David Lee Pearce

Raleigh

David Lee Pearce passed away in his home in Raleigh on Wednesday, October 25, 2017, after a long illness. He leaves behind his wife of 41 years, Dr. Patricia Pearce, his daughter, Dr. Amanda Roper, her husband, William Roper, and their two daughters, Madeline and Daisy.

He was born on December 3, 1936 to Luby Lee and Thelma Pearce and raised in Princeton, West Virginia. He attended Concord University outside of Princeton for his bachelor’s degree in math and University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia, for his master’s in education. He began working for IBM soon after, meeting his wife in Lexington, Kentucky, where their daughter was born.

His first career was teaching mathematics in the public schools, from which he was recruited for IBM as a systems engineer and teacher. On his retirement from IBM he became an active advocate for women’s basketball with his daughter’s high school and club teams. He relished every opportunity to vacation by the sea or go sailing in the Caribbean. He enjoyed his lifelong passion of reading up until his final days.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2017, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home. Friends may visit with the family immediately following the service.

Brooks Wright Johnson

Youngsville

Brooks Wright Johnson, 81, loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend who will be missed. “A true man of his word” passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2017, at Duke Raleigh Hospital. He was born in Franklin County, the son of the late Daniel and Madge Yarborough Johnson. He was preceded in death by a brother, Danny Johnson.

A funeral service will be held at 11 o’clock Wednesday morning, November 22, 2017, in the Harris Chapel Baptist Church with Dr. Bill Haley and the Rev. Brian Kohout officiating.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Alice Murphy Johnson; daughters, Ellen Jackson and husband, Doug, of Grifton, Jennifer Watson and husband, Michael, of Apex; grandchildren, Emmy and Harrison Watson; and sisters, Myrna Raybon of Knightdale and Sue Floyd and husband, Charles, of Louisburg,.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Harris Chapel Baptist Church General Fund 2960 Tarboro Road Youngsville, NC 27596.

Friends may visit with the family immediately follow the service in the church fellowship building.

Laurence ‘Larry’ Alan Therrien

Wake Forest

Laurence “Larry” Alan Therrien, 67, of Wake Forest unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2017. He was born December 24, 1949 in Burlington, Vermont, the son of the late Clara Dewey Therrien and Clarence Therrien.  He was predeceased by his sister Margaret. He was a member of Saint Catherine of Siena’s Catholic Church in Wake Forest and Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Colchester, Vermont, and was a retired employee with the Vermont Department of Liquor Control.

Larry is survived by his wife of 32 years, Paula; daughter, Casey and her long-term boyfriend, Matt; son, Keith and wife, Sally; grandchildren, Rebecca and James. Larry is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Kevin and Paul, and sister-in-law, Michele, along with their spouses; as well as nieces and nephews, Shawn, Jenn, Brian, Amy, Nick, Eric, Jordan, Danielle, Allyssa, Shane, Haylee, Kaleb, Erica, Lily, Cohen, and Caden; cousins, including his close cousins, Mary Gail, Joanne, Doug, Rita and Ken; aunts and uncles; and many friends, including his best friend, Andy.

Vickie Hedrick Patterson

Youngsville

Vickie Hedrick Patterson, 62, of Youngsville passed away at 7:26 a.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2017. Vickie was born to Gerard Taylor and Peggy Hedrick in Zebulon on June 8, 1955. Vickie attended Enloe High School in Raleigh and had a prospering career at Highlands Insurance Company as an insurance adjuster. Before her passing she was able to enjoy the simplicities of retirement and her greatest love and passion, her six grandchildren.

A graveside service was held at Bunn City Cemetery, Bunn. Let us come together to embrace Vickie and remember her life as a giving, loving woman and doing what she did best, taking care of the ones she dearly loved.

She is survived by her mother, Peggy Hedrick of Youngsville; her brother, WG Hedrick (Amy) of Knightdale; her daughter, Deanna Marshall (David) of Bunn; her son, Shawn Auteri (Kelly) of Raleigh; and her six grandchildren, Dalton, Dylan, Sebastian, Layla, Gracie, and Delana.

S.L. ‘Pete’ Colbert

Franklinton

S.L. “Pete” Colbert passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on Wednesday, November 15, 2017. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 69 years, Lucy Leonard Colbert; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Jesse Preddy of Franklinton; son and daughter-in-law, Kenny and Sue Colbert of Huntersville; grandchildren, Aaron Wright and wife, Lisa, of Wake Forest, Caroline Wright Carroll and husband, Kevin, of Lexington, Virginia, and Pete Colbert of Raleigh; and great-grandchildren, Peyton, Cole, and Lyndon Wright and Luke and Levi Carroll. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Kenan Colbert Koll, of Charleston, South Carolina, his parents, and his brothers, Furman and Dalton Colbert.

A memorial service will be held in Franklinton Baptist Church at 3 p.m. Sunday, November 19. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.
