Donald Rositch

Raleigh

Donald Rositch, 87, of Raleigh passed away Wednesday morning, January 3, 2018, at The Gardens of Wakefield. He was born in Chicago, Illinois to the late John Joseph Rositch and Margaret Viola Johnson. Mr. Rositch was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was retired from the Maryland Department of Motor Vehicles as an inspector. He was a loving father, grandfather and friend. His presence will be greatly missed.

Don will be remembered for his love of dancing, cars and his country. He never met a stranger and had a kind word and smile for everyone he met.

A service will be held at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon, January 12, 2018, at Clancy Strickland Wheeler Funeral Home. Friends may visit with the family immediately following the service.

Mr. Rositch is survived by his children, Linda Banks and husband, Darryl, of Wake Forest, Donald Rositch and wife, Terri, of Sandston, Virginia and Andrew Rositch of Durham; grandchildren, Marissa Banks of Raleigh, Emily Banks of Wake Forest and Marianna Rositch of Raleigh. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Rositch, and a brother, Robert Rositch.

Patricia Ann Kent

Murrells Inlet, South Carolina

Patricia Ann Kent, 85, died peacefully at home in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina on January 2, 2018. She was born July 11, 1932 to Alfred and Marguerite F. Kent in Denver, Colorado.

While attending UNC-Chapel Hill she meets and marries Hoytt P. Griggs in 1954 who predeceased her in 1969. They are survived by their six children, Tom and Linda Horstman, Steve Griggs and Maggie Beddall, Andrew and Cindy Griggs, Neil Griggs, Camille and Rich Headrick, Julia and Roger (deceased) Gower; 14 grandchildren and spouses[ and 20 great-grandchildren. Later in life, she married Claude Williams (deceased). She was a parishioner at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Murrells Inlet.

Patricia was a teacher for 40 years retiring in both Virginia and North Carolina. She had a masters degree in special education from the University of Virginia and spent the last 15 years of her career teaching special needs children. In her retirement, she started a small business, Tiny Tot Cakes, where she put her creative talents to use creating unique baby shower gifts. Her interests included crossword puzzles, sewing, crafts and painting.

Patricia (Nana) had a huge heart, always looking out for her family and helping where she could, thus improving the lives of many including family members, students, neighbors and animals.  She always insisted that the family do things together from spending Christmas holidays at her home, to a vacation week at the beach, to attending graduations, weddings and baby showers. She loved decorating and celebrating the holidays to include Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. Nana loved her family.

A time of gathering was held at Pine Forest Memorial Garden’s Chapel in Wake Forest on Sunday, January 7, 2018.

Margaret ‘Meg’ Wiegert Jackson

Youngsville

A very special Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Friend, Margaret (Meg) Wiegert Jackson, 57, of Youngsville left our presence to enter into heaven on Saturday, December 30, 2017, at Wake Med Hospital.  She was the daughter of Jacques and Elinora Wiegert of Mount Kisco, New York, and was born on May 29, 1960.

Meg was a true Bear Artist and Collector who loved making Pinney Bears have their own personality. She was a self-taught artist in the art of bear making who gradually perfected her skills. Her company name, Pinney Bears, is a tribute to her grandparents and from a teddy bear she had as a child that was lost. Meg was also a true animal lover who supported many animal groups and adored her kitties, especially “Puddin.”  Meg was also a graduate of Emma Willard School for Girls in Troy, New York and Duchess Community College, Poughkeepsie, New York.

Meg is preceded in death by her parents, Jacques and Elinora Wiegert; her brother, James Wiegert; and her Aunt Lilley.

She is survived by her husband, William; son, Dan of Wake Forest; stepson, William of Salem, Oregon; stepdaughter, Tamee and Tony Taylor of Baltimore, Maryland; granddaughter, Lilly Jackson; step-grandchildren, Sean and Kara Taylor, Alex and Kyle Jackson, Brian and Lauren Taylor of Frisco, Texas; step-great-grandchildren, Judah and Selah Taylor; and many other family members and friends.

A remembrance service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 27, 2018, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Magee officiating.

Fred William Hilker

Wake Forest

Fred William Hilker, 81, died Friday, January 5, 2018. Fred was born December 9, 1936 in Carnegie, Pennsylvania, to the late Edward and Helen Shaw Hilker. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Fred owned and operated The Y Beer Distributor in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania and retired after managing grocery stores for over 12 years. He was a communicant of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Wake Forest.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

Fred’s memorial mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 27, 2018, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. Msgr. David Brockman will officiate.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Elaine Beltrame Hilker of Wake Forest; five sons, Glenn and Therese Hilker of Wake Forest, Gregg Hilker and Brian Reece of Durham, Jeffery, Brian and Maureen, Mark and Sandra Hilker all of Pennsylvania; eleven grandchildren, Michelle and Jason, Matthew, Joshua, Jessica, Christopher, Meghan, Marissa, Brendon, Cody, Maija, Kaylee; a great-granddaughter, Sophia; two sisters, Joan Moore and Virginia Katruska, both of Pennsylvania.

Frederick Wayne Pulley

Youngsville

Our beloved Wayne passed away suddenly at his home in Youngsville on Saturday, December 23. Born in Vance County, he was the son of the late Malcolm E. and Eunice B. Pulley.

Wayne was an active member of Wake Forest Baptist Church and loved his church family. Most of his working career he was a successful sales representative in the commercial printing industry and most recently worked part-time at Target. He also served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Wayne brought smiles, laughter and lots of energy everywhere he went. He will be missed greatly by everyone who knew him.

Surviving are his wife, Lynn W. Pulley; brother, Marty G. Pulley (Rhonda); sisters, Linda P. Pulley and Debbie P. Edwards (Waylon); step-sons, Brian and Stephen Dinwiddie; step-grandchildren, Josh Dinwiddie, Heather Keene (Thomas) and Trafton Dinwiddie; three special aunts, Betty Hight (Joe), Edith Fisher (Gene) and Arlene Edwards (Tommy); and many nieces, nephews and cousins, all whom he loved dearly.

A celebration of life service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, January 21, 2018, at Wake Forest Baptist Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.

Nancy Pettigrew Gaino

Raleigh

On the first day and the first full moon of the Year of Our Lord 2018, Nancy Pettigrew Gaino, beloved and loving sister, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away unexpectedly and way too soon at her Raleigh home at the age of 72. The Wake Forest native and long-time Raleigh resident was born on May 25, 1945 to Edna Baum and Walter James Pettigrew.

Nancy graduated from Wake Forest High School in 1963. She has a successful career and worked for Asheville Industries as well as the Bank of Asheville. She spent most of her career at and retired from Genworth Financial in Raleigh.

In 1967, Nancy married James Baynard Gaino and was the devoted mother of their two sons, Jim and Nick.

She is survived by her two sons (both in Easley, SC), James Baynard Gaino Jr. and his wife, Kathy, and Nicholas Brownlee Gaino and his wife, Shawn, and their daughter (and Nancy’s only grandchild and the light of her life), Olivia Brooke Gaino. She is also survived by her two sisters, Anne Pettigrew Baker and Jane Pettigrew Brownlee Pharr (Allen)  as well as a multitude of nephews, nieces, family and friends.

A true southern lady with a vivacious personality, Nancy was an engaging conversationalist and never met a stranger. She loved all animals but had a particular affinity for felines, her longtime pet Oliver (who preceded her in death) and the newer Lou Lou as well as the many feral cats she dedicated the time and resources to feed.

Nancy was strong in spirit and in her beliefs. She loved the Lord and the Word of God. She was a true peacemaker in her family and a generous friend who was known for her sweet thoughtfulness and random acts of kindness as well as her quick laugh and even quicker wit.

To know Nancy was to love her.  She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 7, 2018, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home.  Nancy’s nephew, the Reverend Dr. Robert MacSwain officiated.

Catharine McKellar

Raleigh

Catharine McKellar, 90, of Raleigh passed away January 3, 2018 in Raleigh. She was born September 9, 1927 in Robeson County, a daughter of the late Page and Elizabeth Mann.

Catharine is survived by her husband of 70 years, Julian McKellar; children, Page McKellar, Sarah McKellar, Judy McKellar-Whisenant, Janice McKellar, and Lois McKellar-Locke; seven grandchildren, Chris and Rick Warner, Alex McKellar, J. Catharine Willoughby, Delphia Gloss, Kayti Quesada, and Rea Locke; and three great-grandchildren, Willow Warner, James McGilvary and Ashlynn Willoughby.

Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Sunday, January 7, 2018, at Old Mount Vernon Baptist Church. Interment followed at Raleigh Memorial Park.

Corella Mae Romada

Wake Forest

Corella Mae Romada, 79, died on Saturday evening, January 6, 2018, at Hillside Nursing Center. She was born in Belmont County, Ohio, the daughter of the late Cilda Belle Belles and Homer Belles.

Mrs. Romada was a retired sales clerk with J.C. Penny. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

A funeral service will be held at 11 o’clock Thursday morning, January 11, 2018, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Romada is survived by her husband of 57 years whom she married on Thanksgiving Day in 1960, Michael Romada; a son, Keith Romada and wife, Patti, of Wake Forest; a daughter, Kellie Romada of Raleigh; grandchildren, Kyle and Derek Romada of Wake Forest; and a brother, Jake Belles and wife, Billie, of Bridgeport, Ohio.

Patricia Ann Macchi

Patricia Ann Macchi, age 77, passed away at her home in Raleigh surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, January 4, 2018. She was born on August 24, 1940 in New York to James and Dorothy (Robison) Corris.

She was married to Richard Macchi on September 30th, 1962. Together they had two sons and a daughter. Pat truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures, spending time with family, shopping, reading, and listening to music. She was loving, caring and devoted to all those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Left to honor Pat and remember her love are Pat’s three children, Rich (Lauren), Bill (Tere), Christine (Deb); four grandchildren, Alexandra Macchi, Austin Macchi, Madison Macchi, Logan Macchi; and nieces and nephews. Pat is survived by her husband, Richard, and her brother, Robert (Brenda). Memorial services will be held at a future date.

Carolyn L. Woodruff

Carolyn L. Woodruff, 72, died Sunday, January 7, 2018. She was born October 23, 1945 to the late Hubert Loyd Sr. and Macie Pleasant Loyd. Carolyn was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Louisburg and worked in the textile industry for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Hubert Loyd Jr, Clifford Loyd, Edward Loyd and Wallace Loyd, and a brother-in-law, Jasper Privette..

Funeral services were heldWednesday, January 10, 2018, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home. Burial followed in Pine Forest Memorial Garden.

Surviving are two sisters, Helen Parrish and husband, Paul, and Edna Privette; a brother, Julian Loyd; and sisters-in-law, Altene Loyd, Minnie Loyd, Laverne Loyd and Connie Loyd.

Terry Eugene Nine

Wake Forest

Terry Eugene Nine, 70, of Wake Forest passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2018’ at WakeMed Hospital. He was born at Rex Hospital in Wake County and was the son of the late Alice Hartman Nine and Theodore Edward Nine Jr. Mr. Nine was a wrecker driver and mechanic who enjoyed fishing, country music and spending time with friends and family.

Funeral services were held Thursday, January 4, 2018, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with his nephew, Timothy Nine, officiating. Burial followed in Carolina Memorial Gardens in Creedmoor.

Mr. Nine was preceded in death by his aunt, Frances Nine. He is survived by his wife, Rachel Nine; brothers, T.E. Nine and Timothy Nine; sister; Mary Alice Clark; children, Angela Long (Eddie) and Tracy Nine (Cathy); grandchildren; Nancy Meade (Michael), Kaycee Hall and Vicky Cabaleiro; five great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his copilot canine companion, Cookie.
