Robert W. ‘Bob’ Bridges Sr.

Robert Wayne “Bob” Bridges Sr., 71, of Wake Forest passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at Rex Hospital. He was born in Wake County to the late William Elmo Bridges and Lena Catherine Grice Bridges.

Mr. Bridges was a graduate of Wake Forest High School and was a veteran of the United States Army. He was retired as Head of Dockets & Files from the North Carolina Industrial Commission and was also a retired Auxiliary Chief with the Wake Forest Police Department.

He was a lifelong resident of Wake Forest who loved people and always tried to make a difference in his community. Mr. Bridges was a member of Wake Forest Lodge # 282 A.F. & A.M., Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Wake Forest Fire Department and a very active member with Youngsville Baptist Church. He and his wife also raised German Shepherds for many years.

Mr. Bridges is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sarah Glover Bridges; sons, Robert W. “Rob” Bridges Jr. of Wake Forest and William Garth Bridges and wife, Christina, of Wake Forest; grandchildren, Mary Catherine Bridges and Caroline H. Bridges, both of Wake Forest, Kattie B. Dooris and husband, Joel, of Raleigh, Amanda L. Bridges and Brandy L. Bridges, both of Wake Forest; great-grandson, Bradley Dooris; brothers, W. Ralph Bridges and wife, Marjorie, of Creedmoor, Steve G. Bridges and wife, Faye, of Creedmoor and J. Ted Bridges and fiancé, Betty, of Wake Forest; many nieces, nephews and extended family.

A celebration of Mr. Bridges’ life was held at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon, May 25, 2014, at Youngsville Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Stratton officiating.

Ronnie Fay Queen

Ronnie Fay Queen, 65, of Zebulon passed away Saturday, May 24, 2014, peacefully at home.

Funeral services will be held at 1 o’clock Saturday afternoon, May 31, 2014, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home in Wake Forest. Burial will follow in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.

Ronnie is survived by his wife,  Judy Queen and their daughter, Ashley Queen, of the home; his former wife, Ellen Queen, of Louisburg, and children, Donna Ruff (Brad) of Howell, Mich., Tonya Younger (Dean Bryant) of Bunn, and Christopher Queen (Josephine) of Zebulon;  11 grandchildren, Michael Gokee, Nicki Mullen, Duncan Younger, Dana Ruff, Darcey Ruff, Delaney Ruff, Channing Queen, Christian Queen, Kyndall Bryant, Adreki Wilkins, and Raistlin Queen; nieces, Judith and Chelsey Cumpston; his sister Clara King (Kerry) of Gaffney, S.C.; and many additional nieces and nephews.

Mildred ‘Millie’ Carter

Mildred “Millie” Bowden Carter, 69, of Youngsville died peacefully Friday, May 23, 2014, at the William Dunlap Center for Caring. She was born in Edgecombe County, the daughter of the late Olive Truckner Bowden and Marvin Wesley Bowden, and was preceded in death by her husband, Gary Carter.

Millie was a beautiful spirit with a constant smile who loved the farm, frogs, turtles, squirrels, and nature. She loved dancing to all kinds of music and was easy to love and be loved by anyone that was honored to be in her presence. Her loyal, fuzzy nurses and kids were Socks, Mitttens, Little Nana, and Spot.

A graveside funeral service was held at 11 o’clock Monday morning, May 26, 2014, at Harris Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Pam Gilliam officiating.

Millie is survived by her daughter, Dawn Phillips and husband, Jake Phillips Jr., of Youngsville; a sister, Nancy Edwards of Centerville; grand-dog, Sadie Mae; and grand-cats, Jimmy, Prancy, Knot, Kilowatt, and Chip.

Raymond Erick Harp Jr.

Raymond Erick Harp Jr., 73, of Wake Forest died Thursday, May 22, 2014, at the William Dunlap Center for Caring. He was born in Wake County, the son of the late Lessie Davis Harp and Raymond Erick Harp Sr., and was preceded in death by his brothers, James Harp and Charles Harp.

Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon, May 25, 2014, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with the Rev. Rodney Harp officiating. Burial was in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Harp is survived by his wife, Josephine Morgan Harp; a son, Raymond E. Harp III and wife, Mandy, of Wake Forest; a daughter, Lisa Harp of Wake Forest; a sister, Betty Holden of Wake Forest; grandsons, Jason and Benjamin Harp; niece and nephews, Jimmy Harp, Charles Ervin Harp, Terri Holden Hart, Wayne Harp and David Harp, all of Wake Forest; and several great nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Benjamin Harp, Billy Harp, Erick Harp, Wayne Harp, David Harp, and Ervin Harp.

David Gary Looper

David Gary Looper, 70, of Raleigh passed away Sunday, May 25, 2014, at the Select Specialty Hospital in Durham. He was born in Greenville, S.C., the son of the late Roy Augustus Looper and Willie Edna Snyder Looper. He was a graduate of Millbrook High School and a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Looper retired after 41 years as an Export Supervisor for Cooper Tools and was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church.

A memorial service will be held at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon, June 4, 2014, at Trinity Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Jeff Roberts officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 1 to 2 p.m., one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Looper is survived by his wife of 48 years, Annette Woodall Looper; sisters, Betty Looper Barham and husband, Haywood, of Wake Forest and Jenny Looper Bruce of Greenville, S.C.; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Roy “Pete” Looper, Wallace E. Looper and Joe Looper; and sisters, Faye Looper O’Neal and Carolyn Looper Bailey. He will also be missed by the family dachshund, Max, and a special cat named Coby.

Dorothy (Dot) Hall Hinton

Dorothy (Dot) Hall Hinton of Wake Forest went to be with her Lord when she lost her battle to breast cancer after a fight of over 14 years on May 26, 2014.

Dot was born in Abington, Penn., to Bernice & Raymond Parker on April 1, 1943. She was predeceased by her parents and one sister, Carol.

She is survived her husband, Al, of the home and by two sons, Gerald (Jay) and wife, Jenna, of Lake Royale, and Allen and wife, Shera, of Cocoa, Fla.; three older sisters, Charlotte of Forest Lake, Minn., Gail of Kalamazoo, Mi., and Maxine of Wellington, Fla.; two younger brothers, Winslow and wife, Sandy, of Lake Worth, Fla., and Raymond and wife, Leslie, of Napa Valley, Calif.

Dot’s greatest pleasure in life was her family, her home and yard and her church. She initiated and  performed the Children’s Story Hour at the Wake Forest Public Library for 10 years and remembered each of the children when, after retirement, as they would approach her and say, “You are Miss Dot from the library.” She was always a kind and gentle person to all animals and humans. She could not pass either without making sure they were fed and safe.

A service of remembrance will be held at 11 o’clock Thursday morning, May 28, 2014, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 830 Durham Road, Wake Forest, followed by internment in the columbarium. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall.
