank, of Wake Forest, and granddaughter, Mary Katherine McPhillips.

Hallie Ray Frazier

Raleigh

Hallie Ray Frazier, 95, passed away on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at her residence. She was born in Franklin County, the daughter of the late Frankie Alford Ray and Bud Ray and was preceded in death by her husband, Maylon Jones Frazier.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 19, 2018, at Emmanuel Baptist Church at 2100 Noble Road in Raleigh. Burial will follow in the Harris Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery in Youngsville.

She is survived by her niece, Alice Elkins; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Laura Catanzaro, Jamie Elkins, Jeff  Dail, Teresa Dail, Mark Dail, Julie Dail Guenter, Wanda Calder and Rusty Frazier.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Emmanuel Baptist Church, 2100 Noble Road, Raleigh, NC 27607 or to the Louisburg College Baseball Team, 501 North Main Street, Louisburg, NC 27549.

Friends may visit with the family for an hour before the service at the church.

Euralee Harrison

Wake Forest

   Euralee Harrison, 91, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 17, 2018. He was born in Wake County, the son of the late Annie Bailey Harrison and Herman Harrison. He was preceded in death by a son, Rodney “Rock” Harrison, and his wife, Lois Holloway Harrison.

Mr. Harrison was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a retired butcher in the food service industry for over 50 years.

A funeral service will be held at 11 o’clock Friday morning, April 20, 2018, at the Stony Hill Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Harrison is survived by his son, Darrell Harrison and wife, Sandy, of Greenville; grandchildren, Lucas Harrison and wife, Allie, of Raleigh, Robert Harrison of Charlotte, Mary Caitlin Harrison of Raleigh and Brock Harrison of Wake Forest; sisters, Judy Dillard of Wake Forest, Phyllis Perrot and husband, Jimmy, of Raleigh; brothers, Vermon Harrison and wife, Beatrice, Lester Harrison and wife, Jean, Curtis Harrison and wife, Joan, all of Wake Forest; and daughter-in-law, Debra Harrison of Wake Forest.
