  1. James ‘Jim’ Johnson Jr.

Wake Forest

Macon J. Johnson, Jr. passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2017, of natural causes. Known to his many friends and family as Jim and to his lovely mother as Jimmy, Jim was born in South Mills on April 15, 1936. Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Burnham Johnson; his father, Macon J. Johnson Sr.; and his three best friends, his loving dogs Smokey 1, Smokey 2, and Susie.

Jim served in the 45th Air Force, worked as a North Carolina Highway Patrolman, an investigator with the North Carolina Department of Insurance, and a club golf pro in Wake Forest. Jim was the club pro at Paschal Golf Course for several years and at Horsecreek Country Club (later known as Wake Forest Country Club). Jim also ran his father’s oil business in South Mills for a long period of time. A diehard New York Yankees fan and a UNC Tarheel fan for life, Jim cheered hard for his beloved Yankees and Tarheels in good times and not so good times.

Jim is survived by his three children, five grandchildren, and two ex-wives and a brother. They are his oldest child, Tammy J. Bryan and her husband, Jim Bryan; his son, Bradly J. Johnson and his wife, Eva S. Johnson; and his youngest daughter, Doris Vann Johnson; the mother of his children, Merritta W. Johnson; his ex-wife and closest friend in his later years, Anita Beck; grandchildren, Travis Johnson, Kallie J. Wulfkuhle (Nick), Jordan J. Bryan, Meghan Bryan Lucas and Morgan B. Johnson (Zack); and his closest friend in life, Bill Mangum of Raleigh, a brother from another mother; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 3:30 Thursday afternoon, August 24, 2017, at Bright Funeral Home. Friends may visit with the family from 2 to 3:30 prior to the service at the funeral home.

Winifred McDonald

Raleigh

Winifred McDonald, 92, passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2017. She was born in Crocker, Missouri to the late Mildred Logue Johnson and Charles Johnson and was preceded in death by a son, Gary McDonald.

A funeral service will be held at 11 o’clock Friday morning, August 25, 2017, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home.

Ms. McDonald is survived by her daughter, Kathy McDaniels and husband, Richard; grandchildren, Michael McDonald, Christina Richardson and husband, Kevin, Sarah Davies and husband, Chris, Nicole Maxwell and husband, Carl; eleven great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Rose McDonald.

Mary Alice Miller

Wake Forest

Mary Alice Miller went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 22, 2017. She was born on August 2, 1943 in Durham County, the daughter of the late Oscar and Ruby Rigsbee Williams.

A funeral service will be held at 1 o’clock Friday afternoon, August 25, 2017, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with Rev. David Meyers and Rev. Mike Wells officiating. Burial will follow in the Wake Forest Cemetery.

Mary Alice is survived by her husband, Charles Miller; daughter, Teresa Smith and husband, Allen; sons, Rodney Caudle and wife Ann, Darrell Caudle and wife Sissy; grandchildren, Grayson Caudle, Ashlyn Caudle and Tori Smith, Heather Upchurch and Cameron Upchurch; great-grandchildren, Aiden Caudle, Tyler Harrison, Hudson Harrison and Christian Murray, and  sisters, Margie Jordan  and Lucy Pennington. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruby Williams; two granddaughters, Shaye Smith and Lydia Grace Caudle; and a brother, Donald Williams.

Marjorie Marie Wynne

Wake Forest

Marjorie Marie “Mema” Wynne, née Jackson, 91, died Friday, August 18, 2017, at her childhood home near Wake Forest. She was born June 24, 1926 to John Vance Jackson Sr. and Macie Ray Jackson.

During WWII she worked as a telegrapher for Seaboard Railroad and for the War Department in the Pentagon. Later, she worked at First Citizens’ Bank for over twenty years.  An avid traveler, she loved trips to Hawaii, visited Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and France and took a cross-country road trip. During her nine-year battle with dementia, she retained her sweet, loving nature.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, John Vance Jr. and Charles Jackson.

Surviving are her husband of 71 years, Alfred E. Wynne; daughters, Donna and Phyllis; son-in-law, Jim, and granddaughter, Allison.

The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, August 24, 2017, at Bright Funeral Home  followed by interment at Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.

Linda Frances Ellis

Youngsville

Linda F. Ellis, 51, died Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born December 10, 1965 to Hick and Elizabeth Davis Allen. She worked as a caregiver.

Surviving are her husband, Eric Ellis; her children, Joseph Freeman and Christina Goss; her granddaughter, Haylie Goss; and two brothers, Edward Allen and Steve Allen.

A memorial service celebrating Linda’s life was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 19, 2017, at Linda and Eric’s home, 113 Ridgewood Road, Youngsville.

William Arthur Nelson

Youngsville

William Arthur Nelson, 71, died Monday, August 12, 2017, at Transitions Hospice Care, Raleigh. He was born on April 20, 1946 in St. Paul, Minnesota to the late Robert and Dorothy Hagen.

Bill moved to San Diego at 10 years old after his father died in the Korean War while serving the U.S. Army in Northern France. Bill honored his father’s service by enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1964, serving 6 years during the Vietnam War.

Bill and his wife, Aline moved to Youngsville in June 2016 to enjoy their retirement in the wooded country town. Bill enjoyed fishing, camping, nature and carpentry. He was a manager in the home security business for many years.

A prayer service was held Friday, August 18, 2017, at Bright Funeral Home in Wake Forest at 11 a.m. followed by a time of visitation. Bill will be interred in the Eastern Carolina Veteran’s Cemetery in Goldsboro on September 15, 2017 at 2 p.m. surrounded by family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Aline Ollivier Nelson; his family,  Mary Lou and Al Starr of Deep, Connecticutt, Chuck and Sandi Ollivier of Rolesville, Larry and Kathie Ollivier of San Juan Capistrano, California, Jeanette Ollivier of  San Diego, California, and Peter and Patti Ollivier of Spring Hill, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

Logan Cole McDonald

Wake Forest

Logan Cole McDonald, 12, died suddenly Tuesday, August 15, 2017. Logan was born February 23, 2005 in Joplin, Missouri. He loved animals, his brothers, playing football and the beach. Logan was in the seventh grade at Rolesville Middle School.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Oakley McDonald; maternal grandfather, Robert Johnston; as well as his aunt, Kathy DiStrola.

Funeral services were held 4 p.m. Sunday, August 20, 2017, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home. Rev. Harold Woodlief officiated.

Surviving are his parents, Michael McDonald and Shannon Johnston McDonald; three brothers, Caleb LaMaster of Missouri, Alex Sertick of Japan and Jacob McDonald of Missouri; his paternal grandmother, Judith Booth of Clayton; maternal grandmother, Carole Handley of Athens, Pennsylvania; three aunts, Dena Johnston of Bradford, Pennsylvania, Rachel Duchon of Hamburg, New York and Lindsey Johnston of Port Allegheny, Pennsylvania.

Grange Bickett Aycock Jr.

Wake Forest

Bickett Aycock, 68, passed away on Monday, August 14, 2017, at his residence. He was born in Wake County, the son of the late Addie Sanderford Aycock and Grange Bickett Aycock Sr.

He was a graduate of Sanderson High School and was a CPA for many years.

A memorial service was held at 11 o’clock Thursday morning at the Wake Forest Cemetery with the Rev. Brian Merritt officiating.

Bickett is survived by his wife, Wanda Eury Aycock; daughters, Trudy Robertson, Heather Martin and Katrine Brooks; a son, Jimmy Whittington; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
